I'm not sure I would have bailed. I love it in Montana. DH does the driving. friday the road was bare/dry and warm. the whole area, WA, ID, MT will get snow next 3 days with winter storm warnings. we either left or stayed until midway next week after things settle down. it's one thing to deal with "a" mountain pass. this involves more like 6 passes with other areas that involve long stretches of higher roadway that can be snowy/ icy for many miles. we usually avoid the risk and headache. temps in the minus numbers next week. ski/snowshoe isn't fun then especially if windy. We've done it before. you get all layered up, you can barely move. you need to get things just right. I save my energy for more moderate conditions.
it feels like spring here even though it will be cold. we have a lot of plants and bushes that bloom in february. going gangbusters. hellebores, sarcococca ( unbelievably fragrant bushes with tiny white flowers), witch hazel to name a few. daffodils are up mine aren't blooming yet. leaf buds are swollen. I will be planting some things this weekend. lettuce seedlings are outside already.
this is the time we find places to ski here. we haul a chain saw, do road clean up to get there. sometimes this is no big deal, others times the downed trees are too big or too many for us.
cathy that sounds like a rough workout. I don't do "dread factor" things for a long time now. that includes most HIIT. congrats on getting thru it!.
