Pentagenarians & Beyond: 02/09/2025

Good morning. I did my weekly yoga/mobility for 18 minutes today.

Judy, thanks for starting the thread this week. Great job with 50 minutes of Peloton rides, 45 minutes of Yin Yoga, walk with your husband, rowing, and upper body strength.

Valerie, nice job with your yard walk, 35 minutes on treadmill, 10 minutes on spin bike, and therapy work.

Cathy, I’m glad that you made it to NC safely. Great job with 30 Minute Kickboxing Express and LiTE Body Weight and Bands. Enjoy your time with your sister.

Diane Sue, great job with Raw Kickboxing, Raw Yoga Stretch, and Perfect Pump Upper Body. I’m sorry about the knee pain. You’ve got a busy week ahead.

Have a good day everyone.

This morning I did Live Low Impact Hiit w/Active Recovery. We are going to do some falls after lunch. And the weather is still bouncing all over and now I may end up leaving tomorrow because there is snow predicted between me and home Tues/Weds. I'll check again later in the day, but I do not want to deal with that. So, I'll reassess later today.

Today I did a 45-minute Peloton Walk. I kept my pace just over 4 mph for almost all of the walk and did a little over 3 miles.

Carolyn-Great job with your yoga/mobility.

Cathy-Great job with Live Low Impact Hiit w/Active Recovery. I hope you have a safe trip home and can avoid the winter storm. They are forecasting 4-8 inches here starting Wednesday.

Valerie-Great job with your treadmill walk, spin and therapy work. It sounds like cancelling the trip is a good idea.

Diane Sue-Great job with Perfect Pump Upper Body, the extended stretch, Raw Kickbox #5 and Raw Yoga Stretch. I’m sorry about your knee, I hope it feels better soon.

Hi to Shannon

Good morning, ladies. I had a really nice weekend with lots of outside time. Saturday it almost reached 80 degrees. Then Sunday it had a hard time getting up to 45. Talk about a big change. Let’s see. Friday I did Strong & Sweaty Bootcamp. I did one of the extreme premixes, but I skipped the cardio segments, so the workout was a little less than an hour. Then I did the no equipment abs from STS2. Saturday I took a five mile walk and then did some more leaf raking, picking up the leaves that I had piled a few weeks ago when I cleaned out the culverts. Sunday I did LMR Barre Fusion and then the lower body balance disc bonus. I liked those two together, since Barre has a lot of balance focus too. But next time, I may do the legs and core only premix. The upper body work is kind of “meh” to me.

Carolyn – thanks for the well wishes about my computer setup. We shall see. Yep, when yoga is what you need, you sure do know it, don’t you? That’s the way I feel too.

Valerie – I’d stay home if I was in your situation! How’s the Montana trip looking today? Don’t worry, I wasn’t suggesting that you go against doctor’s orders. Just more of an educational observation, I guess, so you could see what pulls and what doesn’t even when you don’t feel it.

Cathy – Whew, that detour sounds rough. I guess trucks have a really, really long detour if they can’t take the one you took. I hope you and your sister are having a good visit and that you make it home before the snow.

Judy – you’ve been doing some really good Peloton workouts. Way to go. You had a really good pace on your walk yesterday.

Diane – How is your knee? I hope it’s just bruised and not otherwise damaged.

Today I did LMR Functional Upper Body, 52 minutes 126 calories burned, average heart rate 99, and maximum heart rate 136.

Cathy, great job with Live Low Impact HiiT w/active recovery. I hope that you can get ahead of the bad weather for your return trip.

Judy, great job with 45 minute Peloton walk. 4 mph is a pretty good walking pace!

Shannon, great job with Strong and Sweaty Bootcamp, extreme premix, STS 2 No Equipment Abs, LMR Barre Fusion, lower body balance disc bonus, and all of that outdoor work.

Hello to Valerie and Diane Sue.

Today I did Perfect Pump Lower Body 36 minutes, 159 calories, heart rate 105/138. I followed with LMR mobility warm up and cardio bonus mix, 20 minutes, 118 calories, and CDorner Upper Stretch stopping at hand stretches, some foam rolling for upper back and hips, and Raw Stretch finisher, 24 minutes, 55 calories. Total time 80 minutes, 332 calories. I am busy setting up the table and making some dessert and treats for tomorrow. Hoping there is no snow. It looks like it will be Wednesday and maybe starting at night Tomorrow.

Carolyn, nice work on your weekly yoga Sunday and today's LMR Functional Upper Body.

Cathy, good job on Low Impact Hiit with Active Recovery. I hope that you enjoyed the falls, and that weather doesn't shorten your trip.

Judy, nice job on the Peloton 45 minute walk today.

Shannon, nice work on Strong and Sweaty Bootcamp without the cardio, STS 2 no equipment abs, 5 mile walk, outside yard work, and yesterday's LMR Barre Fusion and lower body balance disc bonus. I think that I have only done the whole workout once. The first time I just did the lower body and balance disc bonus. My knee is feeling okay now. I probably just set it off some as there was no swelling and the car riding and sitting at my granddaughter's did not help. I have a lot of arthritis in that knee, we had the warm days last week. I am kind of sorry I was not able to get out last Monday and do some shrub trimming. I did get out the week before on a warm day and trim, up the boxwoods while they do not have leaves setting on. It is easier to see where to trim. I need to do the crepe myrtles.

Hi to Valerie.

Today was one of those days that I couldn’t decide what I wanted to do so I did a little bit of everything. I did a 30-minute row, 20 minutes of Peloton strength and 20 minutes of scenic rides.

Shannon-Great job with Strong & Sweaty Bootcamp Extreme Premix, STS 2 abs, LMR Barre Fusion, lower body balance disc bonus and the 5-mile walk.

Carolyn-Great job with LMR Functional Upper Body.

Diane Sue-Great job with Perfect Pump Lower Body, LMR mobility warm up and cardio bonus mix, CDorner Upper Stretch, foam rolling and the Raw Stretch finisher.

Hi to Cathy and Valerie

busy medical day again. I had my one week f/up after surgery and all is going fine. I still have a few more weeks of taking it very easy on upper body anything. I thought I would be able to do more at this point but not really. I could finally take a shower but not any soap or water spraying on the site yet. a little damp was ok. I dont usually shower every day because my skin is so dry but a week is way long. every other body part appreciated getting showered! did some very limited 5 lb weights keeping my arm below my shoulder and pretty tight to my side. then walked 35 on the treadmill at 4% grade at 3 mph. felt good and not too hard.
Judy ( and anyone else who might be interested) if you ever wanted to get any of the Great Courses dvds, this is close to the last chance. the choice is not very good anymore. they are going to a download/membership format and that wont work as well for us as dvds do. the course I really enjoyed, "How the Earth Works" is $40. Ive listened to it more than once. it helps to have college chemistry to understand some of it but Wysession explains things so well it doesnt matter that much. the big picture is what is so fascinating, not so much the molecular level. the first lecture was about the history of Santorini the greek island that is having all the earthquakes right now. he could read the phone book and make it interesting, assuming he could find a phone book anymore. I went to school before plate tectonics was known or understand. it changes everything. just mentioning it for the last time.

judy we have a lot of the courses. what's left now is pretty limited. i love this class. I dont understand all of it but enough of it. he does not dumb things down IMO but explains things clearly in normal non technical language. I have no clue what the new structure will look like but dvds are easy for us so right now I prefer them. streaming is a little different in MT. they've been saying for a few months this the final close out so we will see. pricing is good although no one ever pays the full listed course amount. some of the courses I didnt enjoy but this one is fascinating. we watch "something" during lunch, and a half hour lecture fits in beautifully. we share some with our neighbor across the street who also enjoys them.

ETA the focus is how the planet works. some of the beginning is related to atomic structures and how rock can change from one thing to another under temperature and pressure , a little about the big bang. most of it is about plate tectonics, and how the continents move and change throughout world history and how those things are determined. oceans and continents come and go and everything gets recycled. gravity, differences in heat. it is absolutely fascinating. how the continents have fit together and broken apart now and in the past. sorry if I'm being a pest about this, but I want to believe everyone would benefit from understanding how the planet works. maybe this is taught in grade school now. I hope so.

Today I did LMR Functional Lower Body, 54 minutes, 224 calories burned, average heart rate 114, and maximum heart rate 146.

Diane Sue, great job with P30 Perfect Pump Lower Body, LMR Mobility Cardio bonus, CDorner upper stretch, and Raw stretch finisher.

Judy, great job with the 30 minute row, 20 minutes of Peloton strength, and 20 minutes of scenic rides.

Valerie, that’s good news from your medical follow up appointment. Nice job walking on the treadmill. Thanks for the information on The Great Courses.

Hello to Cathy and Shannon.

Today I did Live PHA Supersets #2, No Repeats and both of the LMR Foam Rolling bonuses.

Carolyn-Great job with LMR Functional Lower Body.

Valerie-I agree, the “How the Earth Works” course sounds really good and I think my husband will enjoy it too.

Hi to Cathy, Diane Sue and Shannon

Hi all! Finally back. So, after driving all day Friday, having beautiful, around 70 weather, Sat/Sun and getting in some hiking, I made the long drive back on Monday. The detour was way better that time. No one ahead of me ever, and no one crowding me. I did the fastest I could which was rarely as fast as the posted limit. I swear you'd need a sports car for that! 55 mph with constant curves just wasn't happening even with my car that takes curves really well. Then yesterday I had to shop because the snow will be starting today. We are currently in 3-6" range, which is much better than the 6-10" originally predicted. I'm pulling for 3" LOL This morning I did an IMAX workout, that is put together from IMAX 2,3 and 4, and then the Restorative Yoga. My lower body is still cranky about all the driving from Monday following 2 days of hiking. I'll be spending the day finishing the recovery of the house from my few days gone. Though the dishwasher was running when I arrived home, so at least the sink was empty. Can't wait to see what things will be like if I do that 15 day trip to see the boys. LOL

Good morning, ladies. I got distracted by work yesterday. I guess I’m easily distracted, LOL. My boss gave me a fun little challenge, and I think I’ve figured out a way to make it happen. Monday I did my usual weights on my own, and for some reason it felt harder than usual, which is fine. I’m glad to know I can give myself a good workout. Yesterday I did RWH HiiT Circuit Lower Body. I used the extreme premix, but stopped when I reached 50 minutes and then cooled down. And I replaced all the lower body weight segments with low impact cardio.

Carolyn – good work with LMR Functional Upper Body Monday and Lower Body yesterday.

Diane – Nice work on Perfect Pump Lower Body and all your other stuff. That’s quite a workout you put together. I hope you had a good time with the ladies yesterday. I’m glad your knee is feeling better. I’ve probably said this before, but arthritis sucks!

Judy – You sound like Diane, doing a little bit of everything the other day, LOL. Good job. That’s true functional fitness, right? And of course good work with Live PHA Supersets yesterday.

Valerie – I’m glad you got good news on your follow-up exam. Regarding the Great Courses, yes, I learned about plate tectonics in school (a long time ago), but who knows what they’re teaching now? Do they actually teach kids anything? Sigh.

Cathy – Glad you made it back safe and sound. I hope you don’t get much snow. We are currently inundated with rain. Darn good thing it’s not freezing, or we’d be up to our eyeballs in snow. Your Imax workout sounds like a blast. Dang, I miss those DVDs. Imax 2 was my favorite.

Today I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout two. That was 29 minutes, 197 calories burned, average heart rate 129, maximum heart rate 196. I did a virtual WW meeting after my workout.

I‘m reading a great series of books, The Thursday Murder Club. My daughter recommended the books and I love them. They are about a group of senior citizens in a retirement community who get involved in solving mysteries. The books are like cross between Murder She Wrote and Columbo if you remember those.

Judy, great job with Live PHA Supersets #2 and LMR Foam Rolling bonuses.

Cathy, I’m glad that you made it home safely with a better driving experience. Nice work with your IMAX workout.

Shannon, nice job with your own weight workout and RWH Circuit Lower Body (modified). It’s good to have work assignments that are fun and challenging. We are getting a lot of rain here as well. It’s cold, but above freezing so that’s a good thing.

Hello to Diane Sue and Valerie.

I did shopping yesterday and realized half way thru I am not supposed to lift more than 5 lbs.
first time driving too. mostly its the seat belt thats an issue. I think they are being over cautious but its stupid to push the envelope too far and pop a stitch. I do the treadmill with small hand weights and stay low and do some curls the same way. can use spin bike too but not elliptical. its hard to remember not to reach up for something and I've caught myself reaching up for the light at night when Im still half asleep because it doesnt feel like stretching and there is no discomfort.

shannon its good to know they teach more current topics. plate tectonics came into general knowledge in the 70's according to the professor but schools dont always pick up on things quickly since text books need to catch up as do teachers knowledge.
we have been covering volcanos / earthquakes. interesting to hear about mt st helens. we actually heard it where we lived in seattle. must be 150 miles or so. a long way. we were reading the sunday paper and heard a huge kaboom. it was predicted to erupt but no one knew when or how. we saw the ash plume later. it was memorable. it made an incredible mess over a huge area with ashfall problems. ash is very slippery and it clogs up the mechanics of vehicles so they cease to run. air travel was cancelled to some degree depending on which way the wind was blowing. we never had hiked there but a lot of places north and south of it. Prof has an interesting theory about what might have happened at Santorini in the past.

sorry cathy and judy about the pending snow situation. we are in the same situation for tomorrow, with moist air coming in after this cold spell. we had great news this morning, our neighbor plowed our montana driveway. we could see the snow piled along sides. I texted to thank them. he is doing the neighborhood. he might haver inherited the truck our previous neighbors had with a massive blade on the front. Im sure they didn't take it to Ireland with them. we pay an annual fee to keep the road plowed but usually driveways arent part of the deal.

cathy lucky you timing your trip just right for pleasant weather and a not bad drive. at least DW was running showing some effort. no special dinner to welcome you home??? ( tee hee just kidding)

did 15 on the spin bike and 20 on the treadmill. was going to do 30 but my shoes both untied and I decided to let it go at that.

Today I went for a walk with my husband, about 30 minutes. Then I did Live #524, Upper Body Weights & Tubing and a 30-minute Peloton Yin Yoga. This was another day that I couldn’t decide what I wanted to do for a workout. Maybe it’s the weather and lack of sunshine getting to me.

Cathy-Great job with your IMAX workout and Restorative Yoga. I’m glad you made it home safely. We are in the 2-8” range. AccuWeather says 43% chance of 2-4 and 53% chance of 4-8. The Detroit forecasts that I’ve looked at say 4-6. Looks like another round coming on Saturday too.

Shannon-Great job with RWH HiiT Circuit Lower Body and your weight workout. The RWH HiiT Circuit workouts are very challenging. I might have to try one of those again soon.

Carolyn-Great job with Cardio Quick Fix, workout two. That book series sounds wonderful! I loved Murder She Wrote, that was one of my favorite TV shows in the late 80’s.

Hi to Valerie and Diane Sue

Today I did LMR Functional Yoga Fusion, 41 minutes, 117 calories burned, average heart rate 107, and maximum heart rate 151. It was okay, but probably not one that I will use often. There are other yoga workouts that I enjoy more. I need to do the Restorative Yoga which I think that I will like.

Valerie, nice job with the spin bike and treadmill. It’s easy to forget about those lifting restrictions that are a part of your recovery process. Movements are automatic when you do routine activities like shopping.

Judy, nice job walking with your husband and doing Live Upper Body Weights and Tubing, and Peloton Yin Yoga.

Hello to Cathy, Diane Sue, and Shannon.

This morning I did Lower/Upper Body balance discs and in a bit I'm going out to shovel some. Looks like we got about 4". And after having sunshine all morning, it's snowing again, when it originally wasn't supposed to be. So, I may wait till that stops in an hour or so.

Carolyn I passed that book series info on to my Dad as it sounds like something he would really like. I love the restorative yoga workout, hopefully you will, too.

Valerie there are so many movements we make without even consciously thinking about them, that's it's very easy when on restrictions to do something when there's no pain. That was really nice that your neighbor plowed your drive in MT out.

Judy I hope the snow isn't impacting you much. We have more coming Saturday that's in the same amount range, too.

Shannon lots of rain isn't fun, but freezing or the amount of snow that it would have left you are worse.
