Pentagenarians & Beyond 1/30

This morning I did Rockout Knockout, a premix with kickboxing cardio and kickboxing combos. That was 43 minutes with 269 calories burned. My average heart rate was 123 and maximum heart rate was 155.

Cathy, I’m glad that your son made it to work and back without any mishaps. I can remember a couple of those ice storms when we lived in Texas. We were stuck once and an 8 hour trip took 13 hours. We had 2 young children at the time and were traveling back to San Antonio from Louisiana. No one expected snow and ice coated roads in south Texas during those days. Now I’m not surprised by any kind of weather regardless of location.

Hello to Valerie, Judy, and Diane Sue.

Well I was sleeping nicely when I got a text from Nick at 6:09! He got scheduled to work today, Saturday and Sunday 7-3, but at the closest hospital. Close being 19 miles away. He did say if it was too bad he'd go back home and call in. But, no he went and got back. It's going to refreeze overnight. And I really didn't need him tell me he had a decent fishtail. So the next two mornings, I'll just set my alarm for 6.

I did do Disk 9 Legs today. Like last week, I was feeling it afterwards, but I didn't the next day, so we'll see what tomorrow brings. I did do another small round of shoveling. It's to the point where I could turn my car around up by the garage and squeeze out, but I'm not planning to go anywhere soon. OTOH DH's coffee maker has died and he wants to get another one. He'll have to do a bit more shoveling to do that. We have a turn around, and in the more than 20 years we've been here, I've never back out of the drive. We are part way down a hill and you can't easily see things coming over at you. Our drive only has cement up by the garage. The rest did have limestone, but it's mostly gone and it's goes downhill. Not as long as Valerie's but long enough.

Valerie sorry your hiking plans are still getting sidelined by the weather, but great that you were able to put together a good varied workout yesterday!

Today I did P30 Perfect Pump Upper Body. My time was 37 minutes and 182 calories burned. Average heart rate was 117 and maximum heart rate was 146.

Cathy, it’s the job of young adult children to keep their parents in stress mode! Nice job with disc 9 Legs.

Waving hello to Judy, Valerie, and Diane Sue.

Cathy it's an important lesson...learning how to drive on slippery stuff under reasonably controlled conditions. . I STILL remember the first timer I hit really slick ice. I was going very slowly already but it was so slippery it didnt matter. I steered into the skid as I slid side to side, just like I'd been told to do. It worked, I stopped without losing control but it was close and a very memorable reality check. best learned by practicing skills. DH and I have driven in bad conditions many times since but that was the one I remember. a sobering lesson to feel the car sliding like a toboggan! its a reason why this area is such a disaster when it occasionally snows. most people have no experience and have no clue what to do. all cockiness goes away in about 2 seconds when the car starts sliding.

we hiked this morning. a local park that was surprisingly challenging. lots of up/downhill , the same up/down footage over and over again. not very interesting but a reasonable workout, 1 hr 45 min. not raining and should be dry for much of the week. we were hoping this park would be Ok for mt biking. it's set up for kids/punks who get a ride to the top of the hill, then ride down as fast as possible, then get hauled back up again. not the riding we enjoy. hiking trails were mostly separated from riding. hiking was ok but not interesting and heard freeway traffic constantly.

no workout yesterday. getting my hair cut today, and maybe an upper body workout later.

I did Live 40/20 Low Impact Hiit this morning. That's a good and very varied workout. There are 54 different exercises!

Valerie I still remember my first time on ice, too. I was in high school and once I had access to an extra vehicle I would go in early on basketball game nights to warm up for cheering. Still not sure how the road conditions had changed so much since I'd gone home from school, but I was just going along and bam, realized I was on ice. Fortunately it wasn't a terribly long stretch and I was able to just slow down and ease across it. Got to the school and felt sick to my stomach. When my parents got there, they LAUGHED and pointed out it was because of the ice. And they were right. Once I knew why, my stomach settled back down. The biggest stress with Nick driving on the really bad roads was that if something happens to him or the car, we've got big issues. By the time he went home today the roads were mostly clear and going to get another couple hours of sun and 40's. Going to continue to freeze at night for a few more days there.
Sounds like you got in a good hike this morning, though I agree hearing traffic noise is not a plus.

Carolyn nice job with P30 PP Upper Body. And yes, every time I think I can relax for a few days the boys manage to throw something new at me!
