Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 07/10/2022

Time got away from me this week and I didn't get a chance to post. Wednesday I did a 60 minute Peloton ride, yesterday I did a 30 minute run before work and today I did Live Muscle Max-No Step.

Cathy-yes, we got quite a lot of rain on Tuesday. The weather seems to change quickly. The last forecast I had seen showed it clear and sunny tomorrow and now I'm seeing a good chance of storms all weekend.
Nice job with Cardio Band Blast with Weights!

Carolyn-Great job with JS One Mile of Motivation, Jane Adams Leg Strength and Power Splits Lower Body finishers. That sounds like a nice combination.

Diane Sue-Nice job with CDorner Step and Strength and all standing arms.

Valerie-Great job with Stacked Sets Upper Body and XTrain core and the long bike ride this morning. I agree about not waiting for a special day or vacation to get out and ride. I think we'll be able to get out this weekend.

Today I slept till 10 o'clock!! My dog thought I was up for the day at 7, but I sat in the recliner and went back to sleep. I was up late because I went outside to water plants and pull grass out of planters till it was dark and then cleaned till 1:30 this morning. I had more energy today for my workout too. I did CDorner Toxic Brittany Spears Dance Workout which went well and I would have the moves down till she messed up and restarted several times. This was 57 minutes, 269 calories, heart rate 124/159, 3,931 steps. I then did her Crazy Fun Cardio Dance, kickboxing, stretch, stopping after the first set of jacks and hooks and moved to the cooldown stretching. This was 33 minutes, 157 calories, heart rate 124/180, 1,718 steps. This was about 15 minutes of cardio and 13 minutes of cooldown and stretching. Total time was 90 minutes, 426 calories, 5,649 steps.
They are dumping dirt and pouring concrete behind our back fence now. It sure manages to sift into the house. I cleaned last night after working in the yard till dark. It is so unusually hot and dry. I see we have 109 forecasts for Tuesday. I remember some weather like this many years ago and it lasted so long that when it finally decided to rain people in the apartments, we were living in were all wandering outside into the rain.

Valerie, I hardly ever want to eat strawberries anymore. When I get them from the grocery store there are partially green ones and they just do not have much flavor. I guess that is the way with a lot of fruit and berries. It is hard to get good peaches or even watermelon. I am sure they pick them green and ship them and they never have a chance to ripen on the vine or trees. I have purchased 3 watermelons so far and neither of us really wanted to eat them. Peaches are hard as a rock in the grocery store. When I can I get Driscoll's sweetest batch blueberries and blackberries from Whole Foods. They are really good but are not always available. They are expensive, but well worth it as others I tend to pick at.
It is not fun having to mess with our equipment when we are doing something. Hope you get the bike issues fixed. Nice that you got in a strength workout today as well as a short ride. I bet getting out early was real nice and pretty quiet.

Carolyn, it seems that you are doing better and finding some ways to get in workouts without hurting yourself. CDorner has some no equipment arms a legs which is nice. Although she can sure manage to get a burn out of it. You are doing good at finding things that you can do. I am learning what causes me neck pain and eliminating those moves. Crunches and anything like that and pull overs definitely set off neck pain.

Cathy, I never spread the band on the floor and work around it. I end up tripping over it or knocking it out of position. I just pretend there is a band there. You walks at the zoo are probably plenty of exercise.

Judy, nice work on the Peloton ride and Live Muscle Max no step workout. We could sure use some rain here.

No workout Thursday as I shopped and then yesterday was the zoo. Got 12,000 steps and 23 zone minutes out of it. Today was IMAX 3. My sleep has been really screwed up lately and I felt it as soon as I got to the first blast. I decided to try and get through the first 5 blasts, and then go to just combos, but by modifying a few and just completely doing different blast moves for a couple, I managed to get through the whole workout. Was a gasping for air, sweaty mess, but I did it. LOL

Diane Sue, our strawberries and watermelon has been hit and miss this year, though fortunately the watermelon has just been not terribly flavorful and not horrid, because I don't have Nick here to eat what doesn't meet my watermelon standards. Raspberries have been really good lately. I've started making jar salads. Three or four at a time. I'm terrible about not wanting to take the time to make them in the moment, so being able to just dump them in a bowl is a huge plus. Using 24 oz jars and that makes a nice side salad to go with soup.

Valerie sorry to hear about your husband's bike tire issue. So frustrating. Glad you were able to get in a good ride yesterday.

Judy the weather has seemed very changeable lately. One minute we aren't supposed to get rain and the next it's raining! Looks like more rain tomorrow.

Carolyn you've been getting in some nice workout combos. I've never been able to make up my mind about that chair stretch from Step Boss. I feel like I get a good stretch, but it just doesn't appeal to me, so I don't do it nearly as often as the lying stretch.

Bikes have more complicated components. the brakes are nicer than old friction brakes, but they have brake fluid and a piston. if the piston gets stuck, the brake is "on" all the time. it was a 2 second fix with the right tool. bike shop didn't charge for it. we bought 10 -12 bikes from the same shop over years so we usually get good service. we bought bikes, and traded them in several times. this shop refurbishes and sells used bikes too. I like to see recycling. his bike is fine now.

I sold a backpack yesterday. I had a long time. We don't do long backpacks anymore. this was a custom made pack I used for years. in very good condition. we are selling DH's old one too. we have new smaller ones we can use the few times we backpack anymore. we used to do that for vacations every summer. these are really well made packs with loads of features but for an overnight trip, they are overkill. glad it went to a new home. pack is big, carries a lot. backpacking/hiking has changed with gear. smaller, lighter, more compact. still, for a week trip you need more food and comfort items.

we have a cooler cloudy day today so we can get going on the deck cleaning project. I can plant some replacement plants. deer ate my autumn joy sedum again( annual event) so I'm dumping it and trying a different plant.
watermelon is always a guess. I make a watermelon salad with marginal ones that uses cucumbers and rice vinegar. its a surprisingly good combo. I will post if anyone wants to try it. I ate most of the strawberries. seems like we go with the same old apples/oranges/bananas, and the suddenly there is all this lovely fruit and it's too much to eat it all.

Today is a rest day. I went to the Farmer’s Market, but it was extremely crowded. I didn’t get everything that I planned because there were such long lines around my favorite vendors. I usually try to get there before 10:00, but I was later today.

Judy, nice job with the 60 minute Peloton ride, 30 minute run, and Live Muscle Max-No Step.

Diane Sue, great job with CDorner workouts. Sleeping until 10:00 must have felt good. You did a lot of work before going to bed. I’m learning which moves to avoid for now which makes choosing a workout easier.

Cathy, great job with IMAX 3. Prepping your salad in advance is smart. I try to have my salad prepared ahead of time too. I don’t make individual jars, but I keep a a large bowl of salad greens washed and ready for serving. Then I can easily add the other salad ingredients to my serving plate.

Valerie, that’s good that you can sell or trade the equipment that you no longer need. We are currently watching the series Yellowstone with Kevin Costner. When I look at the landscape I think of you and your outdoor activities.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Carolyn the scenery is great in the series. entertaining but pretty much total nonsense. (TV!!) I've heard the prequel is better but haven't seen it. all those bunkhouse and barroom fights and no one's hat ever comes off! some scenes might have filmed in bozeman or livingston, but most of it is filmed somewhere else. I am forgetting where but I think Utah. the ranch itself is off hwy 93 south of Missoula. I have not seen it. its a gorgeous expensive place. my house does not look like that...

we are watching a series called The Split. British. really excellent. based on a group of high powered lawyers & their families. specialize in big money divorces in London. most language is easy to understand but we have subtitles on for the stray word or expression. it's an adult series, beautifully cast and acted and incredibly interesting and well written. kids would not enjoy it. the dialogue is WAY more complex than a long series of f-bombs. I highly recommend. we get on Hulu. I think it might be available on other networks, at least the first two seasons. Hulu now has a 3rd season. not sure if that is the end or if there is a 4th. we saw the first two seasons a year or two ago but are re-watching it before the 3rd season. its even better the second time through.

Valerie, I’m not surprised that Yellowstone was filmed in a different state. Film companies go where financial incentives are the greatest. The first three season were in Utah, but apparently season 4 is actually filmed in Montana at the Chief Joseph ranch in Darby, Montana. The scenes from Ozark that are supposed to be Lake Ozark were filmed here in Georgia at Lake Allatoona.

Yes, Darby is on hwy 93 south of missoula. I thought if I said Darby no one would know where I meant. we've driven thru there because we did a lot along hwy 93 north and south of there. for a while we were tracing parts parts of lewis and clark routes.
I'm sure they could have used some other place to sub for Bozeman and Livingston. I read Ozark was filmed elsewhere but didnt remember it was Georgia. I've never been to lake ozark and wont be going there so its fine with me. I thought the main ranch house Kevin costner is in was the ranch in Darby. It sure is a gorgeous looking place. a bit above my pay grade. you see houses that look like that scattered around. usually the fences around their property cost more than our entire house.

garden work and deck cleaning for a workout today.
