Pentagenarians & Beyond: 02/23/2025

Both my calfs were feeling tight this morning so I opted to do Stretch Max with the band and Restorative Yoga. And I'd like to say that all that work with the balance disc probably aided me this morning when I turned around and tripped over Mopsy who was right behind me. LOL I only flailed around a bit but stayed on my feet. Though it also probably helps that I've done that move any number of times in my life!

Valerie I'll have to ask him how he did the layers. I've certainly done 5 on top, but lower would need some of the layers to be thinner, like layers of leggings. It's already 25 there today and they are headed for 50. I'd like to see 50!

Good morning. I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga, Morning Energy practice for 18 minutes. This is definitely more of a standing mobility and balance workout than yoga. Yesterday was a rest day.

Diane Sue, nice job with Raw Lower Lift and Kick, LMR Lower Body foam rolling, LMR Pilates Fusion timesaver, Gloved Up and Sweaty, and Raw Stretch and Flow. I’m glad that your new boxing gloves are comfortable.

Cathy, great job with Crushed It Low Impact and LiTE Stacked Sets Lower Body, Stretch Max, and Restorative Yoga. The free downloads seem to be a great motivator for presale purchases.

Judy, great job with 45 minute Peloton walk, 20 minutes of Peloton Strength, and 20 minutes of restorative yoga.

Valerie, great job with 30 minutes of spinning, therapy work, and curls.

Have a good day everyone.

the three layers I can think of is fitted long johns, fleece layer on top followed by a windblock layer of "nylon-like" breathable material. No cotton anywhere. that outer layer should be waterproof breathable. if any layer traps moisture it will get the other layers damp and you will feel cold. those layers should be usable for lots of outdoor activities. costs depend on shopping outlets nearby. DH has really nice winter warm pants from costco that cost $25. they arent as nice as the REI version but we dont do serious things anymore. when i see people hiking in jeans i'm horrified. if jeans get wet they will never dry. sorry, mountaineer training again. if something goes wrong and you are stuck outside in cold wet weather, your clothing will make or break the situation. upper body is easier. same thing, no cotton. I like synthetics, cannot stand wool. base layer, something insulating, and a waterproof breathable layer on top. Puffies are fine but you want to avoid sweating if possible. okay lecture over!.

walking the yard today for exercise and some therapy work. i do toe raises and balances as part of therapy.

Just finished Intensity Pyramid Upper Body no abs. I matched her on all but one weight. I also have difficulty holding a 20 lb weight at the ends, so I had to use it in the other position. Not safe with my little hands otherwise.

Valerie I don't know as he never specified his layers. I do know that they give all employees a really nice winter coat to wear. Unlike our local zoo where they just get T-shirts, this zoo gives them a T-shirt, sweatshirt and the coat. I know long ago when I was doing outdoor rounds at the wildlife rehab center, I'd wear up to 5 layers on top, but less on the bottom. I generally piled on a ton of sweatshirts, but that was 30 years ago and not a lot of options were available or affordable back then. At least not around here. I know that he's trying to avoid spending much right now because he had to spend a lot getting all the stuff for his apartment and all. Getting a neck gaiter and good socks helped a lot.

I had an appointment this morning and didn’t get to work out.

Cathy, great job with Intensity Pyramid Upper Body.

Valerie, toe raises are included in the Morning Energy practice that I do.

Hello to Judy, Diane Sue, and Shannon.

back from cardiology appt and will see if the changes made help. I'm optimistic because I dont feel a lot of jumps in heart rate which is good.

I live in a very wet climate especially in the mountains. if you get wet, you cant stroll inside to dry off or change clothes. most people have what they're wearing and some extra layers for resting or rain or wind. getting your clothes or skin wet are the thing that makes you cold. your body tries to evaporate the water/sweat. it takes a lot of energy to change liquid water to vapor. breathable fabrics wick the moisture off the skin quickly and allow it to evaporate without your skin doing the job. it takes a LOT to evaporate water from cotton. its comfortable against the skin but deadly outdoors if you have no way to get dry. its why warm jackets like down puffies can work against you if they are too warm for what you're doing and you get sweaty. sweat is water. if your son can always go inside or jump in the car, then its not going to matter that much. If youre a couple hours from your car or get injured, then it matters a lot more. clothes are much better than they used to be. used to be wool army surplus stuff! heavy ugly and itchy.

I dont like holding dumbbells by the ends either. a slip could be disastrous.

Hi ladies. I just wanted to let you know that I won’t be around much this week. I have some big projects that require overtime. I should probably get back to work after I do the dishes. Maybe I can stop by at the end of the week. Have fun with your workouts!

Today I did Lift Move and Restore Upper Body 41 minutes, 149 calories followed by raw Yoga Stretch 15 minutes, 42 calories. 56 minutes, 191 calories. My husband is off so he put my TV up on the wall for me.
I have been working at clearing out workout logs and papers I have kept over the years. I had some pages printed from Cathe forum in 2001 where she had given workout advice. Also looked at some of my weights I was lifting and know that will never happen again. Funny years ago I had put notes on shoulders and pain. I guess it has all been brewing many years. I am tossing all of that stuff. I was filling a box with printouts. Kept the stuff I have from CL and more recent stuff.

Carolyn, nice work on Sunday's Morning Energy.

Cathy, nice job on Pyramid Upper Body and matching Cathe's weights.

Valerie, hopefully the cardiology appointment took care of the problem. Holding dumbbells from the ends makes my wrists hurt.

Shannon, I hope the big projects go well this week.

Yesterday I did a 45-minute Peloton ride. The temperatures have gone up so much that I'm going to try to get outside for my workout today. It's supposed to get up to 50 this afternoon.

Cathy-Great job with Stretch Max & Restorative Yoga and Intensity Pyramid Upper Body no abs. I agree about holding a 20 lb dumbbell by the ends.

Carolyn-Great job with Jane Adams Gentle Yoga, Morning Energy practice.

Valerie-Great job with walking and therapy work.

Diane Sue-Great job with LMR Upper Body and Raw Stretch.

Hi to Shannon

Just finished P30 Lower Body. I swapped the dead lifts for the bonus exercises on the floor. Then I did my own stretching while they stretched, since I wanted to focus more on certain areas. Got started much later than usual. First I forgot to set an alarm and didn't wake up in time for an early workout, then DH had a work webinar on that was actually really interesting and I got sucked into watching that until they started the Q&A. He's in Environmental Quality, but it was a MI Dept of Transportation presentation on their roadside maintenance program. Talked about their pollinators program, and pest/invasive species control. Explained why they aren't able to get rid of some of the invasive stuff. Mowing schedules that work around local nesting and animals that live along roadsides. I was really happy when they started doing the pollinator program because it means you get long stretches of sunflowers/wildflowers in the medians.

Valerie I hope that this adjustment gets everything right for you. Depends on which area Derek is working in as to how much he can escape the cold. The farmyard area has a few small barns, but the wilderness area the animals only have shelters because they are all from places with extremely cold winters: bison, elk, big horn sheep... Out there they only have their covered cart that they drive around. I've never got the feeling that sweating was an issue. I don't think the work is consistently strenuous enough for that.

Diane Sue, I'm terrible about keeping records of workouts. I wish that the workout manager was set up in such a way that you could go back and see things, but it only maintains what you lifted the most recent time. I do have memories though for specific things in STS.

Hi Carolyn, Judy and Shannon.

Good morning. Today I did LMR Functional Upper Body, timesaver #2. My time was 40 minutes with 202 calories burned. My average heart rate was 108 and maximum heart rate was 133. I kept my weights on the light side and it seemed okay for my biceps and triceps. The side to side goblet move caused some discomfort so I skipped it.

Valerie, it’s great that the adjustment seems to be working.

Diane Sue, great job with LMR Upper Body and Raw Yoga Stretch. It interesting to look back at my old workout logs and read my notes about the workouts.

Judy, great job with the 45 minute Peloton ride. Getting outside for your workout sounds like a good idea.

Cathy, great job with P 30 Lower Body.

Hello to Shannon.

I think they got it done on the heart rate adjustment. I dont want to be too quick to judge but I have felt much less unhinged since then. its just weird when your heart rate is way faster than what it should be for what you are doing. makes me feel anxious and uneasy. its been better since yesterday. its a sort of unusual problem for them to resolve.
now, believe it or not, my back is bothering me again. no idea what might have happened because i haven't done anything except walk, ride spin bike. hopefully some minor muscle strain but I really dont need that now.

I never liked doing the heavier single dumbbell especially when cathe goes really heavy like 30's or 35's. I dont like looking up at that thing over my face. . I feel stronger and less uneasy with two lighter dumbbells. I dont try to match her weight. the 12's i have are very thick in the handle. i find two 15's easier to manage although I havent gone that heavy in a while now.

cathy if they are driving around in a enclosed cart they are not likely getting to the sweaty stage! its less trouble if you go outside and stay there so you can dress for consistent conditions.

Judy get outside if its nice enough. it will be nice after all this time indoors.

we are settling in with the cat now. his behavior is better and we will try another drug trial tonight into tomorrow. if we cant get him sedated enough he will have to spend kennel time.

I havent kept track of workouts for a long time now. I used to keep records on a calendar but now I dont bother.

Today I did CDorner Power Step #450 29 minutes, 198 calories, 4,050 steps, heart rate 139/183, followed by Cathe 2023 Killer Legs, 45 minutes, 220 calories, heart rate 113/138. I finished with Raw stretch finisher(Lower focused) and CDorner upper stretch day 2, 30 minutes, 78 calories. Total time was 104 minutes, 496 calories. I am not sure how I managed to burn that many calories today. O burned a lot with the power step before though.

Cathy, I am always thrown off when my planned day is messed up. That happened to me yesterday getting started late, then husband came in starting to set up the wall mount for my tv, so stopped to get a tool for him, restarted, then my dog decided to come in and join us. I finished, but my watch somehow turned off before I was done so had to restart. I rushed the stretching even though my husband left and said let him know when I was done so he could mount the TV I was using. I like having it on the wall. It freed up some space. When I did CL I wrote everything out as I did the workouts so the next time, I would know the moves. Someone else gave me a list that had descriptions, so I have hung onto those. Only goes to around 300 workouts, I think.

Carolyn, nice job on LMR Upper Body Timesaver #2. Is the side to side goblet the up and over move? That one I was careful with.

Valerie, I hope your back gets better. You have been so careful with everything. Cathe uses some very heavy weights in some of her workouts. I used to be able to keep up, but it is not happening anymore.

Today I did the premix that is IMAX 4 Combos and the bonus abs, then I did Lower/Upper Balance Discs. The weather app and radar show it's raining here right now. NO that's snow. Snow and 38 degrees. LOL At least this won't be staying.

Diane Sue, I went back and looked at the workout calendar from like 2009-10. I used to log all my workouts in there and like I thought, the STS workouts only show the weights from my last workouts. It's interesting to see what I was doing back then though.

Valerie yay! I'm glad that you got your pacemaker adjusted properly. It sounds like a very frustrating situation to be in. For a lot of moves that she uses 25 lbs or more for, I opt for using a barbell instead, but that doesn't work for everything. But, I'll do that for squats, tricep extensions and pullovers. I can use the heavier weights for one arm lat work, and plie squats. Though for plie squats I do put the dumbbell on the high step with a riser or two so I don't have to go so low to grab it.

Hi Carolyn, Judy and Shannon.

its such a relief to get heart rate settled down. its ok now. I dont get all compulsive about checking it all the time. the speed up was happening hundreds of times a day so it was very frustrating. pacers think everyone has a heart rate of 70, but they dont. didnt do anything yesterday. somehow developed this back discomfort but that is getting better. it came up about a week ago and is taking a long time to settle down. i can finally take showers. its a deep incision probably a good 2 inches long so they want it dry. if the bandage doesnt fall off soon they will take it off next visit. Man.....I am so tired of being "sick".

planned to walk the park this morning but wr tried more meds on the kitty and not only did they not work, he opened the zipper to his car carrier and walked up to the front seat while we were driving. he must have gotten a lucky claw in the zipper pull because it was a total surprise. so we bailed on that idea, did grocery shopping and drove back home. we rode the neighborhood on mt bikes later today. 40 minutes. will do therapy work soon too.
back is getting better. no clue what I did to irritate it.

This morning I did JS Stride and Step, 30 minutes, 182 calories burned, average heart rate 126, and maximum heart rate 154.

Valerie, that’s good news about the adjustment. I’m sorry that your back is bothering you now.

Diane Sue, good job with CDorner Power Step, Killer Legs, Raw Stretch Finisher, and CDorner upper stretch. The up and over is is standing, but there is a similar move lying down. I went light with the standing version, but the lying down was more uncomfortable. That’s the one that I stopped after a couple of reps.

Cathy, good job with IMAX combos and Lower/Upper Balance Discs.

Hello to Judy and Shannon.

Yesterday I did a 45-minute walk outside. It was so nice to get some sun and warmer temps. It’s back to rain/snow and in the 30’s now so I’m very glad that I was able to get out when it was nice. Today I did a 30-minute Peloton Run/Walk and 15 minutes of rowing. The rest of this week is going to be busy with work and appointments so I might not be posting again until the weekend.

Cathy-Great job with P30 Lower Body, the IMAX 4 Combos, bonus abs, and Lower/Upper Balance Discs.

Carolyn-Great job with LMR Functional Upper Body and JS Stride & Step. That lying up and over move looks like it would be uncomfortable. I will probably go very light when I do that one.

Valerie-I hope your back feels better soon. I’m glad your heart rate adjustment worked.

Diane Sue-Great job with CDorner Power Step #450, Cathe 2023 Killer Legs and the stretches. I definitely can’t keep up with Cathe’s weights anymore, especially on upper body.

Hi to Shannon

Today I did Lift Move Restore Functional Mobility Fusion, 47 minutes, 154 calories, heart rate 95/133. I had planned on doing LMR Core, but we went to pick up our tax stuff. I thought a slower day would be a good choice. I probably will not work out Friday as I have an appointment with my arthritis doctor.

Cathy, good job on the premix of I Max 4 combos & bonus abs, and lower upper body balance discs. I used to put my workouts in the workout manager even when they were not Cathe workouts. I never went back there to check if the info was there. Interesting that it does not save the stats.

Valerie, I hope everything health wise gets better soon. I would go nuts not being able to shower that long. Nice work on getting a bike ride in today.

Carolyn, nice job on JS step and Stride today. Yes, the lying one is another that I have to be careful with. I sometimes get cramps in my biceps and triceps at odd angles. It has been strange that I started having the cramping.

Judy, good job on the 45 minute walk outside yesterday and today getting in a 30 minute Peloton Run/Walk and 15 minutes of rowing. It is the time of year with ups and downs in weather. At least it was above freezing when it snowed. Hopefully you have some warm weather coming.

Hi, ladies. The big project is done! Monday and Tuesday I basically put in an extra day's work in overtime, working 24 hours in two days. Then I had an extra 1.5 hours yesterday and finished the project yesterday afternoon. I stopped work each day so I could exercise, shower and eat. Then I hopped back on the computer. Now I need to get caught up on my other stuff. I hope everyone is doing well. I'll get back into personals tomorrow. Have a great day!
