Pentagenarians & Beyond: 02/02/2025

I did STS 2 Giant Sets Total Body today. 2 rounds and remembered why this is my least favorite of the 3 total body workouts. LOL Finished with the stretch from P30. We are doing snow/melt here. Yesterday after most of our snow was gone, late afternoon we got another 1-2", a bit more this morning, but it's supposed to be 38 today and 41 tomorrow.

Diane Sue I don't know about your discs, but mine were a real pain to inflate. I'm really hoping I don't need to mess with them for quite awhile.

Valerie too bad about your roads. I hope everything goes smoothly for you tomorrow.

Hi Judy, Carolyn and Shannon.

snow hasn't interfered with anything so far and road issues just in the mountains, only a tiny bit of snow in the lowlands.. I don't need to be there until 11 am so even if it gets messy, by that time all the commuter crashes will have cleared. it's a busy drive but should not be by mid morning. Im still feeling ok. no sxs. DH is getting better. this wasn't a real awful head cold for him but I know they will cancel me if I have any symptoms. so far, so good.

I'm not clear on how limited I'll be on upper body work after this. the printed directions are for a full pacemaker procedure and this is nowhere near that extensive. I'm sure for at least a week, so I'm focusing on upper body again today. cant figure out how to get a bra on if I cant raise my arms above elbow height . whatever, I'll manage. I have all pullover bras and have only one that's a front closure. never in my life been able to use a back hook bra and that would require stretching the chest area too. maybe Ill have to stay in whatever I get into for a week!. I cant full shower for that long anyway, but I did this 16 years ago so ill figure it out.

ETA I did therapy work, curls, pushups, and then a premix from functional upper body. all together a good hour. I will be OK to walk or ride so doing things I wont be able to do.

I did my usual Sunday yoga/mobility for 18 minutes. Yesterday was a bread baking day which kept me pretty busy. We’re all set for the next two weeks now.

Valerie, great job with part of LMR Functional Upper Body, part of Stacked Sets Upper, and therapy exercises.

Diane Sue, great job with LMR Functional Lower Body + Lower Balance discs.

Cathy, great job with STS 2 Giant Sets Total Body, 2 rounds, and P30 Extended Stretch.

Hello to Judy and Shannon.

Today was a rest day.

Cathy, good job on Total Body Giant Sets. My favorite of the three Total Body workouts is Super Sets. Mostly because there is no overhead presses. I don't dread any of it.

Valerie, I hope everything goes well. It is always my preference to travel to appointments between 10 and 11. I always ask for that time frame. That way I miss work traffic and school traffic. When I had the shoulder surgery, I got Jockey pull on bras, which I recently bought more of, and I stepped into them and slid them over my arms that way. There was no way I was able to raise my arm much at all and twisting around hurt. I also blew my hair dry with my head upside down. I learned from youtube how to lean over and slide my arms and head into a t shirt rather than pull it over my head.

Carolyn, nice work on your usual yoga. I bet your home smelled wonderful with all of the bread making.

This morning I did Gloved Up and Sweaty, 39 minutes, 219 calories burned, average heart rate 117, and maximum heart rate 147. I didn’t remember anything about this workout so I looked back in my workout log. I’ve only done it once before and that was early September. I wasn’t aware that I was overlooking it but it was fine today.

Trisets Total Body is my least favorite of the STS 2 total body workouts.

Diane Sue, I hope that you had a good rest day. I made a loaf of rye bread with orange zest and fennel seeds. I was worried that we might not like it, but it is delicious. My husband eats a sandwich almost every day and I love my avocado toast so I try to have healthy bread available.

Valerie, I hope that everything goes well for you.

Hello to Judy, Cathy, and Shannon.

Friday I did 30 minutes of Peloton Legs and Core Strength and a 15 minute Peloton Row. Saturday I did a 30 minute Peloton Walk, 20 minutes of Peloton Upper Body and 10 minutes of stretching. Yesterday I did a 30-minute Peloton Interval Ride and a 15-minute walk with my husband. Today is my rest day and I’m thinking about making this an active rest week.

Cathy-Great job with STS 2 Giant Sets Total Body and the P30 Stretch. We had some snow yesterday but it’s all melted now.

Valerie-I hope everything is going well today.

Carolyn-Great job with your yoga/mobility and Gloved Up & Sweaty. I have Gloved Up & Sweaty on my list of workouts to do. The STS 2 Trisets Total Body was my least favorite also.

Diane Sue-I hope you are having a good rest day.

Hi to Shannon

Today I did Lift Move Restore Total Body, 61 minutes, 209 calories, heart rate 101/137. I finished with LMR upper foam roller omitting the mini workout and Restorative Yoga Bonus, 31 minutes, 60 calories. Total time 92 minutes, 269 calories. I raised some of the weights today. I still skipped or did other options for plank work.

Carolyn, nice job on Gloved Up and Sweaty. I think I have done it 3 times. I like it, but the costochondritis and neck problems made me leave it alone for a while. I love rye bread. The orange zest and fennel seeds sound like an interesting flavor profile. I bet it is good toasted. I eat seed bread toasted with avocado quite often for breakfast.

Judy, nice work on the 30 minutes of Peloton Legs and Core Strength and a 15-minute Peloton Row Friday, Saturday's 30-minute Peloton Walk with 20 minutes of Peloton Upper Body and 10 minutes of stretching, and yesterday's 30-minute Peloton Interval Ride and 15-minute walk with your husband.

Good morning, ladies. Let’s see. Saturday I unclogged culverts, which involved a lot of raking sopping wet leaves out of the creek bed. Those things were heavy. It was quite a workout, let me tell you. Sunday I walked – three short walks with Sara and a five-mile road walk by myself. Yesterday I did weights on my own.

Yesterday I got really into an editing and design project and totally forgot to post. I love jobs like that, but dang it all, my arm and shoulder do not like all the mousing that design requires. I woke up at about 2:30 with my arm throbbing and starting to do its pins and needles thing. I took some pain meds, tied an ice pack to my arm and went back to bed. Fortunately, my new keyboard and mouse tray arrived yesterday. Hopefully it will help.

Cathy – I don’t like Giant Sets as much as Super Sets. But I didn’t even bother to get Trisets, because I knew from the description that I wouldn’t like it. I didn’t order the full program, just Giant Sets, Super Sets and the Abs DVD. At least your snow is melting in between falls and not getting deeper, right? It was 75 Sunday and I think 79 yesterday! Crazy. But we are supposed to drop back to the 40s in a few days, thank goodness.

Valerie – How about just going bra-less? Wear a comfy, baggy sweatshirt and enjoy the freedom!

Carolyn – Your rye bread sounds absolutely fabulous. I used to bake bread but got tired of spending so much time in the kitchen. My sister has a bread machine. Maybe I should try one, because let me tell you, reading about your bread makes me want some.

Diane – I totally agree about missing traffic. I used to use “flex hours” when I worked in Little Rock, going in extra early and then leaving early so I’d avoid commuter traffic. It saved my sanity. You mentioned toasted bread with avocado. You should try adding a scrambled egg. An egg sandwich with avocado is delicious.

Judy – What do you have planned for your active rest week? I hope you enjoy it.

No workout yesterday. Though I did go out and walk the paths a few times. Rough sleep and I figured a break wouldn't hurt. This morning I did Live in the Ring and Pyramid Pump Total Body Down Only Premix. Heading to my parents later this morning. After temps in the 40's yesterday, most of our snow is gone. Got cold over night and staying below freezing today, so our yard that was a sloppy, icy mess, but now it's just icy in all the places where it holds water after a heavy rain or melt.

Valerie I hope everything goes well today and you have a fast recovery.

Shannon flex hours are great. The last few years I worked for the state, eons ago now, I worked 8:30-5:00. I could go to a 6:10 aerobic class, hit the weight room, shower and eat breakfast before going to work. I could do it and get there at 8, but felt rushed.

all went Ok yesterday except way later than scheduled. surgery at 1 didn't happen until at least 3. so directions for post surgery are all written as if I had the procedure early morning. I am refusing to remove the dressing until later today but DH is fussing at me to do it now . I am waiting until after lunch. he's angry at me because I'm arguing with him. all directions have been printed, all read as if you were done at 7 am. the doc and him are arguing with me not wearing a bra. concern is straps will rub. I did that yesterday and NO!!, that does not work. I'm not built like Mae West, but boob weight pulls on the stitch line, even when sleep. with nothing its a constant irritation.
I cant see the stitches until dressing comes off in several hours. right now I'm wearing a regular underwire bra with no strap over my left shoulder, over a sleep shirt. better than no bra. Im looking at amazon for post surgery bras for breast surgery. I wont be doing upper body things for a while so it was wise to focus on it lately. not supposed to raise left arm above my shoulder or extend behind for a while. basically the whole pacemaker is exchanged for a new one, not just the batteries but thats all there is to a pacemaker.

I LOVE rye bread. its not popular here so I rarely see it. I used to make it myself sometimes but DH never cared for it. I dont eat much bread these days so its not worth it baking it but Id buy some if I ever saw it. I like with caraway or orange peel used to get it in the midwest in small baguette size with caraway and coarse salt on top. so good!! very German.

Today I did P 30 Perfect Pump Upper Body and the Extended Stretch. My time was 43 minutes with 106 calories burned. Average heart rate was 102 and maximum heart rate was 132.

The rye bread that I made was Swedish rye. For years I thought that I didn’t like rye bread, but it’s the caraway seeds that I don’t like. I usually make a rye bread without seeds, but I was intrigued by this recipe. I’m glad that I tried it.

Judy, great job with 30 minutes of Peloton Legs and Core Strength, 15 minute Peloton row, 30 minute Peloton walk, 20 minutes of Peloton Upper Body, and 10 minutes of stretching.

Diane Sue, great job with LMR Total Body, Upper Body foam rolling, and Restorative yoga.

Shannon, I hope that the new keyboard and mouse tray helps with the pain. Do you use any kind of brace? I actually use a bread machine for most of my breads these days. I bought a Zojirushi machine last January. Before that I used a Bosch Universal mixer for kneading. The bread machine is not exactly “set and forget”, but I don’t have to be as hands on as I was before. Once the machine gets going and I check the consistency of the dough a couple of times I just let it run the cycle. Sometimes I use the dough cycle and bake in the oven.

Cathy, great job with Live In The Ring and Pyramid Pump Total Body, down only premix.

Valerie, I’m glad that the surgery went well. I don’t blame you for being cautious with things after the procedure.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

dressing is off and it looks Ok. my skin was(is)getting very irritated from the chlorhexidine solution used to disinfect everything. I cant take a shower or get it week for a week. I finally got thru to DH about the discomfort of tissue pulling down on the stitch line. its basic. "rocks roll downhill" as gravity pulls. having some support underneath is much better than none.

I had an old bread machine I tossed becauseof rust inside. we dont eat sandwiches much anymore so bread making doesn't happen. I have the KA mixer I'd use now.

diane sue you are slimmer than I am. I could not even hope to get into a bra from the bottom up. Im very good at sleeves without raising my arm so I'm doing ok. I ordered some front zip bras without underwires from amazon that will help the transition. underwires are fine during the day but I dont want to sleep in them.

Today I did an easy 30-minute walk and both of the LMR foam rolling bonuses.

Diane Sue-Great job with Lift Move Restore Total Body, upper foam roller and Restorative Yoga Bonus.

Shannon-I’m sorry about your arm and shoulder pain. I hope the new keyboard and mouse tray help. I don’t have any specific plans for my active rest week. I will probably do short easy walks, and a lot of stretching. I might not take the whole week; I’ll probably want to do a harder workout by Thursday or Friday.

Cathy-Great job with Live in the Ring and the Pyramid Pump Total Body Premix.

Valerie-I’m glad that everything went well with your new pacemaker.

Carolyn-Great job with P 30 Perfect Pump Upper Body and the Extended Stretch.

Today I did I started with a CDorner Beginner Cardio and changed my mind after 10 minutes and did Raw Kickbox One on One, 40 minutes, 254 calories, heartrate 135/171, 3,127 steps. I finished with Raw Yoga Stretch, 15 minutes, 34 calories. Total time 55 minutes, 288 calories. I had my grandson here today. I doubt I will get in workouts the next two days since we are going to visit our granddaughter.

Valerie, I am glad things went well. It makes sense that the weight would pull on the stitches. Front zip bras would be a good solution.

Today I did the Lower/Upper Body Balance Disc workouts. Definitely better doing them facing away from the TV. I've done them enough now that I can just follow verbal instructions.

Valerie glad everything went well and hope you find a bra solution that works. I am not built like you, so I've never had to deal with that except in the early stages of nursing the boys when my milk was fullest. I won't forget a couple days after I got home with Nick, standing in the shower and laughing my head off at how big they were. DH came in to see what was so funny and I just got out "look at them." LOL That was my only experience with a large chest and even though I nursed a few years they settle back to near normal size quickly. Hope everything heals quickly.

Carolyn I agree with you on the caraway. Just can't do it. DH likes Rye bread and I buy it for him sometimes, but it generally has caraway in it.

This morning I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix workout one. That was 26 minutes, 178 calories burned, average heart rate 129, and maximum heart rate 148.

Judy, nice job with the 30 minute walk and both foam rolling bonuses.

Diane Sue, good job with Raw Kickboxing One on One and Raw Yoga Stretch.

Cathy, good job with upper and lower body balance disc workouts.

Hello to Valerie and Cathy.

Oooomph. What a day. My eyes are about ready to fall out of my head, and my arm is not happy. Yep, another super-mousing day. I will just plan to take meds before I go to bed and hope I can head the worst off at the pass. I just may sort of take tomorrow off from computer work and install that new keyboard. It’s work related, so I’m justified, right? LOL. Yesterday I did my low impact version of Cross Fire, which is still a dang good workout even then.

Cathy – walking the paths sounds very nice. I hope you slept better last night. Good grief, girl, you covered a lot of ground before work when you worked “eons ago.” Your story about after you came home with Nick cracked me up. I get it, even though I never had kids.

Valerie – Yes, good point about your stitches being pulled if you don’t wear a bra. I didn’t think about that. I hope your new bras are easy to get on, and I hope your incision heals quickly.

Carolyn – No, I don’t use a brace. I’m not really sure it would help. The problem seems to be something about the angle of my arm when I use the mouse, out to the side of my keyboard. So I’m trying to arrange things to keep my arm closer to my body, more like when I type.

Judy – your plans for a rest week sound very nice. I’m like you, whenever I plan a rest week, I end up cutting it short.

Diane – I’m so glad you get to spend so much time with your grandchildren. That’s awesome. Enjoy!

For those of you who like rye bread but don’t want to bake it, check out Dave’s Killer Bread if your grocery store sells it. They make a really good bread called “Righteous Rye,” and it doesn’t have caraway. Our store used to sell it, but dang it, they quit. I was probably the only one who bought it. Sigh.
