Pentagenarians & Beyond: 12/29/2024

Sorry I have been missing. Things have been busy.
Yesterday I did Lift Move & Restore Barre + Bonus foam roller, 64 minutes, 160 calories, heart rate 94/136. I have not had as much time to get in a workout. That was it.
Today Since I was sore and really short on time I did CDorner Hiit Style Cardio Low Impact which was not really low impact. She was doing jacks and thrusters, mountain climbers, so I did my own thing on some moves or her suggested low impact move. This was 32 minutes, heart rate 141/162, 178 calories, 2,870 steps. I finished with Raw Yoga Stretch 15 minutes, 25 calories.
No workout tomorrow and Monday morning I am taking my dog to the vet

Today I did LMR Functional Lower Body for the first time. Liked this one. All those fire walker versions are likely going to be felt tomorrow.

Valerie have fun finding all the missing ping pong balls. I need to go on a hunt again. I think I still have a few from a pack I bought last year if we get really low. I know there are ping pong balls stuck in out of the way places because I wouldn't have had to buy at least two 6 packs so far. I think we were up to 7 found last time I did a major search but were back down to 2 again. Depending on where you live these days Vegan is actually quite easy. Non-dairy cheeses have come soooo far these days, personally I think that's a bad thing. LOL Where Nick is in Fort Worth there are a number of vegan restaurants, and place that have vegan food. Harder to track down here in Mid-Michigan, but we so very rarely eat out. And if you are eating really clean vegan you mainly just need a store with good produce, and a selection of grains, beans, and pasta. Derek's at the opposite end from Nick for options and from what I've found only the Walmart there has vegan alternatives. He's probably been to Walmart more times since he got there than at any time in his life all together. Yeah I clearly slacked off on how diligent I am when it comes to bugs, but I'm also pretty sure this one is from DH, which is harder to avoid.

Weight loss drugs are crazy expensive and with some of them there is a definite limit to how much weight you will lose, but if you stop taking them, the weight comes back. Mainly people aren't willing to change their diets and want to have weight loss with no change.

Diane Sue, I haven't done the Barre workout yet. Looking forward to trying it.

Shannon hopefully getting a replacement will make the other one magically appear.

Judy I'm jealous, we only had a few periods of decent sunshine, stayed mostly cloudy.

Hi Carolyn.

This morning I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga Morning Energy for 18 minutes. Saturday I intended to do a lower body workout, but things didn’t work out and I didn’t get anything done. It’s hard to fit in my workouts while we have house guests.

Diane Sue, great job with LMR Barre + Bonus Foam Roller, CDorner HiiT Style Cardio Low Impact, and Raw Yoga Stretch. I haven’t tried the LMR Barre yet.

Cathy, great job with LMR Functional Lower Body.

Hello to Judy, Valerie, and Shannon.

Hi, ladies. I hope everyone is having a nice Sunday. I went to town this morning and got that out of the way. I figured I’d do it today while things are still so wet outside and then enjoy time outside over the next few days. Let me tell you, Sunday morning when everyone is at church is definitely the time to hit Walmart. Now I’m getting ready to do some sort of yoga-ish DVD. Not sure what though.

Valerie – Yes ma’am, HRT is definitely a lifesaver. I’m glad you got some relief when you needed it too. Have you tried a knee brace to give your knee a little extra support? I know you’re looking at a replacement soon though.

Judy – What a beautiful day for a walk yesterday. I’m glad you were able to get out and enjoy it. Probably better than the walking pad, right?

Diane – It’s good to “see” you again. I hope all is well.

Cathy – I bought a new wrist wrap today. Let’s see how long it takes for the old one to turn up. Yeah, you will definitely be feeling those firewalker exercises. I sure did.

Carolyn – It’s okay to miss a workout or two when you have guests. They are worth it! At least I hope they are.

we did the park walk this morning before the rain moved in. it was not sunny but mild and dripping a little. takes about 75 minutes. then shopping on the way home.
visited with our neighbors yesterday. they have 3 carts and had some good ideas about what works. their cats love the scratch boards made of cardboard just like the circular one with the balls. I cant get him interested in that one but I use it to block loose balls from rolling under the TV where the cords are. I ordered some of the plain cardboard scratch boards because his claws are growing out and he could be hard on furniture. he likes the plain balls that go everywhere, or the motorized one. I think I posted this already but this is the amazon link.

this thing is genius. who can tell what will appeal to a cat???? we are planning on keeping him, he hasnt done anything else destructive and DH is warming up to him. he is very energetic. especially with catnip.

will be dealing with a plumbing project tomorrow, they get here about 8.

I probablywould not be a happy vegan. the dairy I'd miss the most. I'm not giving it up. I never missed meat. never liked it . for a long time we didnt eat chicken but its not a big thing in my diet so I eat some and dont worry about it. backpacking actually got us to add chicken back in because for long trips canned chicken survived no refrigeration while a lot of other things did not. even hard cheese doesnt travel well for days in a backpack.

Today I did 50 minutes of Peloton rides and 45 minutes of PT work/stretching.

Diane Sue-Great job with LMR Barre + Bonus Foam Roller, CDorner Cardio, and the Raw stretch.

Cathy-Great job with LMR Functional Lower Body. It’s been raining all day here. I’m glad that I got out yesterday when I had a chance.

Carolyn-Great job with Jane Adams Gentle Yoga Morning Energy. It is hard to fit workouts in when you have guests.

Shannon-It was really nice to walk outside. I like the walking pad but it’s definitely not the same as being outside in the sun.

Valerie-Great job with your park walk. That toy looks great. I might have to order one. I think Shadow would love it.

Well, that was the most monumentally boring yoga session I’ve ever done. Rodney Yee’s Strength Building Yoga. You’d have to be practically dead to actually build strength from that routine. Way too much time in child’s pose. I quit early. Probably won’t do it again.

Judy I think any cat would love that toy. I didnt know what I was getting until I charged it up and turned it on! what a surprise! I was laughing out loud while it bounced around the room. I thought Puss would like the circular track with the balls but he doesn't do much with it. maybe that will change, cats change their minds regularly. I cant get him going on the cardboard scratch pad either.

Today I did My Finished Step Combos, the SB Bonus Abs and STS 2. Today will be last minute stuff to get things ready for Nick.

Valerie, DH buys the replacement scratching circles by the box. Mopsy is much to enthusiastic a scratcher and opens up holes in them. He's the only one who mainly uses that for scratching. Others prefer the sisal wrapped around the cat trees. Chester is the only one of our four who cares about catnip. He's a junkie. Flopsy will sometimes go for it, but her preferred method is eating it, which is just weird. We have some catnip that grows wild by our porch, and that it Chester's favorite. Have you tried a sisal scratching post? Both are cat trees are rather ragged now, so we got just a tall sisal scratcher and two of them really like that. They are all very individual in their likes. Hoping the plumbing goes well today.

Shannon sorry the yoga workout was a bust. I've tried a few different ones and it's way too easy for me to be bored with most of them. While oddly, I'm good with most any long stretching video. I've never understood it.

Judy does the PT work seem to be helping you?

Carolyn enjoy your time with family, your workouts will be more consistent again when they leave.

Hi Diane Sue.

Im starting with the cardboard ones. our neighbor said the wavy ones are her cats' favorites so I got a couple flat and a couple wavy. want to get him in habit of cardboard not furniture. trying to figure what he likes. sisal is next. looks like that has replaced carpet.

I have quite a few yoga workouts and none are favorites. . cathe earlier ones worked better than most. they're too hard usually, plus I took a class for ages and that was fun and pleasant. I didnt like Yin much. I could not sit still that long though the poses were fine. she had us stay 3 minutes. I was good with 2 but not 3. felt too long. went to half a dozen classes but got tired of yin. I liked the regular classes a lot and would have continued except they closed the practice,

Cathy-Yes, I think the PT work is helping quite a bit. It feels much better than it did last month. I had a little set back when I did lower body strength with heavier weights last week but I recovered from that quickly. The other possibility is that getting away from Home Depot (I've only worked one 6 hour shift in the past 4 weeks) is why it's improving. I have a 6 hour shift coming up this weekend so I will see how it feels after that.

Today I did Rev’d Up Rumble, 41 minutes and 312 calories burned. My average heart rate was 139 and maximum heart rate was 181. I’m not worried about missing some of my workouts and I’m very grateful to have time with my children. We‘ve had a really nice Christmas visit.

Shannon, I’m sorry about the yoga dvd. I couldn’t get motivated to do Rodney Yee’s yoga. I had a couple but they were not for me. I think that Strength dvd has 2 yoga practices, one for strength and one for stretching. The long child’s pose sounds like stretching.

Valerie, nice job with the park walk. I’m glad that the new kitten is adjusting better.

Judy, great job with the Peloton rides and PT/stretching.

Cathy, great job with your Finished Step Combos and SB Bonus Abs.

Hello to Diane Sue.

Good evening, ladies. I hope you all had a good day. I did LMR – Functional Upper and Functional Lower, and managed to cut enough off to get the workout right at an hour. I stopped Lower at the point where she starts doing firewalkers, and I stopped Upper where she does the leaning lateral raise, where she kneels and extends one leg to the side. That particular exercise seriously hurts my shoulder (my left one can be rather contrary), so I figured it was the perfect place to stop. So yay, I have another total body workout!

Valerie – I’m so glad you’re going to keep your kitty. Sometimes it can be tough to adjust to a new pet. It took me a while to warm up to Sara too, especially since I hadn’t planned on getting another dog when Sunny died. Speaking of Sara, I wonder what she would think about that cat toy. She’s a tiny, 12 lb. Chihuahua mix. I’m very tempted to buy one and find out! How did your plumbing project go?

Judy – Has the rain stopped? It’s been raining a lot here too. I thought we were done, but today was just plain icky. No rain, but a very, very, wet, drippy fog. It might as well be rain. Nice work on your ride and PT. Let us know how your leg feels after your shift at Home Depot.

Cathy – I’m envious of your Finished Step Combos. That sounds like so much fun. Yeah, I’m finding that this time around, yoga just doesn’t get it for me. I used to love it and then stopped doing it. I figured I need to get that sort of thing back into my life, but true yoga isn’t working. Oh well. I’ll do Cathe’s LMR Mobility!

Carolyn – Gosh, I haven’t thought of Amy Bento in a long time. I think she was Amy Ross during Rev’d Up Rumble, right? You are right about Rodney’s Strength DVD. But even the second section, which was standing poses, bored me to tears.

Hello to Diane.

today is ending up as a day off. the plumbing people were here at 8. they pulled out the old tub and the hookups and installed new ones. also new hook ups for the sink since old ones were immovable. its a big deal to get the drain on the tub just right. apparently each tub is specific and there is no standard hook up. when they pulled the old tub out, there was a tone of debris underneath it. the cardboard from three 12 packs of beer, 3 cans and a cigarette butt plus some bits of plaster etc. so apparently the plumber needed to get half in the bag to do his job..... no wonder we had numerous plumbing issues! this was left from the original construction 35 years ago.

I have never owned a small dog so I cant even guess if they would like a toy like that. if they like to chase things, maybe. this cat loves to chase anything, balls especially. DH is softening a little since he knows I want to keep the kitty. we think he will be an indoor outdoor cat. he is extremely fast and he will eventually get past one of us and outside. we are letting him get into the garage now, and he is right there underfoot if theres a chance in a million to get there. I didnt want to do any outdoor but I would rather he get familiar with our house and yard and learn he can go in and out and where the doors are and that the deck is usually a safe place. we do not have a cat door. will see how this goes.

Just finished Lite Body Weight and Bands. Nick is at DFW and his flight leaves in under an hour. He always stresses me out on days he's flying here because he's not the best communicator.

Valerie that's crazy what they found under the tub.

Shannon I get bored doing step with all the breakdowns. LOL So, I put together a couple workouts that only do the finished combos. I always wished she'd do another step in the pattern of Rhythmic Step as that is a nice long one.

This morning I did LMR Functional Lower Body. My time was 56 minutes with 186 calories burned. Average heart rate was 107 and maximum heart rate was 152.

Shannon, great job with your Functional Lower Body and Functional Upper Body mix. It sounds like you have just what you wanted for a total body workout. Rev’d Up Rumble that I did yesterday is from Cathe’s LiTE series. I remember Amy Bento Ross but I never did any of her workouts.

Valerie, it’s great that the plumbers got your new tub installed.

Cathy, great job with LiTE Body Weight and Bands. Hopefully Nick will have a smooth flight home.

Hello to Diane Sue and Judy.

Happy New Year’s Eve, everyone. I don’t know about you, but I’m not staying up until midnight, LOL. I just finished Ilaria Montagnani’s, Bodystrike 3. I haven’t done that one in a long time. It’s highly repetitive. It takes as much mental discipline as physical for me to get through it sometimes, but it’s been probably over a year since I did it last, so it was kind of fun for a change.

Valerie – wow, that’s a major plumbing project. I hope all is will with the new tub and stuff. My parents have always had indoor/outdoor cats, and they don’t have a cat door either. We live in a very rural area, and so far the cats have always been safe from wildlife. Unfortunately one of the dogs has gotten a hold of one of them though. Best of luck with your kitty.

Cathy – Hopefully by now Nick is safe and sound at home. You would not enjoy Bodystrike. Lots of breakdowns. Whew. Yes, Rhythmic Step was awesome. I also loved Party Rockin’ Step 1.

Carolyn – Oh yes, sorry about that. Amy has a workout that’s just called Rumble. I had to check. I never did it, although I had a few of her step workouts.

Hello to Judy and Diane. Have a great evening, everyone, whatever you do!

We are rural and have seen cougars, bobcats and coyotes on our trail cam in the wilder part of our yard. we've set the camera other places and saw nothing but deer. there is a still risk. our other cats all made it through being outside ok. we make sure they are in at night when more wild things are out but a little outdoor experience is better than none. this guy is so fast and so determined, I think it will happen regardless of how careful we are. we see neighbor cats on our trail cam regularly too and they are all surviving so far. running into one of them is a risk too. cats dont all get along.
DH's medical things all morning, so I did driving and sitting. too cold to ride so I will do something else.

will make something nice for dinner and go to bed before the local idiots start blowing up everything. wish it was limited to professional displays but its not. booms have been going off for weeks already.

I made this recipe off Skinny Taste. Damn it is good! recipe for stuffed shells that is basically lasagne except stuffed in shells rather than in layers. she adds 2 TB of pesto sauce to the cheese mixture. a winner! I use Rao's marinara sauce, and a mixture of either cottage cheese or ricotta, with cooked spinach, parm, an egg, and now a little pesto. I used about 3/4 the jar of sauce, not the whole thing. pesto adds a lot of flavor for minimal effort. stuffing the shells was not as hard as I thought. it was a great NYE dinner. Happy New Year everyone!.

Oh I forgot to mention Stray. Yea, that’s his name. He is a stray cat who refuses to be adopted. He showed up at my parents’ house a few years ago. Mom feeds him whenever he’s around. Then he’ll disappear for days or weeks, and show up again. He’s survived whatever is out there, including sub freezing temperatures and a fairly deep snow for here. Cats are true survivors for sure.
