Pentagenarians & Beyond 3/13

Today I did Rock'm Sock'm KB. I added on the Blizzard Blast and Muscle Meltdown Triceps I had forgotten how challenging the Blizzard Blast is in this one. I had to modify that a little.

Carolyn-Great job with Stacked Sets Lower Body!

Valerie-I know what Miracle Grow planting mix bags you are talking about and they are big and heavy. I've struggled a few times trying to help a customer get them onto their cart. They are hard to move around.

Diane Sue-Your progress is impressive!

Cathy-Great job with Boxing Hiit Express! It was so nice out today. It got into the 60's and will be close to 70 tomorrow. It will be so nice to not have to wear a winter coat to work.

My cardiovascular appointment went well today. No meds, so I am happy. I left at 9 this morning for this appointment and did not get home till 1. I had such a headache by the end of waiting. The doctor said the ultrasound looked like the leaky valve was better than before. My calcium score is okay. Blood pressure was up a bit there. I told him it was less before I came in. He said they expect it to be higher with most patients when they come in. How relaxed can a person be after doing the ultrasound and waiting in the waiting room, then waiting in the exam room for so long? He said we just need to check once in a while since Rheumatoid arthritis does attack arteries. He said I am active and take care of it so that is good. Odd though as I was surprised how much weight he had gained since I last saw him.
It was funny this evening my husband was feeding our fish and I caught site of a little tiny fish coming out to get food before one of the big ones went after it. One of our cichlids gave us babies! I am hoping they don't eat it or something. I don't know if there is just one or I am seeing different little striped fish coming out. We have lots of hiding places in the tank. Fish are funny. They know my husband is the one that feeds them. He gets out of his chair and heads that direction and they all see him from a distance and come out in a group. They do not do that to me.

Valerie, the woman that did my ultrasound said she had the same surgery I did in 2013. She said she is sure she is going to need it again on the other shoulder, but knowing how painful it was, she is putting it off.
It really does hurt to twist or turn to pick up things with the good arm. I hurt for a long time in my chest wall. My bones and other muscles all felt like they had all been through trauma. I kept wondering if it was my breasts, but it was really tender around the bony areas. Thankfully that has subsided. I have been worried about the upcoming mammogram. Shoulder surgery is a lot of trauma. At least compared to other surgeries I have had. My knee swelled twice it's side, but the pain was nothing like the shoulder. I have never used a whole bottle of pain pills till this surgery. And that was trying to get buy longer and off and on use Advil 800m mg. It was all too much on my stomach. I am glad that is all over. It has been 3 months and I today was the first time I had a longer drive that did not cause my shoulder to hurt. It is mildly achy tonight, but so much better and not like it hurt before surgery. If groceries were stocked up ahead and non perishable items your sister might do okay. I have ordered shelf stable Califa Farms Barista oat milk and oatmeal packets, canned foods, water packs, tuna and that sort of thing in bulk packs from Amazon. So, a person could possibly survive. No fresh fruit and veggies though. I cannot imagine your sister trying to get in and out of a tub with one arm. Not only that, I was told to shower and not get the arm in the water at first. Wrap it in plastic wrap. Plus, a few times stepping in the tub to shower, I slipped and just gently bumping the shoulder hurt. My husband kept telling me to use the walk in shower. He was sleeping and I did not want to go to the master bath to do that and I am not one to wait till late in the day to take a shower.
Too bad your sister cannot watch a YouTube of what the surgery entails. I watched some and it kind of made me cringe. My PT said the muscles have to relearn the movement. I doubt your sister would be one of those people that would follow orders and do what they are told to do to get better. They say the shoulder is in play for most things we do.

Carolyn, yes, that is the aunt I was talking about. She was something else and it seemed weird that through this pandemic I only was able to catch her on facebook letting people know she was okay. I had sent e mails and everything and kept wondering what was up. I was worried as she was one to just be by herself. I think she enjoyed the company of some of the other people her age that travelled and when she went to certain campgrounds. Nice work on stacked sets.

Cathy, good idea to do something else if the knee does not feel quite right. It got up to upper 70's today. Weather is so weird since we just had snow and weather in the teens. It melted off pretty quickly though. We are dealing with the usual March winds. I had to slow down before surgery because that shoulder hurt so much. I am doing so much better. Pretty happy with it today :)

Around here it seems both Lowes and Home Depot leave stuff out in front of the stores. Even Walmart would have all of their bags of mulch and those items sitting out in the parking lot. I often wondered how they kept the stuff from being taken. Maybe cameras? Or maybe we have less thieves around here. I never did get why they did that. Sprouts put florals, plants, pumpkins and melons out in front of the store. I am sure they did not drag all of that in and out every day. The thing with the melons though, is I think they were putting them out to get sun and ripen. When they did that and then they went inside, they were not very good watermelons. I got better at Walmart.

that was one of the deal breakers for me reading about the surgery. keeping it clean. sister is NOT fit to begin with. I can't see how it's possible. unless she has serious help lined up, I don't think she can do this. good idea at all.
I buy a lot for her but have resisted doing regular grocery shopping. she is living in an untenable situation. the faster she moves to something manageable, the better. she is not doing anything toward selling and moving. I do not want to further enable her to do all the wrong things. if that means she has to suffer with shoulder pain because surgery is unsafe, then that is what will happen.

we have a huge problem with shoplifting around here. people grab things and just walk out of the store. store management has backed off on confrontation because of employees getting injured etc. maybe the garden supplies are not costly enough and are too bulky to have a major theft problem? probably too much work to steal 30 lb bags of mulch that are only $4. cant sell mulch for drug money too easily. we have a huge homeless problem around here. things get stolen right and left. catalytic converters are the latest thing to get stolen with serious frequency. thieves can cut the unit off the bottom of your car in a few minutes, and sell it to a recycler for big $$. very expensive to replace and the car is not usable without one. if its not happening where you live, it will probably get there unless you have laws in place to keep money out of the resale market.

I had an 8:30 appointment with my primary care doctor today so I did not work out.

Cathy, you were smart to give your knee a rest. I have days like that occasionally. Nice job with back and biceps and the outdoor walk.

Judy, great job with Rock’m Sock’m kickboxing and Muscle Meltdown Triceps. The Blizzard Blast is something that I have only tried once. The main workout is more than enough for me!

Diane Sue, that’s good news about the cardiovascular appointment. It’s always a good thing when you don’t have to add meds. My doctor is monitoring my cholesterol which was starting to inch up, but I have refused to start medication for now. I’m trying hard to manage it with diet and exercise. The numbers are going down now, but I might have to try the medication if this doesn’t work.

Valerie, people are stealing catalytic converters here too. The most recent thing is stealing gasoline from parked vehicles. Some people are even drilling holes in the tank which causes thousands of dollars in damage.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Just watched the clip from Cathe's Live today and it looks like so much fun! I think I'm going to do that Saturday. Uses a stability ball and loop. It's cardio and core. At one point they are doing what appear to be doing suicides while rolling the ball along with them. Some stuff with ball and loop.

Valerie that catalytic converter theft is happening here too, in Northern Lower peninsula they recently broke up one ring, but say there's another in the Traverse City area. Dealing with your sister has to be so frustrating for you, and you're right enabling her won't help her.

Judy great job with Rock'em, Sock'em and the add on's! It was so nice again today! Now we have a chance of rain the next two days. It's going to be weeks before I can stop wearing boots when I walk the paths.

Diane Sue glad to hear that your appointment went well today!

Carolyn glad your appointment went well also!

Today was a longer session at PT. It was an hour and 15 minutes. PT added more strength moves. I did straight arm lateral raises slightly forward to hit a certain muscle with 2#. Rotating in and out with a band. Also tubing work. Still doing the pegs, ladder, arm bike, weight bar work. I am sore tonight. I don't go back till Tuesday since he will be gone Monday, and I will be gone the end of the week. Hopefully I can get some work in myself and some cardio.

Valerie, I saw a video clip on next door neighborhood recently that the police department put up warning people to beware of the catalytic converter thefts. So, yes it has happened here. It is a terrible shame that these thieves are not punished and let go to do that. We do not have that part happening to businesses and that sort of thing though. It is too sad for those store owners.

Carolyn, I have made changes in my diet as well and it is helping. Oddly what I was eating was not considered unhealthy. But, I have lowered fat intake and watch saturated fat. I have cut back on caffeine for the blood pressure.

Cathy, I am hoping to be able to subscribe to Cathe Live again once I can do all of my workouts again.

JUdy, nice work with Rock'em Sock'em kickbox. That blizzard blast always felt pretty intense.

catalytic converter theft is big business here because the recyclers are not held accountable. they are dealing in OBVIOUS stolen property. thieves target what they can resell easily for a lot of $$. it starts with first stealing a car to accomplish the second objective.

I got a little side tracked, thinking bags of mulch. less likely to get taken because they don't resell well! what changed in the past year is how blatant property crime is. we have issues in broad daylight in busy parking lots, like Target/costco. Thieves drive in, saw off a converter, and drive off with a third armed guy standing by to shoot at anyone trying to intervene. they first steal a vehicle to do this . we are getting ATM theft like that too, steal a vehicle, drive thru the front of a store with an ATM, grab the money or the whole ATM. we also are getting gas theft with drilling into gas tanks. maybe a few of these guys will ignite the gasoline and get blown up? one can hope. that kind of news will travel fast too. businesses with fleets of truck parked outside are having theft occur again and again.

I had my car's gas line cut parked over night at a trailhead. DH and were backpacking. we got back to the car and drove home. never noticed a thing. when I started to fill the tank a few days later, suddenly gasoline was flooding the ground. unnerving! I had it fixed ( it's my current car) but it took a while to fix even with insurance coverage. thieves had all night at an isolated trailhead in the dark. not quite the same as noon 200 yards from Target front door.

I did 30 on the elliptical and x train abs last night.
we are getting our security system upgraded today. first step to dropping land line. it will be possible to monitor when we are away from here.

my sister got the description of the surgery I sent her a week ago. its so crazy that it takes so long to transmit any information! she read some of it and is having second thoughts. I emphasized the part about getting in and out of a bathtub. I'm sure she never does any exercise except limited walking.

today we did a 1 hr mt bike ride. it was harder than expected. it was very muddy and hard to negotiate. soft mud is not good to ride thru.

diane sue, sounds like a serious amount of therapy exercises.

This morning I did Stacked Sets Upper Body and Extended Stretch #2. My time was 56 minutes with 252 calories burned. Average heart rate was 116 and maximum heart rate was 163.

Cathy, the Cathe Live preview looks interesting. I don’t know why streaming workouts just don’t appeal to me. I subscribed to Suzanne Bowen and Cathe Live for a while but never used them enough to justify the expense. I still have Chris Freytag’s Gethealthyu, but I don’t use that one much either. I think it probably has to do with my need to plan and organize ahead of a workout and to know what’s coming. I spent a lot of time previewing before doing them.

Diane Sue, it sounds like you might be getting near the end of your therapy program. I remember those exercises well. You should feel very encouraged by your progress.

Valerie, nice job with the elliptical and XTrain Abs.

Hello to Judy.

Finished Meso 2 today. The leg workouts in that Meso are very fast paced. My lower back was being cranky, so for a few things I used my 10 lb vest and lowered my hand weights. Also ditched the last set of dead lifts.

Carolyn great job with Stacked Sets Upper Body and stretch. Cathe's live workouts are a mixed bag, as there are some that are really good, a few that I really didn't like and most fall in the middle. Definitely is an experiment to find what works. And I'm the complete opposite. I rarely ever preview workouts except for the brief clips. I just jump in.

Valerie great job with the elliptical and abs!

Diane Sue sounds like you are making good progress with your PT!

This morning I did the first part of a CDorner 70's 80's step workout finishing with the finale and stretch. This was 40 minutes, heart rate 109/127, 155 calories, 2,833 steps. We had our Tv cabinet show up at 6:30 this morning and a meeting to go to this afternoon so I did not have a lot of time to do the whole workout. I was hoping for fun music but it was pretty much disco type stuff which I do not care for.

This morning I did KCM’s Cardio Fit, cardio kickboxing premix. That was 21 minutes and 148 calories burned. Average heart rate was 132 and maximum heart rate 160. Then I did Jessica Smith’s 15 Minute Calorie Burst, 15 minutes, 119 calories, average heart rate 139 and maximum heart rate 170.

Cathy, nice job finishing Meso 2.

Diane Sue, great job with CDORNER Step. That was a very early furniture delivery!

Hello to Valerie and Judy.

I did the St. Paddy's LIVE today. What a fun workout! The cardio is pretty short, at 20 minutes you switch to the floor for core, but you could really look at the whole thing as a core workout. You use the stability ball for cardio, and the core is involved in a lot of the movements. I'd really consider this a cardio, core and shoulder workout because a lot of the cardio with the ball has shoulder involvement.

Diane Sue great job with the step workout! I was in high school during the heart of the disco period so it doesn't bother me. Not my favorite, but I don't mind it at all.

Carolyn great job with Cardio Fit!

I worked 7 hours at HD today so I took a rest day from working out.

Carolyn-Great job with the Cardiofit Premix and Jessica Smith's 15 minute Calorie Burst. I agree about Rock'm Sock'm being enough without the blizzard blast.

Diane Sue-Great job with your PT work and CDorner step! You are making awesome progress. That is really early for a furniture delivery!

Valerie-HD has been experiencing a lot of theft and it seems to be getting worse. I think it's mostly power tools they are after.
That's terrible about your car's gas line being cut.

Cathy-Great job finishing Meso 2 and doing the St. Paddy's LIVE workout!

Today I started with Kelly's Coffey's warm up clip from Cardio Fit, 5 minutes, 17 calories, 506 steps, heart rate 97/113. I had intended to just go on from there, but I had looked at the results and accidentally deleted it from my Garmin, so added it and started my watch up again. I did Walk Strong 3: Boogie IT, 30 minutes, 122 calories, 110/139 steps, 3,214 steps. I finished with Walk Strong 3 Total Stretch, 18 minutes, 39 calories, heart rate 83/101, 15 steps. Total workout time was 53 minutes, 178 calories, 3,735 steps.
I need to preview some workouts to find ones that are doable. Walk strong worked well for me today. I had to modify arm movement a bit. No overhead tricep stretch.

Valerie, that is awful about all of the thieves and cutting your gas line!! I just do not get the leniency that has come for these criminals. And why?? Makes no sense at all. I hope that your sister pays attention.
My PT really watches and has been noticing how well I have done and keeps moving further. He asked when I see the surgeon again. I think he was surprised how quickly I got through the 2# lateral raises. Really it felt pretty natural to me. It did make me sore though afterward. That would be expected. Glad I have been into fitness as this would be terribly hard otherwise.

Carolyn, I want to order those Kelly workouts. She has them on her Raw channel, but not the premixes. I thought maybe I could get into some premixes with the dvds. I like having those and that is why I buy dvds anyway. I just subscribe for a couple of months at a time myself. Once I subscribed to Cathe live for 6 months, but by the end of 6 months I was not using them much.

Cathy, Cathe does have some fun holiday workouts. Cathe does seem to swing the stability ball overhead and up and down when she uses it. It gets the heart rate up.

Judy, I hope you had a nice rest day today.
