Pentagenarians & Beyond: April 13, 2025

Today I did the Step plus low impact floor from Step, Jump and Pump and Live Rapid Fire Legs & Core. Rapid Fire is a good description. Fast, lots of reps and just wow. One of those workouts where it's a good thing that I didn't know what I was getting into. LOL

Valerie the thing with my Mom's surgery is that the wait time for the hospital is way, way shorter than the clinic. By having to wait 5 months it gives her lots of time to come up with excuses. They live in Kalamazoo, so the level of care is very high, she just has a fear that goes back to her very earliest childhood, when she would leap out of the dentist chair and flee out the door as young as 5. She's also had a deep fear of heights and water from that time, but no one knows why. I remember my grandpa saying that she would go up the ladder to the silo with him, and then one day she just said no she couldn't do it and he didn't push her, but always wondered if he should have. Bathes were never more than 3-4" deep. I will not be involved. Dad does all the driving, so no need for me to be around, and believe me if it happens, I don't want to be. She will not be pleasant.

Good morning. I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga for 18 minutes. Yesterday was a rest day. I had my investment club meeting.

Diane Sue, nice job with LMR Functional Barre + Upper Body foam roller, CDorner Step, CDorner stretch, and Raw Stretch. I’m glad that your blood pressure seems to be going back down.

Cathy, great job with Upper/Lower Body balance discs, SB Lying Stretch, Step+ floor from SJP, and Live Rapid Fire Legs and Core. It’s good to know that you see improvement in your balance from the balance disc workouts.

Hello to Valerie, Judy, and Shannon.

cathy I must have misread. I thought you said the other way around on what was faster. we have an abundance of people doing cataracts here. wait times are short. hospital admits are always such a BFD ( having done it several times in the last few years) i would think the clinic would be better but you know your parents, especially your mother.( are you really sure you're her daughter???) being in the hospital might be better if she needs more sedation than the average person. they definitely do NOT want someone squirming and wiggling mid procedure. getting up and running out..... no. I was fidgeting my feet without realizing it, and they told me to hold still. even if she's not "pleasant", she has to hold still.

there is an eye drop regimen after surgery that has to be followed. the clinic i used offered a mix of the drops for a small additional cost. instead of using 3 or 4 different drops in little vials 4x a day, I used the mixture ,1 drop 4x a day. something about like that. they had a check sheet to mark off each day. that was for 3-4 weeks. if its an option, get the mixture! its worth $100. especially if she is getting both eyes done close together it will be easy to mix up or forget. put it up on the bathroom mirror!. antibiotic, steroid and something else. my neighbor did her eyes a month or two before me. she went to a different clinic and was not given the premix option thru that clinic. she had the coke bottle glasses before and now only needs OTC readers for close work.
I'm not very brave but walking into that pre op room and seeing two rows of people all sitting up in rolling beds with IVs running, chatting away, totally reduced my anxiety.

Ive been doing some version of tree pose regularly and am better balanced especially on one side. practice does help.

gardening today. then Stacked sets upper body.

Good morning, ladies. I hope everyone had a good weekend. Saturday was an all-day yard work event. Man was I tired! But I think from here on out, it should just be regular summer upkeep. Sunday I took a walk and did some evening stretches.

Cathy – I watched your ice storm video. Holy COW!! That was awful! I’m sorry your mom has such a fear of doctors, heights and water. It must be very hard for her to deal with fears like that, and I’m sure dementia makes it even worse. Nice work on SJ&P – now that’s an oldie but goodie! The Rapid Fire workout sounds like fun.

Carolyn – I hope you enjoyed your rest day and yoga. And I hope your investments are doing ok. I don’t really want to look at mine, but at the same time, I’m sort of curious. Ugh.

Valerie – Did you have a nice gardening day? I’ve been practicing my balance more too. The balance discs have definitely helped me to improve my one-legged balancing yoga poses. I used to have excellent balance and would do a series of the yoga poses, going from one to the next, all on one leg and then switching. But then I had some feet issues and had to stop, and of course lost all of that skill. I figured I’d better get back into it.

Hello to Judy and Diane.

This morning I did Gloved Up and Sweaty, Live Weight Plate Abs and Restorative Yoga. I hope the new workouts include another Restorative Yoga workout. I feel like it's really beneficial for me. We are in one of those fun weather periods. Except for tomorrow our next couple week temps are mid 50's-70 yay!

Today I did RWH Low Impact HiiT One, 28 minutes, 174 calories burned, average heart rate 127, maximum heart rate 150.

Cathy, great job with Gloved Up and Sweaty, Live Weight Plate Abs, and Restorative yoga.

Shannon, great job with your yard work. That sounds like a big job.

Hello to Valerie, Judy, and Diane Sue.

garden jobs were not glamorous but I cleaned out a bed I'd started working on that had grass growing up all over. got it done. grass grows poorly in the lawn but goes crazy in the flower beds. I only spent maybe 2 hours crawling in the dirt, all day is a killer workout. maybe lower key but all day really adds up and works a lot of muscles differently than usual. thanks for the reminder to look at the ice storm video. i meant to go back to look and then forgot.

today we did a road ride 15 miles. DH had a flat tire even with his special tires flat averse tires. . really galls him that I get so few flats and he gets them all. turns out it was the valve stem that started leaking and we could not fix out on a trail. needed to order a part. I had to leave him and finish myself, load the bike, and drive back to pick him up. took longer than usual. I appreciate.... he usually does that part of the trip.
we wanted to do a trip this week but after finding all the ferries full we realized thi is spring break. nope, wait until next week.

i always think I get balance practice riding regularly. dont know how that compares to yoga balances. im good on left leg but not on the right leg.

carolyn I hope your club ladies ( and you) did ok with the financial whiplash last qweek. time to not do anything rash and sudden and let things settle. not good unless you are into insider trading.

We had contractors working at the condo all weekend. We are ordering the carpet tomorrow and hopefully will get it installed later this week or next. After that we will be shopping for new bedroom furniture. We went for years without doing anything to the condo and now the past couple of years have just been one project after the other and it’s been more stressful than I expected. I shouldn’t be complaining about something positive but I will be so happy when we finally get back to normal. I did manage to get a Peloton ride in yesterday and a Peloton 45 minute Full Body strength workout in today.

Cathy-Great job with Step plus low impact floor from Step, Jump and Pump and Live Rapid-Fire Legs & Core, Gloved Up and Sweaty, Live Weight Plate Abs and Restorative Yoga. I really like restorative yoga too.

Carolyn-Thank you for starting the weekly thread. Great job with Jane Adams Gentle Yoga and RWH Low Impact HiiT One.

Hi to Valerie, Shannon and Diane Sue.

No workout yesterday and Saturday I went to my great grandson's birthday party. It took me an hour and 15 minutes to get there avoiding city. Miles of up and down hills and occasional homes. I decided to do the city trip on the way back. Not all of those country roads have street signs. I was afraid I might have been misguided by my Google Maps. Yesterday my back hurt and I did LMR yoga bonus with the warm up from Restorative yoga mix, since it has some spinal decompression on it. I think I need to avoid so much flexion till this vertebrae thing heals. I have an appointment with my primary doctor Monday to go over the things on my chest CT and help me out.
Today I did CDorner Classic Aerobics workout hi or lo impact, 45 minutes, 279 calories, 4,704 steps. I followed it with CDorner Morning Spinal Mobility Day 10 of the challenge, 21 minutes, 24 calories. Total time 66 minutes, 303 calories. Tomorrow is game day with my lady's group so not sure I will get anything in.

Cathy, nice work on Gloved Up and Sweaty, Live Weight Plate Abs, and Restorative Yoga. It would be nice to have more of the restorative yoga.

Carolyn, good job on LWH Low Impact Hiit 1 today.

Valerie, garden and yard work is a workout for sure. I always end up with sore knees and back by the time I am done. Sorry your bike ride finished with a flat tire. I like to do balance work. I am always so much better on my left leg than right.

Judy, that stuff is always kind of stressful. When we did stuff like that in our last home we always had a mess all over to work around. We did flooring, ceramic tile, repainting and adding a guest bath off the living room so guests did not have to go through our bedroom or upstairs. Also updated the ceiling in the kitchen. Some work we did ourselves. I did loads of clean up. You will love it when you can relax and enjoy it.

Shannon, yard work and spring stuff is work. Nice that you got in a walk Sunday.

Good morning. Mondays are usually my days to lift weights on my own, but I wanted some company yesterday, so I did the LMR lower body and upper body workouts, cutting out parts here and there to shorten the time. I also played with the weights and added a few more balance challenges here and there. It was a very thorough and satisfying workout.

Cathy – I’m glad the restorative yoga helps you. What do you notice the most? I still haven’t tried it. Enjoy your nice weather! Much better than that awful ice storm.

Carolyn – Good job with RWH Low Impact HiiT One. That’s a good one. The yard work was a big job just because it was an all day event, but nothing I did was especially hard. I didn’t lift any big rocks this time!

Valerie – Why does grass do that, anyway? I’d have a lovely lawn if it would grow where it’s supposed to. I wonder why DH gets so many flats? Is he in the lead when you ride? Maybe he picks up all the sharp things first. I’d say some of the yoga balances would be good to add in because they work in different planes than riding a bike.

Judy – Good to hear from you! I know home renovation can be stressful. My parents did a lot last year, and my mom was ready to scream by the time the workers finally finished. It’s disruptive and messy, even though the end product is a very good thing.

Diane - I hope you had fun at your grandson’s party, despite the long drive. I sure hope you get some helpful news from your doctor. I think it’s long past a time that you get a break.

Today I did Pyramid Pump Upper Body. Rainy and colder again today, but starting tomorrow things are looking better for the next couple weeks. Planning to go to my parents tomorrow, but I'll have plenty of time to workout first.

Today I did LMR Functional Upper Body for 52 minutes and 140 calories burned. My average heart rate was 103 and maximum heart rate was 132.

Valerie, nice work with cleaning out a garden bed and the 15 mile road ride. Our club is definitely not making stock decisions based on the market turmoil. We study stocks carefully before purchasing. If we see something that we want to buy at a good price we might purchase.

Judy, it sounds like your remodeling project is almost finished. I’m sure that you will enjoy the new space. Great job with Peloton ride and Full Body Strength.

Diane Sue, nice job with LMR Yoga bonus, CDorner Classic Aerobics, and CDorner spinal mobility. It’s good that you could attend your great grandson’s birthday party.

Shannon, great job with LMR Lower Body and Upper Body.

Cathy, great job with Pyramid Pump Upper Body.

We are not dedicated lawn people. we have a lot of space and need something to walk on that isnt total weeds, so grass it is. the darn stuff spreads into all the places you dont really want it to. we have a lot of plants to keep the ground covered or it would be a million dandelions or mud.

we did the bathroom remodel this year. floor, tub, lights, countertops, sink, faucets, paint. some we did, most we contracted. wasnt bad because its a guest bath. its a stress having people coming and going. we had to get the order of things right and schedule everyone in proper sequence. they all did a great job but still glad they're done. we did the cabinet doors before that. some we like to do but not all.

we got DH's bike fixed today. had to order a new valve stem for the tire. its got this white milky looking solution that goes insidethe tire to seal air leaks. the stem itself was leaking. we got it fixed.

shannon its a question he asks all the time, "Why me??" i always ride in front and my bike has basic plain tires. ive had very few flats and its hard to explain why he gets so many. he has special flat resistant tires. for a while he had a defective wheel rim that had rough spots but thats long gone. no clue.
he wears clip in shoes that are impossible to walk in. the soles are as stiff as boards, I could not walk in them at all. he had to stop before the tire was totally flat so he was in a spot I could drive back to get him.. last 4 miles of the trail is not reachable by car. walking that would be absolute hell! I tried clip in shoes and could not wear them at all. total fail!! if any of you remember Josie I sold them to her. lots of people like them because they transmit more power to the pedals.

did a park walk this morning for an hour and a half. really springy and lovely out.

Today I did Live Core with Yoga Blocks Express. I absolutely loved this one and added it to my favorites. I really hope she does more core with the blocks. Then I did Stretch Max with the band. Hoping to get things I need to do done and head for K'zoo in an hour.

Valerie our yard is one where we basically don't do anything. It's more than half none grass, but stays green is dry times far longer than those who have brown grass. When we moved in my Dad had been mowing the whole thing with a few planted trees. After 27 years, we have a number of decent size trees the birds planted, including 3 mulberries, and 4 apple. Lots of dogwood, and other shrubs. The violets and daisies jumped flower beds into the yard and dandelions are welcome. Yard maintenance is not our thing. In sharp contrast to our neighbor who has lots of flower beds, a raised bricked pond, a bridge over water they can turn on that creates a waterfall that ends in the pond and more. LOL Your DH must get so frustrated with the number of flats he has.

Today I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one. That was 26 minutes, 190 calories burned, average heart rate 135, and maximum heart rate 165. We have the typical manicured southern suburban lawn. My husband used to be fanatical about keeping it just right. He can no longer do that, but we have a lawn maintenance service that comes weekly.

Valerie, nice job with the park walk. I’m glad that your husband’s bike is repaired. You mentioned selling your clip in shoes to Josie which reminded me of the members who were a part of this group when I first joined. I also remember Janie in addition to Lynda, Deb, and Lori.

Cathy, nice job with Live Core with Yoga Blocks. I hope that you enjoy your trip.

Hello to Diane Sue, Judy, and Shannon. Have a great day everyone.

DH and I did the bike repair. he's better at it. often you need another pair of hands to get and hold things in place so thats my job. the more you ride x 2 bikes , the more things go wrong. we're good at fixing basic things. bike shops get backed up with simple repairs when weather is nice and take a long time. we like to ride often. this new tire was messy to fix but tubeless so in some ways, easier. Youtube to the rescue.
we rode again this morning, 15 miles. tire was good.

Josie used to ride some really long distance rides. i used to ride longer but even way back then I maxed out at 40 miles. i can do 25 but usually dont. n

yes, remember all those names wonder what happened to everyone from then?

cathy our yard sounds more like yours. we mow the lawn part and the semi grassy areas so its not an overgrown mess. grass would be 7 feet tall here by fall . much of it is doug fir, alder, hemlock spruce, maple trees. deer here eat dogwood to the ground, immediately. a lot of shrubby bushes like salmon berry and nettle bleeding hearts, ferns.

We have to wait until tomorrow to order our carpet, since Home Depot has a new sale starting. Also, I found out the carpet install will probably be 2-3 weeks out so not as soon as I had planned.
We ended up going furniture shopping today and got our bedroom set ordered. We ordered a set of Amish furniture that we really like. It will take around 12 weeks to get, so probably mid-late July. We also ordered a mattress but that will come sooner. It’s going to be an interesting summer if we end up doing our half bath remodel and generator hook up too. We might put the bath remodel on hold for a bit.

Yesterday I did 40 minutes of rowing and a 45 minute Peloton Restorative Yoga class. This afternoon I did a 45 minute Peloton ride and 10 minutes of Arms & Light Weights.

Diane Sue-Great job with LMR Yoga bonus, CDorner Classic Aerobics, and CDorner spinal mobility. That’s good that you went to your great grandson’s birthday party. I hope your back feels better today.

Shannon-Great job with the LMR Upper & Lower Body workouts. It’s really stressful having work done but I know it will be worth it once it’s all finished.

Cathy-Great job with Pyramid Pump Upper Body, Live Core with Yoga Blocks Express and Stretch Max. It was so nice and sunny today but a little chilly. Hopefully it will start getting warmer next week.

Carolyn-Great job with LMR Functional Upper Body and KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one. I remember Josie, Deb, Lynda & Lori but I don’t remember a Janie. She must have left before I joined the group.

Valerie-Great job with your park walk. I have dual sided pedals on my mountain bike so I can use clip in shoes if I want. They take a little getting used to. I remember Josie doing those long distance bike rides.

No workout yesterday. I had a nice time with my lady's group and when I got home my husband and I went out to eat and then had a ride on his BMW scooter he just got. Today I did Raw Barre #1, 39 minutes, 140 calories, heart rate 99/159. I then did L.ITE Pyramid Pump triceps superset and biceps superset, 15 minutes, 78 calories, and finished with Raw Your Healthy Back, 33 minutes, 76 calories. Total time 87 minutes, 294 calories. Our lawn needs mowed. We have someone that does it every year. One year we did not have someone and bought an electric mower and used it once. I don't even know how to use it.

Shannon, good job mixing parts of LMR Upper Body and Lower body for a full workout and getting in some balance work. I did a little of the upper body balance disc work today. I am trying to be careful with back till I see my doctor. I have researched move to do and not to do with it myself.

Cathy, nice work on Live Core Yoga Blocks express and Stretch Max with the band.

Carolyn, good job on Cardio Quick Fix today.

Valerie, I am glad you and your husband got the tire fixed. My husband and I often work together on things like that. Youtube comes in handy with a lot of things. That is great that you got it done and did a 15 mile ride today.

Judy, it always takes a while to get furniture once you pick it out. You have a lot going on. Good, job on yesterday's 40 minutes of rowing and 45 minute Peloton Restorative Yoga class and today's 45 minute Peloton ride and 10 minutes Arms & Light Weights.

josie used to do century rides and long rides to generate funds for AIDS. my legs could do 100 miles but my wrists, hands and butt cant!. I used to ride longer rides but at most once a week. now we ride 2-3 times a week but usually 15 miles so it adds up to as much or more mileage.

I have a major grass allergy. it seems mainly to cultivated grass, probably to a specific grass like kentucky blue grass. wild grass isnt a problem. i drive the mower around pulling a cart for outdoor chores but not mowing. once the allergies get activated I am unhappy for a long time. i dont even go outside when DH mows. with a riding mower it doesnt take that long and we arent too fussy about it.

Judy ..clip in shoes on a mountain bike? I could not manage them even on a road bike. I used them for a few weeks but hated every second. I just hated the sensation and fell more than once. i am so loose jointed that i could not tell if I was "connected" or not. 100% happy to get rid of the shoes. there was only one brand I could wear at all. a failed experiment.
I dont remember a Janie either but yes on Deb,Lori, and lynda.

furniture deliveries always seem to take longer than expected. at least
amish things are fairly local. the whole tariff business might cause delays on anything imported. or not. who knows?
