Pentagenarians & Beyond: 02/16/2025

This morning I did LMR Core and Lower/Upper Balance Discs. I had help with core as Flopsy and Tux decided to lay on either side of me. When I did Windshield Wipers, I learned that when she gets bopped with the ball, Flopsy moves and lays just off the mat, but Tux? Does not care. Every time the ball came down and I deliberately put some pressure on him, he just laid there. Stopped me from getting a bit more range of motion, but wasn't worth stopping and repositioning myself.

Judy you must be getting more than us this time. Our over prediction is 2-4" and when I look at the more detailed stuff, it looks like we'll get closer to the 2". And then some pretty cold days, though since I know judge my cold by Derek's our 2 degree nights don't look that bad. LOL He's at work right now and it's -8 real feel -13. Go him. They may get windchills down to -55 during this cold period. But a week from now there going to be getting warm and have days around 50. They seem to get these weather patterns of here freeze to death, and now you get to be warm and wear sweatshirts. I hope you can get something arranged to do shorter shifts.

Shannon does your Mom's cat not hunt and take care of the mice? Our house would never have mice, except for the ones that come in through the pet door. I just knocked on wood because it's only happened once in the last 6 months or so. I'm very handy with a net, and I have live traps that work really well. But, I've caught not just mice, but also chipmunks. Chipmunks are so much harder those suckers are fast and bouncy. I had one trapped in the bathroom one time, and it lost its mind. Finally caught it and got it out though. Birds are rare but have also been brought it. The weirdest is frogs. One night, we're talking 3 a.m. I was pulling out the fridge to rescue and release a green frog. And then one time Derek found a small frog in his bedroom window. Only way that thing could have gotten in, was by cat carrier. I'm also in charge of all buzzy creature releases. LOL Those are generally the easiest. It sounds like you have a good workout rotation planned. I hope it works out.

Diane Sue Verizons payment set drives me crazy. The way they make adjustments always has me doing mental gymnastics. I hope your problem is all take care of now. It's not always easy to get hold of a real person, but it sure makes things go more smoothly when you can. Years ago Verizon had way better help available. Enjoy your family gathering.

Hi Valerie and Carolyn.

Good afternoon. This morning I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga, Morning Energy practice which was 18 minutes. We had early morning storms with a lot of rain around 4:00 a.m., but the really high winds skipped us. The storms were over by 7:00 and it turned out to be a nice day.

Shannon, great job with cooking and cleaning and working in some yoga. Your LMR rotation looks like a good plan.

Judy, great job with 45 minutes of Peloton full body strength, 5 minutes of core, and 30 minutes stretching.

Diane Sue, great job with CDorner Step Aerobics, LMR Pilates timesaver, STS 2 Total Body Giant Sets, LMR Upper Body foam rolling, and Raw Yoga Stretch. The food for your family dinner sounds yummy. German Chocolate is my husband’s request for his birthday cake every year.

Cathy, nice job with LMR Core and Upper/Lower Balance Discs.

Hello to Valerie.

Today I did a 45-minute Peloton Ride, JS Gentle Yoga for Back Pain Prevention and 15 minutes of Peloton Mobility. We didn’t get as much snow as was predicted but it did snow a lot overnight and in the morning. We stayed home all day.

Cathy-Great job with LMR Core and Lower/Upper Balance Discs. Nice that you have Flopsy and Tux to help with your workouts. We probably got about 2-3 inches of snow. Definitely not as much as was in the forecast, but enough to make driving treacherous.

Carolyn-Great job with Jane Adams Gentle Yoga, Morning Energy practice.

Diane Sue-Great job with CDorner Step, LMR Pilates timesaver, STS 2 Total Body Giant Sets, LMR Upper Body foam rolling, and Raw Yoga Stretch.

Hi to Shannon & Valerie

Today I did C&W step premix. Have to go old school with the DVD on that one, because you can't stream the premix. Not sure why since they clearly had it set up on the disc to chapter that way. Then I did Lite PP Upper Body. Darn Tux was laying on my mat, right in my way and kept snagging me with his claws. I finally took the stability ball and roll it into and a couple times over him, and finally after the 4th time, he went and got in the chair and he's been asleep ever since. That old let sleeping dogs lie, goes double + for Tux. We got a bit more snow, but not the amounts predicted and we only had the high winds for a short time.

Carolyn glad the high winds didn't mess with your area. They can do so much damage.

Judy glad you were able to stay home yesterday.

This morning I did Cardio Party, 39 minutes, 289 calories burned, average heart rate 136, and maximum heart rate 162. I’ve been having problems with biceps/triceps on one arm for a couple of weeks. I think that I will skip upper body work this week to let that irritation heal. I’ve been using an
anti-inflammatory cream on it, but I need to give it a few days of rest.

Judy, nice job with Peloton ride, JS Gentle Yoga for Back Pain Prevention, and Peloton mobility.

Cathy, nice job on C&W Step premix, and LiTE PP Upper Body.

Hello to Valerie, Diane Sue, and Shannon.

Hi, ladies. Yesterday I went for a walk. Nothing exceptionally fast, just a basic brisk walk. This morning I went to town to see what sort of bikes are available locally. The answer is NONE. Academy Sports had one I liked on display, but they don’t have it in stock. I have to order it online. Please note – they won’t even order it. I have to. What’s the point of even having a physical store nowadays? Grumble.

I am having second thoughts about the bike anyway. The only place I have to put it is in my living room, and it will totally ruin my nice, peaceful décor. But I don’t know what else to do. I need some way to get harder cardio than a walk gives me, but that will be a different movement from Cathe’s low impact stuff. Let me know if you have any inspiration. Swimming is totally out, by the way. No way in h***, LOL.

Cathy – your cats are quite the workout partners, aren’t they? Fortunately all of the dogs I’ve had prefer to get the heck out of the way when I’m exercising. I remember once when my loop snapped when I was doing firewalkers. It flew across the room. Sunny, my dog at the time, cleared out of the living room whenever I worked out from then on. No, my mom’s cat does not hunt mice and never has. I don’t think she knows what the word “hunt” means. She’s a strange one. Now, a cat I had a long while back was an incredible huntress. She especially liked to kill birds. I’d come home from work to a pair of wings and feathers everywhere in the garage.

Carolyn – Thanks, I’m glad you think my rotation looks okay. I’m glad the storm wasn’t too bad for you. We had some really heavy rain that made the creek flood, but other than that, no problems. Very good idea to take it easy on your upper body this week. Take it easy and let your arm heal.

Judy – I’m glad you didn’t get too much snow. We are supposed to get some starting tomorrow, but how much is still anyone’s guess. And it might be ice. Thanks – I’m glad you like the looks of my new workout schedule. Oh dear, I hope you can get your HD schedule reduced. You sure don’t need those long shifts.

Diane – Wow, I haven’t had German chocolate cake in forever. That sounds delicious. I’m sorry you have so many joint issues. It sounds very painful. I admire you for still exercising. Most people would just quit.

Hi to Valerie.

I did a spin bike the last 2 days along with all the therapy work. its tedious avoiding upper body . I can do a little but not much. seems like forever. when I do treadmill I have light weights I use that raise intensity a little.
Im having issues with one of the settings on the new pacer. I became certain of it over the weekend. its a new device I wanted to be sure.
bought a pulse oximeter and started monitoring. my normal resting heart rate is low 50's. suddenly without changing anything, rate is upper 80's. the pacer is set on too high a number. it thinks the low 50's numbers are too low and it activates. I need a reset. a similar thing happened 16 yrs ago and after it was reset to accommodate my normally low numbers, all was fine. I wasnt sure of this for the first week. I thought i was imagining it. no way to measure. now I do and its what I suspected. Im not a cardiologist but I can see the rate jump , feel it happen, and then watch it drop back down quickly close to where it should be. office is closed for the holiday today so cant talk to them until tuesday. this new device must need a different adjustment than the old one because my cardiologist thought this was covered. its not. it happens a lot making my BP too high also. I had dh listen to my heart and its regular rhythm, not AF or something. it wakes me up at night. right after surgery I wasnt sure what was happening but i suspected this from early on. when I had my one week f/up viist with the device tech he said my pacer was activating a lot more than previously. he thought it was set to the same criteria as the old one had been. i think this is proof. ive seen it happen multiple times now.

I love German chocolate cake!. havent made it in forever, but for V day I bought a tuxedo chocolate mousse cake from costco. had it before, and it will do! I had one piece and will maybe have a little more before its gone. too caloric to have often. would have bought 2 pieces if I could .
looking at forecast, looks like pretty severe weather, another polar vortex swooping in to freeze up everything in the middle of the country. we are hoping for next weekend for a trip but will have to see if this would be drivable. if its 2 days of blizzards, chains and wrecks, its not worth it.
shannon we only had oneshop with spin bikes when we bought ours. Le Mond brand. a nice solid piece of gear. doesn't take up much room. I want it where I can watch something on TV while riding. DVD or TV. if the living room is where that is, so be it. ours does not have a built in large screen. your house, your rules. we have a dedicated exercise room but that wasnt always so. I hate swimming too. Ugh! my skin wont tolerate the chlorine. dries out like a cracker. I never liked it. dont like the drive both ways and clothes change etc.
Cathy cats are always in the way. our guy so far isnt interested in exercise room while we use it. good news, believe me.

Today I did 40 minutes of rowing, 30 minutes of Peloton Strength work and 20 minutes of PT work.

Cathy-Great job with C&W step premix and Lite PP Upper Body.

Carolyn-Great job with Cardio Party. I’m sorry about your bicep/tricep issue. It’s a good idea to take a break from upper body work for a bit. I hope it heals quickly.

Shannon-Nice job getting the walk in. I’m sorry that they didn’t have any bikes in the store.

Valerie-Nice job with the spin bike and therapy work. I hope you can get your pacemaker reset soon.

Hi to Diane Sue

Today I did Raw Kickbox #5 40 minutes, 186 calories, heart rate 122/158, LMR functional core timesaver 1st half, 22 minutes, 74 calories heart rate 92/114, and LMR Functional Yoga Fusion Timesaver floor, 20 minutes, 42 calories. Total time was 82 minutes, 302 calories, 2,384 steps. I like this kickbox workout, and have done it several times. Today I should have kept my eye on Kelly, because I was watching the other lady trip on the mat and caught my foot on the edge of mine. I knocked the remotes all went flying and somehow paused the workout. My husband ordered me a Fire TV television. I can't wait to get it so I do not have to waste time trying to get my tv to have a normal color picture. I have had fluorescent pink and green blurred and all green screen with occasional black and white. If I plug and unplug waiting in between I can eventually get the picture. Weather says significant snowfall tomorrow. It is really cold. Yesterday was fun. Way too many goodies. German chocolate cake, Oreo cheesecake and banana splits.

Cathy, good job on LMR Core and Lower/Upper Balance Discs. My dog comes in when I am on the floor and I try to work around her. I try to move at angles to get a little more space and she has to get closer to snuggle, or get close to my hand so maybe she will get petted. Good job on today's CW cardio timesaver and PP Upper Body today.

Carolyn, nice work on the Gentle Yoga Yesterday and Cardio Party today. Good idea to take a break till problem is gone. I have learned to take extra days off or choose things that does not require use of an area that needs recovery. I had planned on a full body workout today, but so many areas need some recovery I just went for core and cardio. My daughter asked her dad what he wanted her to bring for a side dish and he teasingly said banana split.

Judy, good job on yesterday's 45-minute Peloton Ride, JS Gentle Yoga for Back Pain Prevention and 15 minutes of Peloton Mobility, and today's 40 minutes of row, 30 minutes Peloton Strength work and 20 minutes of PT work.

Shannon good job on the walk. My dog checks what kind of workout I am going to do. She waits when I get out the bench to see if it is cardio or weights. Cardio and she leaves the room. I got my spin bike on Amazon when some ladies were talking about this great deal on a Schwinn spin bike. 90 dollars. That was years ago. It is not a fancy bike with a screen. It shows miles, calories(doesn't match up to watch) I could get the Garmin device to hook to the bike though. I use Cathe's spin bike workouts and Kelly Coffey has a few on her Raw Channel that are more of a cardio strength workout. Off and on the bike. I do not think there is much you can do on a piece of equipment without taking up room.

Valerie, nice that you were able to get in some treadmill walking with light weights and therapy work. I hope you can get help with your new pacer tomorrow. That would be disturbing. I had a sliver of German chocolate cake and cheesecake and half a banana split. Felt stuffed last night. We have lots left here. I will cut the cake in individual servings and freeze them for my husband. He is on low carb so way off diet right now.

Good morning, ladies. Yesterday I deviated from my planned weight workout and took a five mile walk instead. We are going to get a nasty mix of ice and snow today and tomorrow, along with some very cold temps, so I decided to get outside while I had the chance.

I think I will hold off on getting a bike after all. I just don’t want a big piece of equipment in my living room. I will keep my yoga/mobility day on Wednesday to break things up and see how it goes. And maybe once this cold spell passes, my hip will feel better. It’s supposed to be in the 60s next week, of all the crazy things. Anyhow, I haven’t totally ruled out a bike. I just want to think on it some more.

Valerie – I sure hope you get your pacemaker settings straightened out. That must be very disconcerting, to say the least, to feel the sudden changes in your heart rate. Okay, anything called a chocolate mousse cake has to be absolutely delicious.

Judy – Good job on your Peloton workouts and PT.

Diane – I’m glad you didn’t fall when you tripped over the mat. When is your Fire TV supposed to arrive? I had a very old TV not too long ago, and the picture tube was going out. Cathe and crew looked like green and purple aliens, depending on where they were standing on the screen. It’s very nice to see them in proper color on my new TV.

Hello to Cathy and Carolyn.

This morning I did Live 30 Minute Kickbox Express and PP Lower Body. It's cold today, but sunny with no wind. DH went to town yesterday and he said the roads were badly drifted. He leans to the dramatic side, so while I'm sure they were drifted, I'm not sure how much. I need to get out tomorrow to shop, so hopefully between the sun, and one hopes them plowing again, it'll be okay. Besides my car sets up higher than his does.

Diane Sue I hope your new TV works out well. Glad you didn't hurt yourself tripping.

Valerie I hope you get your pacemaker adjusted soon. I doubt they expect anyone your age to have that low of heart rate.

Shannon I remembering reading one time the cats need to be taught to hunt by their mothers. I don't know if that means actual hunting or if pretend hunting will work. I've had cats that had absolutely no clue and cats that are deadly. Then there are those who just see them as toys and keep putting them down, chasing and picking them back up. First time I really realized this I had 3 cats and a hamster. Well the darn hamster figured out a way to escape and at night, it would get out, go around picking up whatever tiny crumbs it could find, and be waiting in the morning with it's cheeks full. The three cats would just follow it round and watch it so I continued to let it enjoy its nightly freedom. Then, in my infinite wisdom, I adopted a kitten. Brought her home and first time he got out, she nabbed him. She was too little to do any damage, but after that I cut off his access. Last thing she ever caught as back then, all my cats were indoors. There wouldn't be any out now, if it wasn't for DH, but that's a really long story that still irritates me. I hope your ice is minimal. Have you checked out treadmills? There are some that can be folded really flat and would slide under a couch.

Carolyn sorry to hear about your bicep/tricep. Hopefully resting it for a bit helps.

Judy I hope you are getting to enjoy sunshine today, too.

Today I did P 30 Perfect Pump Lower Body for 31 minutes and 183 calories burned. My average heart rate was 128 and maximum heart rate was 153. My husband had a medical appointment this morning which took a big bite out of my day. I had an appointment scheduled for tomorrow but I called and rescheduled it. I don’t want to go out in tomorrow’s impending winter weather if I don’t absolutely have to.

Shannon, nice job with your walking. I understand about waiting to buy a bike. I don’t use mine very much anymore. It’s not that I dislike it, but other forms of cardio are more enjoyable for me.

Valerie, I hope that you were able to contact the cardiologist about your pacemaker settings. Nice work with the spin bike and therapy. German Chocolate Cake isn’t a favorite of mine so I don’t have a problem when it make one. I slice it into individual servings and freeze for my husband. Of course I try not to make it unless other people are here.

Judy, nice job with rowing, Peloton strength, and PT work.

Diane Sue, nice job with Raw Kickboxing, LMR Functional Core timesaver and Functional Yoga Fusion timesaver.

Cathy, nice job with Live 30 Minute Kickbox Express and PP Lower Body.

Today I did Lift Move & Restore Functional Lower Body, 56 minutes, 178 calories followed by LMR Pilates timesaver foam roller and lower foam rolling portion skipping the workout part at the end, 28 minutes, 57 calories. I upped some of the moves like deadlifts and sumo squat to 20# and others 15#. 12# feels really light to me. Total time was 84 minutes, 235 calories. I decided not to do Total Body as my shoulders, back and neck are giving me lots of discomfort. I think I should have not skipped buying my usual joint supplements of glucosamine chondroitin with ASU , Omegas, and Curcumin. My joints are not pleased. I ordered Sunday night, and they are not coming till Thursday. I keep ending up taking an Advil so I can at least sleep. The snow started a little later than forecast on AccuWeather My husband was able to keep his appointment for his driver's license renewal. They had texted him last night getting an alternate day if they had to close the tag agency today. Right now, it is 10 degrees and real feel -4.

Shannon, good job on the walk yesterday. Same here with ice and snow. I do not see a warming trend for a few days to melt it off. TV was black and white this morning till I unplugged and plugged in. The TV is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I am not sure if I should get my hopes up with the weather though. I also have new grey and pink Everlast boxing gloves that should be here Thursday. The TV I had was my Dad's and I have had it since he passed away 9 years ago. Our main TV is even older than that and picture okay, but sound will go down really low or suddenly blast out as loud as it can go.

Cathy, nice work on Live Kickbox Express and PP Lower Body. That is funny about the hamster and the cats. My last lab and the one I have now bought me presents that they caught and unintentionally injured bringing them to the door for a present. I hate dealing with half dead squirrels and birds. She drags locusts in the house to toy with and they hum. I guess it is the nature of the creatures. Shopping in cold weather does not sound fun to me.

Carolyn, nice job on PP Lower Body today. I always cancel appointments if travel is going to be bad.

had a cardiology appt this afternoon and are getting the problem solved in steps. it seems the unit was not set up to match the parameters. took us a long time to work out 16 years ago. I dont know whose job it is, unless they just assume you need new settings because its a new updated unit. they changed a lot of them today and i need to go back tomorrow for another adjustment via the Medtronic factory rep. it's weird to see the same guy over and over again. I even know his name. I recognized him right away from previous meetings. the factory rep is a part of the procedures at the hospital and also at the clinics.
our previous cat brought us a live squirrel one time, a big gray squirrel. the squirrel played dead until he was set down and then got pretty lively. that kitty killed and ate what he caught, except for the squirrel. we intervened and let that one go. . total hunter/killer. our next cat was very timid and would try to recruit playmates, like a baby bunny. he never killed anything. current kitty we dont know yet. trying to keep him mostly an indoor kitty.

weird schedule today, only 15 min on the spin bike and therapy work. I like the spin bike because it works things differently than most cardio workouts.

Check out the new workouts forum. Cathe announced her new series. LMR Elevated, or something like that. Presale starts this Friday. That woman is on a roll, LOL.

Today I did a 45-minute Peloton ride and 30 minutes of Peloton Restorative Yoga.

Diane Sue-Great job with Raw Kickbox, LMR functional core timesaver, LMR Functional Yoga Fusion Timesaver, Lift Move & Restore Functional Lower Body and LMR Pilates timesaver foam roller. I hope your upper body feels better soon. It's good that you are getting your supplements on Thursday.

Shannon-Great job with the 5-mile walk. I don’t blame you for taking more time to decide about getting a stationary bike. They do take up some space.

Cathy-Great job with Live 30 Minute Kickbox Express and PP Lower Body. It was really nice to see the sun today but it is so cold this week. Hopefully it will warm up next week.

Carolyn-Great job with P 30 Perfect Pump Lower Body. It’s good that you rescheduled your appointment tomorrow. I hope the weather doesn’t get too bad.

Valerie-I’m glad you were able to get into the cardiologist. That’s kind of odd that they didn’t set the pacemaker up correctly the first time. Great job with the spin bike and therapy work.

Judy its a very complex little device. so many ins and outs and variations that it can take a committee to figure out how to do some things. i think of it like a smart phone. mostly you learn the parts you need most of the time, and look up details on other features you might need but likely never will. my cardiologist is a smart guy nd so is his device tech, but they want the input from the factory rep too in case he knows a better way to accomplish this best. so many possibilities that the people who designed it are the ones who know it best. im a bit of an oddity because my resting heart rate is very low and im pretty fit plus I get very "bothered" when the device bumps my heart rate up to the range most people are comfortable at. its better tonight than it was but a few things left to adjust i think. they also wanted to see if im more comfortable after the changes they made today.

Hello to Cathy and Carolyn.
You contemplating a bike sounds just like me with the STS Bars. I would really like to use them, but finding a place to store them is my issue. I live in a small home that is already got too much stuff! I don't even have room under the bed!

Good morning, ladies. Yesterday I did my own weight workout. I sort of lost track of time while listening to 80s music on iHeart, LOL. But it was a good workout. My hip felt fine, but then it woke me up at about 2 a.m. Stupid thing. How am I supposed to know if my workouts bother it if it isn’t bothered during the actual workout? We only got about an inch of snow, if that much. Thank goodness. But it’s going to be around for several days, because it’s not supposed to get above freezing until Saturday.

Cathy – Did you manage to go shopping? I hope the roads aren’t too bad. Ours are icy. It’s easy to walk in the field, etc., but the roads froze pretty fast yesterday. That’s very interesting that cats need to be taught to hunt. I guess even instinct needs to be honed. I don’t want a treadmill. I figure if I’m going to walk, I’ll do that outside. I was looking for something with a different motion to change things up.

Carolyn - good job on Perfect Pump Lower Body. That’s a great workout. What sort of winter weather did you end up with? I like cardio with more variety of movement too. But I sort of feel like my options are getting fewer. I guess I’d better improve my attitude, LOL.

Diane – I’m sorry your shoulders are hurting. I hope your supplements come in soon. Wow, your TV was really old! Isn’t it nice how long things used to last. Not anymore, that’s for sure.

Valerie – I’m glad you’re getting your pacemaker issues straightened out. I’m sure you’ll feel so much better once you do. Oh man, I’ll bet you had quite an adventure trying to get a live squirrel out of the house!

Judy – Good job with your Peloton ride and yoga. Yeah, I technically have plenty of space for a bike, but I know I won’t like it in my living room. I thought about doing some major rearranging and putting it in a tiny spare room. But that room is very special to me right now, and I just don’t want to mess it up.
