diane sue yes, this is cataract surgery. first eye was done this week. other eye is first week in Dec. I was 20/30 the day after surgery . its such a well known and refined procedure, very few problems and most people are very happy with the results. the long distance correction is standard. being able to see close and read without reader glasses is the benefit of upgrading the lens from the usual one Medicare covers. to a more expensive lens. no guarantee but because my close vision was good before the surgery, the doc thinks this will be successful and I will be able to see small print without reader glasses. I hope! I have no clue if this applies to most people. because I didnt need major vision correction this should work. its similar to "monovision" where one eye is corrected for distance and the other is focused on closer work. I can read ok even now. I probably wont end up at 20/15 like a lot of folks do, but Im fine with that.
