Pentagenarians & Beyond: 02/02/2025

Good morning, everyone. Yesterday I had STS2 Supersets Total Body scheduled, but I switched to LMR Functional Mobility Fusion. I was very careful with the thread the needle move and just sort of got in the basic position but didn't push. After that, I did a thorough stretch. Then I downed a mix of Tylenol and ibuprofen which works better for me than just one or the other. Tied an ice pack onto my arm while I ate and cleaned up. I had some mild pain last night, but nothing like in the past. So yay, my pre-treatments worked!

Judy - Nice job on your gentle row. Are you ready for a bigger workout yet? Today is Thursday! Or do you think you'll continue with your active recovery week? I hope you didn't get too much ice last night. It was 60 degrees with 95% humidity when I woke up. Ugh. I don't want ice, but I sure don't want this either. It's supposed to hit 75 today.

Valerie - Yeah, I imagine a shower would be lovely. But just hang in there. I'm glad you were at least able to have a sponge bath. I'm sure it helped a little. I'm very glad your echo had good results! Very clever of you to pull out the old swimsuit. Just keep on taking it easy, and you'll heal. Your icy roads do not sound fun. Be safe!

Hello to Cathy, Diane and Carolyn.

No shopping today. We got a bit of ice over night. Not a lot and we're going to the mid-30's so it will melt off today. But no school, no shopping. My rule. I did Killer Legs Barre Bonus and STS 2 Mobility 1.

Shannon you might want to consider a carpal tunnel type night brace. I got pregnancy carpal tunnel, which until I got it never knew was a thing. It tapered off afterwards, but to this day, it gets triggered by my not drinking enough water and overdoing things like holding a pen/pencil or trying to crochet/knit. Driving long distances too. I found that a night brace worked as well for me as wearing a brace during the day. And it might at least give your arm some rest in a properly aligned position. After we moved here, we started letting about 2/3's of the backyard grow naturally and keep paths mowed. After 17 years, we have fully mature trees (animal planted mostly), various types of wildflowers, grasses and things like dogwood. Wildlife likes it, and we get some natural space on a little over an acre. It's fascinating to watch the changes to what grows over the years. The last couple years the white daisies I planted in a small bed when we first moved here, jumped ship and there aren't any there anymore, but we have huge patches of them in the lawn and on the paths. DH just mows around them until they stop blooming. Same happened with violets up near the house.

Judy hope you got the light end of the ice, too.

Valerie I hope your new bras show up today.

Today I did LMR Pilates Fusion + Lower Body Foam Rolling. That was 51 minutes, 170 calories burned, average heart rate 110, and maximum heart rate 145.

Shannon, nice job with your version of Crossfire low impact and LMR Functional Mobility Fusion. I’m glad that the pain meds helped.

Judy, nice job with 30 minute row and 10 minutes of Arms + Light Weights.

Cathy, good job with Killer Legs Barre Bonus and STS 2 Mobility 1.

Valerie, I hope your bras come soon. I used front zip bras after the Lumpectomy for my breast cancer. They worked well.

Cathy the thoughts about a brace are good. everything is connected to everything else, somehow. ive had tennis elbow before and what worked for me was a wrist brace at night. when you sleep, your hand and wrist motions can aggravate the elbow area. if you wear a brace at night it gives the area a chance to rest and heal. shannon you could try that. its weird to think something on your wrist will help your shoulder but it might. what you're doing already might too. its hard to tell if its something you are actively doing, or something you are specifically not doing, that causes improvement. you can get decent carpal tunnel braces from amazon for about $15. I like Muller brand best but there are many options. i have ones with a plastic splint inside soft fabric with velcro closures. I have carpal tunnel and thumb issues but no tennis elbow for a long time. I have major hand arthritis. mostly i work around it. I dont wear a brace during the day.

skin irritation is decreased after the sponge bath and cream. i will do it again today. theres a small area we cant touch but we can settle down irritation everywhere else.

our yard is mostly wild with a serious evergreens. firs, hemlocks, cedars. alders, maples, . cottonwood. the area was logged in the 1920's but they left the cedars so they are very large now. like 200 feet tall easily. we have some ornamentals around the house but lean toward rhodies, azaleas, evergreen shrubs that flower. most of the yard is natural. isnt always nice. blackberries, nettle, bleeding heart, ferns. we have our vegie garden and flower beds but its 5 acres so a lot is pnw forest. we kept more of our trees than our neighbors. whats noticeable is how much cooler it is in the trees on a hot day. hello global warming. big trees next to the house are a big risk though so most of those are down.

I installed the keyboard tray, which has a little mouse platform out to the side. I can adjust the angle and level of both. But what I really need is to have the mouse right on top of my keyboard. Ha. I will say that typing is already more comfortable, but I'm not sure if the mouse platform will help or not. We shall see. Y'all should be impressed, by the way. I had to use a power drill. Tools really aren't my thing, LOL.

Cathy - I must say, pregnancy is a strange thing. I've heard that pregnant women can get carpal tunnel, but it really doesn't make much sense, does it? I've found that if I prop my arm in a certain way on a pillow, it helps quite a bit. I hadn't thought of trying a brace, since the pain is way up in my shoulder, but I do have a couple of wrist braces from past issues.

Carolyn - nice job with Functional Pilates Fusion and foam rolling.

Valerie - I like Muller too. And those are easy to find, even at Walmart. I'm sorry about your arthritis. My mom has it really bad in her hands too. It's a bugger to deal with, but that's about all you can do is deal with it. I sure am glad your skin irritation is getting better.

Cathy and Valerie - your yards sound really nice with all the natural space and wild/native plants. It's much easier to maintain, too. Last summer, I took down my dog pen since Sara is indoors unless she's with me. So now my backyard is back to its natural forest. And I'm letting the west side go back, as well. It's much easier not to try to argue with Mother Nature. But I do keep a lot mowed because I Iike to be able to see snakes if they're headed my way. Arkansas has a lot of them. And then Dad keeps the field bush hogged, so there's no point in letting my yard go natural. It would look weird. But we have lots of oak forest all around, which I really love.

Today I worked a 4-hour shift at Home Depot and this evening I did a 30-minute Peloton Total Body Strength workout. All of the schools were closed around here today but the roads were not too bad when I went to work. We didn't get as much ice as predicted.

Shannon-Great job with LMR Functional Mobility Fusion and your stretch. I think I’m back to normal workouts for the rest of the week.

Cathy-Great job with Killer Legs Barre Bonus and STS 2 Mobility 1. We didn’t get much ice over here either.

Carolyn-Great job with LMR Pilates Fusion + Lower Body Foam Rolling.

Valerie-I hope your new bras arrive soon.

Hi to Diane Sue

Just a quick note. My sister messaged me early afternoon, that she was needing some time in nature and was heading to NC tomorrow until Wednesday. So, I shopped this afternoon, have prepped food and packed and I'll be leaving for there tomorrow. LOL

Hi, ladies. I did RWH Low Impact HiiT, premix that combined #1 and #2. I always find #1 (the one that doesn't use dumbbells) harder because Cathe moves so fast. I hope everyone has a good weekend. I'm going tech-free again, so I'll see you Monday.

we were planning a montana trip next weekend. looking very iffy. weather is terrible there with snow wind subzero temps. the weather here is not great but the area between here and montana is rugged. we usually don't go if the drive is likely much longer than usual. if the weather was moderating this week that would be different but its doesn't look like it. stays cold all next week. the snow will stay here. we wont be able to get down our driveway. we always allow for that. we can get it plowed. but its cold windy and snowy, it will fill back in in a few hours. we cant get it plowed 2x daily. I'm doubtful I can ski by then. Im healing fine but restricted some for a month. I can probably snowshoe but skiing is faster and pulls arms back and forth a lot. whatever. we will debate it as the week goes on. havent been there since fall and would love to go but probably not.

im doing modified therapy work so I dont lift my arm too much. easy to forget because its not sore and does not feel like there is any pulling on the wound. ive awakened and reached up to turn on the light several times before thinking.

enjoy the trip Cathy!.

bras arrived they are very nice but a little snug. they should cover much bigger sizes than i am. so not an ordering error. very nicely made and 3 for $29. amazing.

AHA! I finally got a computer setup that I think will work. It's a very nontraditional way to use a keyboard tray, LOL.

Valerie - I hope the weather lets you go to Montana. Maybe you could watch yourself in a mirror with some moves and see how much the moves actually pull on the stitches? Sometimes doctors can be overly cautious, but of course they want you to be safe. Wow, just one bra for $29 would be amazing.

Cathy - you get an A+ for spontaneity!! Enjoy the trip and time with your sister.

Judy - I'm glad you didn't get a lot of ice. Maybe it will melt soon. I hope your rest days this week rejuvenated you.

This morning I did Jessica Smith’s One Mile of Motivation, 15 minutes, 107 calories burned, average heart rate 135, and maximum heart rate 153. Then I did STS 2 Chair Yoga, another 21 minutes. The yoga felt really good and was exactly what I needed.

Shannon, great job with RWH Low Impact HiiT one and two. I hope your new computer set up works for you.

Judy, great job with the 30 minute Peloton Total Body Strength after working a 4 hour shift.

Cathy, it’s wonderful that you can join your sister in NC on such short notice. Enjoy!

Valerie, the weather conditions really don’t look promising for a trip. Maybe it will look better next week.

Hello to Diane Sue.

shannon there are stitches underneath the skin that are more important. somehow the existing wires that go to my heart are connected to the new pacer, plus the pacer itself is sewed in place with dissolving sutures. not much shows on the surface. I dont want to pull anything loose so I will cooperate.

we have cameras at our house we can look at our driveway and also the back of the house. there is a lot of snow there. a lot!! it tends to blow into hard rock drifts. you cant even shovel them. it is snowplow hard. most years there is not a big problem or wind changes around and they dissipate. there are 6 mountain passes between here and there, all of it interstate. there have been closeed or detoured sections. it has to be clear all the way. not "snowfree" but not blizzard conditions etc. we arent certain at all but if our driveway is badly snowed in it is a long walk to our house dragging supplies through deep snow. the last several years there were no issues. this might be the exception. we will see.

did a yard walk today thru the snow and doing therapy again in a few minutes.

This morning I did 30 Minute Kickbox Express and LITE Body Weight and Bands. Long day yesterday. Took me about 13 hours. Mainly because I stopped a fair bit. I get dehydrated when I don't drink enough, so that means more stops. LOL Weather was okay till the last couple hours when it rained on and off but never hard. I-40 still has a section closed for maybe another year repairing it, I had a 50 mile detour on two lane roads. No semi's allowed. And that's because in one small town there were 2 super sharp curves that they wouldn't be able to do. It goes along the French Broad River which has so much damage from the hurricane. Trees down and still in the river, even some vehicles that ended up alone the shore, areas where rocks just got piled up. traffic was super slow and kept slowing down and never getting up to speed. Hoping a different time of day will speed things up.

Valerie I totally get the changing forecasts. Since I arrived last night, the forecast in here has changed 3 times. We're going out in a bit to hike trails.

Cathy I envy you having a sister who's normal. both brother and sister are nut cases although in different ways. I cant imagine spending any time with either of them.

we will plan for a trip but not optimistically. cant even see our driveway. we would have to pay someone to clear it. impossible with a shovel or a snowblower. the wind packs the snow into rock hard drifts depending on which way it blows. its usually from the southeast. we erected a series of snow fences to stop the drifts from forming. this time it blew from the north so it piled up in unusual places. the wind blows so hard and constantly there, its a bigger factor than anything else. our neighbor used to clear the driveway for us if it wasn't too badly blocked. he is our friend who moved last fall. there is another neighbor with a skid steer . its open sided a lot like a Bobcat but it would be unpleasant to use in snow and wind and cold temps. it will depend on how bad the drifting is. we dont want him putting himself in danger. we pay him of course but a lot of work. if there is too much snow it will fill in the plowed area as fast as he can clear it.

Yesterday I did 50 minutes of Peloton Rides and 45 minutes of Yin Yoga. Today I went for a 20 minute walk with my husband, then I did 20 minutes of rowing and 20 minutes of upper body strength.

Shannon-Great job with the RWH Low Impact HiiT, premix. I hope you are having a nice weekend.

Valerie-Great job with your modified therapy work and the yard walk. That is a good deal on the bras. I’m going to have to check amazon more often for things like that.

Carolyn-Great job with One Mile of Motivation and STS 2 Chair Yoga.

Cathy-Great job with 30 Minute Kickbox Express and LITE Body Weight and Bands. I hope you are enjoying your trip. I agree with Shannon, you deserve an A+ for spontaneity!

Hi to Diane Sue

I did a treadmill walk for 35 minutes uphill and brisk. then 10 more on the spin bike, and finally therapy work. tomorrow we want to do a park walk. abut 99% sure we will cancel the trip. getting another big storm next weekend.

Today I was going to do lower body, but my knee has been hurting off and on. It was hurting sitting at my granddaughter's house. No swelling or anything. I forgot that I tripped on the doorsill from the garage into my son's house and landed on that knee. My dog was dragging me into the house all excited and I was not watching where I was going, I guess. I decided not to push it today so just did Raw Kickbox#5, 257 calories, 39 minutes, heart rate 138/168, 2,107 steps. I finished with Raw Yoga Stretch, 14 minutes, 34 calories.
Yesterday I did Perfect Pump Upper Body and the extended stretch. Things have been busy. We spent Wednesday and Thursday at our granddaughter's house in Tulsa. I am trying to get housework done and working on set up for my ladies group valentines gathering I am hosting Tuesday and family birthday's next Saturday. I hope the weather is decent Tuesday. Forecast is showing chances of freezing rain and snow starting later in the day and into Wednesday.
