Pentagenarians & Beyond: June 15, 2025

Good morning, ladies. I took two very nice 5-mile walks this weekend. I really needed them! It felt good to get outside and just move.

Cathy - nice work with Low Max step combos. Low Max used to be one of my favorites.

Carolyn - I hope you enjoyed your yoga. It's a nice thing to do on a Sunday.

Hi to everyone else. I hope you all had a good weekend.

Today I did Live Jabs and Kicks and PHA Supersets with the Ball. We've hit a stretch of nice weather. Sunny a bit of a breeze and not super hot. Though we are going over 80 today.

Shannon I'm glad you were able to get outside and enjoy a couple long walks.

Today I did part of Gloved Up and Sweaty, 26 minutes, 141 calories burned, average heart rate 116, and maximum heart rate 153. Then I did STS 2 Chair Yoga, for an additional 21 minutes and 30 calories.

Shannon, I’m glad that you had nice long walks this weekend.

Cathy, great job with Live Jabs and Kicks and PHA Supersets with the Ball.

Hello to Judy, Valerie, and Diane Sue.

I did a yard walk yesterday for half an hour, and this morning we did our usual park walk, the one we haven't been able to make while DH's knee is so troublesome. he got his new brace delivered friday night. it's better than the temp one he's been using but not dramatically. more dental things this week, scheduled but he will take any cancellation opportunity to move it forward.
the walk this morning is 2.5 to 3 miles. takes about 1 hr 20 minutes. its a lot of up/ down and pleasantly woodsy. nothing much on the water during summer. were having lovely weather. mostly 60-70 low humidity, partly cloudy to sunny and wonderful. grass/weed /tree pollen is killing me this summer, have to take antihistamines until it settles down.

for those of you with Netflix, we watched an interesting documentary this weekend. called Titan. about the Oceangate submersible that imploded on a dive to view the titanic wreckage. its a documentary and not a movie. much of the building of the unit took place here in Everett WA at boatyards along the sound. footage showed a lot of familiar ( to me) places along the water and at the UW campus. . i didnt know until we watched it. no interest in the Titanic but this was still interesting. about 90 minutes. the CEO was the most arrogant dismissive jerk imaginable. no wonder things went wrong in a big way. just suggesting if you want to understand how things could have gone so terribly wrong.

Yesterday I went for a 40-minute walk outside. Today I did 45 minutes of Peloton rides, Muscle Meltdown Triceps and a 20-minute Peloton Full Body strength workout.

Cathy-Great job with Low Max step combos with the stretch from Body Max 2 and Live Jabs and Kicks and PHA Supersets with the Ball. The weather has been so nice this week! I’ve been spending as much time as I can outside.

Shannon-Great job with your walks. It’s so nice to get outside.

Carolyn-Great job with Jane Adams Gentle Yoga, Gloved Up and Sweaty and STS 2 Chair Yoga.

Valerie-Great job with your walks. That documentary sounds interesting. I don’t have any interest in the Titanic either but I have read quite a bit about the Titan submersible implosion. I agree, the CEO was unbelievable in his arrogance. I’m surprised something like that didn’t happen sooner than it did.

Hi to Diane Sue

Yesterday was a rest day and family time. Today I did CDorner Low Impact Cardio 80's all standing, 43 minutes, 242 calories, hear rate 122/152. The doctor called and I am going in Wednesday to get an epidural steroid with conscious sedation. Maybe getting the inflammation down will help till the methotrexate or whatever helps.

Valerie, I have the salon pas patches. My husband put one on and it helps some. I need to look into the lumbar support.

Good morning. Yesterday I did an upper body circuit workout on my own. I was supposed to do my usual total body workout, but my foot was hurting for no good reason. I absolutely do not need an injury, since I will be leaving for Malawi next Wednesday. So I was very careful, doing all of my upper body work either seated or kneeling to give the foot a rest. It’s still sort of iffy, so we will see what this day brings.

Cathy – Nice work with Live Jabs and Kicks and PHA Supersets with the Ball. Enjoy your nice weather. It’s supposed to hit 91 here today.

Carolyn – Good job with Gloved Up and Sweaty and STS2 Chair Yoga.

Valerie – Nice job on the yard walk and park walk. How was DH’s knee after the park walk? I’m sorry about your allergies, but I’d say the lovely weather would be worth it. My sister is vacationing in Colorado and keeps texting me about how nice and cool it is up there. So I text her that she’s missing all the “lovely” humidity and heat. She actually does love it, and I love the cold, so we really need to change places. I call her the Heat Miser and she calls me the Cold Miser from one of those Claymation Christmas specials way back when.

Judy – Good work on your walk and Peloton workouts. Yes, it is definitely good to get outside.

Diane – Best wishes on your procedure. I sure hope it helps.

good morning. yes judy the guy totally dismissed warnings and safety precautions and all the words from the experts he hired and did what he wanted to do but it didn't turn out well for him or the people he had with him. it was an interesting watch. so many movies are so incredibly stupid that i need a break sometimes from dumbness over load. this one didnt get dragged out into a 7 hour series. i had no idea there would be so many local areas in the background. we drive past several times a week. its a working waterfront for the most part, not filled with condos and restaurants. a naval base there too.

shannon his knee is reasonably ok after the park walk. this brace is better. medicare denied paying but it wasnt ridiculously expensive. no clue why. it will be helpful for the time we need to stall before the knee surgery which will probably be a while yet. now a temp crown fell off.
too funny... im a happy cold person . i would never purposely vacation in a hot place. it is so uncomfortable i cant wait to leave. even hawaii was too hot for me. i dont like water sports, boating, or swimming. i can swim and snorkel but i dont enjoy either. tropical locations always sound like some kind of awful punishment to me. malawi sounds like a hot destination. how come you are going there?

if I take an antihistamine every other day im ok. not mowing the lawn or sitting in the grass helps.

diane sue ive had several procedures similar to what you are having. my problem area was lower on the spine. i did not need sedation. injections only helped me briefly but they work very well for a lot of people. thats how i got pointed toward the lumbar fusion.
i hope injection helps . i use the back brace regularly but definitely not all the time. when we do a specific walk like yesterday I wear the brace. it makes me change my posture a little and reinforces the low back area. as you can see, salon pas needs someone else to put it on for you. they help a lot and quickly. IMO.

Valerie - I'm going on a mission trip to Malawi. Our group will be there about nine days. I added Blantyre, Malawi to my weather app so I can see the weather. That's the closest city to where we will be working. Malawi is on the other side of the equator, so it will actually be winter there, which makes me happy, LOL. I've tracked the weather since January, which is when I decided to take the trip. Overall, it seems like they have fairly moderate temperatures, I think because they are in the mountains. The warmest I've seen is in the 80s. The forecast for the week ahead shows lows in the 50s and highs in the 70s, which will be really nice. They divide their seasons into the rainy season and dry season. Summer is rainy, winter is dry, thank goodness. Back in their summer, my weather app showed rain nearly every single day. I'm totally with you on tropical destinations. Just shoot me, you know?

Today I did STS 2.0 Giant Sets Total Body express. My time was 24 minutes, 100 calories burned, average heart rate 111, and maximum heart rate 143. We had a tree service company coming this morning so I needed a shorter workout. We had a very large tree removed that was threatening the house and a mulberry. tree that had grown sideways and was hanging over part of the street. It’s good to have them taken care of.

Valerie, nice work with the walks. I remember the news about that submersible. The arrogance of the CEO is shocking.

Judy, great job with the outside walk, Peloton rides, Muscle Meltdown Triceps, and Peloton full body strength.

Diane Sue, I hope that the upcoming procedure gives you some relief.

Shannon, nice job with your own upper body circuit. I hope you your foot feels better soon.

Waving hello to Cathy.

we did our regular ride this morning, 75 minutes 15 miles. its been really lovely outside. sunny not hot and not humid.

diane sue i looked at my back braces. i have 2. one is a Sparthos brand. it has a stiff reinforced triangle in the lower back and wraps over the front with huge velcro flaps. it was about $30. i have another that is wider and has several velcro straps that can be adjusted. it has a metal stay in the back. its bigger and warmer which might factor in in summer. it fits higher up than the sparthos one. i use the sparthos one more often because its less bulky. the one with straps might have been $40. , cant find the brand name. no one recommended them, i read a few reviews and ordered what t looked like support for the right area. amazon. sizing varies. small in one size might be different in another brand. I wear them on longer walks. they make me sit and walk straighter and for whatever reason, my back aches less when i use them part of the time. i use them over a light layer of clothing. i use them for gardening too when there is a lot of bending and lifting.

ok shannon, malawi does not sound like a top tourist spot for sure. enjoy your trip, hope the foot settles down. i thought florida was the worst place ive ever been. unbelievable humidity, hot and miserable with thunderstorms every afternoon. even in a motel with air conditioning running full blast it was too damp.

It was zoo day and, I forgot to charge my watch. So it got an hour and 55 minutes and died. At least that was most of it as I was only there about 20 minutes longer. Then I went to my parents.

I'm with Valerie and Shannon. No interest in hot destinations. The two times the boys and I flew to visit my sister in FL, we went in March and October. 50-75 is my preferred temp range. But I prefer colder than that to hotter for sure. Any day we need the air (and we don't turn it on till it hits 80 in the house) is not a plus. We've got at least a week of those days coming up.

Shannon have you been to Africa previously?

Diane Sue I hope the steroid treatment helps your back.

Hi Carolyn and Judy.

Today I did a 20 minute “Max Out” Row and Muscle Meltdown Biceps. I’m going to take a few active rest days this week, starting tomorrow.

Diane Sue-Great job with CDorner Low Impact Cardio 80's. I hope the epidural shot helps with your pain.

Shannon-Great job with your upper body circuit workout. I hope your mission trip goes well.

Carolyn-Great job with STS 2.0 Giant Sets Total Body express. It’s really good that you had that tree taken care of.

Valerie-Great job with your regular ride.

Cathy-It looks like we’ll be having several days in a row over 90 degrees, from late this week through next week. I prefer warmer weather over cold, but over 90 is a bit much. 75-80 is about right for me.

Good morning. Yesterday I did After Burn – always a fantastic workout. I did the cooldown but skipped the stretch and did a 30-minute stretch after dinner.

Valerie – I’m glad DH’s knee is holding up and that the new brace helps. I’m glad you two can continue with your park walks and your bike rides. I have no desire to go to Florida. Arkansas has enough humidity, thank you very much.

Carolyn – Good work on Giant Sets Total Body Express. Ugh, I’m sorry you had to cut down the trees. That’s always sad to me. But you sure don’t want one to endanger your house. My foot is fine now, thanks. But this foot has caused me plenty of problems in the past, so I figured I’d better be extra careful.

Cathy – Are the paths all fixed at the zoo? I have never been to Africa, nor on any sort of mission. I'm getting a late start in life, LOL.

Judy - was the Max Out Row as hard as it sounds? I’ll bet your body will appreciate the active rest days after all the tough workouts you’ve been doing.

Hello to Diane.

I did a barre combo from XTrain and LBB and Restorative Yoga today. Not sure I'll get a workout in the next couple days. tomorrow is shopping and then Friday I'm leaving by 8 or earlier to go to South Bend to the zoo. I want to see the babies there before they get bigger. I swear that Flopsy has radar. She was happily sitting in the window watching the birds and as soon as I switched to being on the floor to stretch, she was right there to "assist." Tux has the same ability. Bonus fun when they are both there.

Shannon yes they fixed the path at the zoo. Still smells like fresh asphalt. LOL But, it will allow those with mobility issues to use the path. Especially the area that was uphill, and every time it rained the ruts would get deeper. Some were more like trenches, so anyone who needs a cane, walker or wheelchair would have struggled.

Judy I agree with Shannon something named Max Out Row sounds tough!

I did a 20 minute walk this morning for my active rest workout. It's nice out now but it looks like we will be getting some bad storms later today and tonight.

Shannon-Great job with Afterburn. The Max Out Row was challenging for me. After the warm up, there are 5 x 2 minute intervals that get increasingly harder. I usually do endurance rowing which is lower intensity. 20 minutes was definitely enough for me.

Cathy-Great job with the barre combo from XTrain and LBB and Restorative Yoga. I hope you have a good trip to South Bend.

Hi to Carolyn, Valerie & Diane Sue

We used to have sales meetings in Florida usually january-ish depending. it was always too hot and humid but the higher-ups wanted to golf. for sure the last place in the world I wanted to be was on a golf course ( intense grass allergy) in hot humid florida. i thought it was hideous. water used to roll down the inside of the windows in the hotel room from the contrast between outside and inside air. attending meetings was not optional. one year we had the meeting in AZ. in january. it was wonderful but it was "too cold" for the golfers so that was the only time. we were limited on locations because hundreds of people were involved and not that many places could handle a group that size.

just got a call from DH's oral surgery clinic moving his appt from this friday to monday at a different office. he had to change several other appts to fit that in. sure gets complicated. that is the most important appt and we built the other appts around it. arrgh!
shannon we have an acquaintance who spends a lot of time in Uganda. her partner/husband to be is a game preserve manager. it seemed pretty warm and dry, like African savannah with all the wild critters you associate with Africa. take those risks seriously. maybe malawi is different? i know nothing more about africa except there are many animals that will eat you or otherwise kill you. .
tee hee.... cathy our cat also loves to play when i get on the floor. crunches and things are a competitive sport to him.
