Cathlete
Good morning,

Today I did Disk 23 from STS Meso 2, Legs. Wow, my legs are still tingling. This is a great workout. I only subbed for the low plane lunges, I used my leg extention attachment and did those instead. I am still not sure about those paper plate slides. I don't even get half as far down as Cathe and the crew do for some reason, and I know that my knee is going over my toe, the big "no-no" when doing any type of lunges.

Beautiful and sunny here today, although still cold. I like seeing the sun,

A question for anyone: have you ever used those Aqua Globes for watering plants? I have 3 of them in hanging plants, and cannot seem to figure out if they are working.

Anyway, have a good day and rest of the weekend!

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did Rockin' Models (70 min.).

Wish I could help you, Deb, but I know nothing about Aqua Globes. Sunny here as well but it was only 0 degrees when I woke up, and the wind is still a bit wild. Yesterday the wind was howling, but at least no power lines went down. More snow coming tonight. Blech! I am really, really tired of winter.

Just an aside on that knee over toe thing. When I did PT a few years ago for my knees and said I didn't think I should do these forward lunges because he seemed to be demonstrating them as definitely a knee way over the toe, he said that was ridiculous because every time you walk up stairs you are lunging your knee over your toe. I told him this was always the warning on my exercise videos and he just shook his head. I went ahead and did them and he assured me it was functional fitness. I don't know now what to believe. I certainly did not hurt my knees doing what he told me to do. I had a big dowel in my hand and lunged forward about 20 times on each knee.

Went to see The Fighter. Christian Bale is absolutely brilliant in this film. It was really good.

We did a long snowshoe yesterday, around 5 hours. we were surprised at the amount of snow, about 18 inches of dry, fluffy, glistening, fresh snow. definitely a lovely day, wonderful snow, blue skies. cold and crisp but warm in the sun. it was SO darn NICE we went back today and skied another road nearby. Really nice, about 4 hours up and back. also a fair effort but gotta go while the weather & conditions are good. so tomorrow is supposed to be nice too, so we're mt biking for a trifecta weekend.

the thing is, we can drive there with zero problems, and no snow at home so it's like the "good" parts of snow without any of the bad parts of snow and winter.

Josie must be half way thru her push ups and sit ups by now! Carry on, Josie!

I ate a lot (no junk) and sticking to my diet. can't do those hours and not eat a little more, especially in cold weather carrying weight and going uphill.

I am so pleased at how much I'm able to do without getting tired or sore. Thank you, Cathe.

I don't knwo what Aqua globes are either. Duhh...

I do the paper plate slide things as well as I can and don't worry much about where my knee is. I try to go "straight" down rather than leaning forward because it seems to work the glutes more that way but as long as it doesn't hurt I don't worry much. I don't get as low as they do either but I get lower than I did at first. Good enough. I try to push the lead foot out further, makes it work the butt/upper leg area. a big problem area for a lot of women, including yours truly.

Also got a shingles vaccine on friday. It's recommended for anyone over 60. I had shingles when I was in my 20's and don't want to revisit THAT again. the vaccine reduces your chances of getting it at all, and reduces severity if you do happen to get it. the shot didn't hurt but it's still itchy red and swollen on the back of my arm.

Good morning!

Today I did a new treadmill workout, found a site that has MP3 downloads for $3.99. I love Itread and Cardio Coach but neither has had anything new in a long time. This new one has all kinds of music, different BPM, etc. She is a little kooky, sings along with the songs etc, but not bad for $3.99. 35 minutes, 235 calories burned.

Aqua Globes are those glass globes you put in plants, filled with water so you don;t over or under water the plant. It is supposed to "know" when it needs water, and then you just fill the globe when it's empty. Anyway, I took them out, cleaned them, and refilled. We'll see.

Garance, thanks for the info on the lunge, knee over the toe thing. It does make sense that you do that all the time walking up stairs.

Valerie, great job on the snow shoeing...wow, I don't know how you do it!

We got 2-3 inches of snow last night...when will it end?

Hi to Joan, Josie & Cathy,

Take care,

Went to bed at midnight and woke up at 3am so decided to work a little. I think I'll try to get a little more sleep in a minute.

No exercise or walking, all I do is work. Diet is going well so far.

I do watch my knees in lunges just because I can feel it. It doesn't seem to matter in squats.

pretty cold so haven't gone anywhere yet today but probably will do the mt biking plan. sunny and clear again. can't believe we got such nice weather all weekend.

Lynda, I'm thinking about trying the milky way cake but I don't want a whole cake sitting here calling to me. I'll allow myself a small piece. Have you ever frozen it?

Yipes Joan, how can you function on 3 hours? I'd be DOA.

so far, so good on not getting DH's headcold. I think I'm going to get by this virus.

Josie is still doing pushups...

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did KCM's double Bootcamp circuit (55 min.).

Valerie, I have never tried freezing that cake, but it's so dense and moist, I cannot imagine it would dry out like ordinary cakes do from freezing. After I have one slice, DH just goes right through it, a slice a day at lunch. He says it gets better and better. That's a whole lot of snowshoeing. Surely you can have a piece of cake or two after all those calories burned.

Deb, nothing like some new workouts to spice things up. Is there a pushup smiley icon for Josie somewhere? Maybe a grimacing icon would work better, with some sweat flying.

What are you eating on your diet, Joan? Or.....what are you NOT eating?

Hi to Josie and Cathy!

I'm going to try the cake tomorrow, after I get the candy. I'm pretty good about ignoring desserts but if frozen, I can spread it out and have a couple slices. DH usually eats most of them, but spaces it out. If I work really hard, a small piece is OK. we have a 5 day vacation coming so "no frosting" travels better. we have a freezer in our camper, and if not in the camper, we'd be renting a cabin so frozen will work there also.

Did some biking this morning but only an hour. weather was pooping out and it was kind of muddy, didn't feel very special after all the lovely snow. still, even an hour is respectable enough. riding up the hills is very good thigh work.

Deb, the whole reason I exercise is so I can do the stuff I love. skiing and snowshoeing and biking are "work" in a sense, but I love it so it's fun. not the same as plugging out endless miles on a treadmill.

I'm waking up every night with my stomach growling and as of this morning I've lost a pound. this will be a long process.

Yesterday was-
B-tea
L-tuna over spinach, apple, melba toast
D-hamb patty, asparagus, orange, melba toast

Today was-
B-tea
L-eggbeaters, cucumber, apple, melba toast
D-tuna over spinach, orange, melba toast

I cheated and had my orange flavored green tea-0 calories.:p

Joan

Good morning,

Today I did STS disk 24 Chest, shoulders and triceps. Glad that is over with. It is 13 degrees here and we did not get the snow overnight that was predicted. Still a lot on the ground though. This has been a bad winter.

Valerie, let us know how that Milky Way cake turns out. Are you following some type of eating plan or just cutting portions? What is the amount you want to lose?

Garance, the workout was ok, I like the interval type better, that is what Cardio Coach and I-Treads are. I will try to find a smiley for Josie. I wonder if she could even move after what she was supposed to do.

Joan, I would be starving. I don't think tea is a cheat! ( unless you put tons of sugar in it or something).

Stay warm!

I'm really not any more hungry than on any regular diet. I wasn't to have the orange tea because of something about the oil in the orange rind might interfere with the fat loss. They same about the carbs in broccoli, gr beans and cauliflower but I might "cheat" with them later.

WI today was 163.4lb.

I was exhausted last night so went to bed about midnight. Still no time for exercise but hope I can sneak in a little walking.

Hope everyone is doing great.

Joan

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Jazzercise Dancin' Abs (60 min.).

Deb, you have me thinking that maybe I should start meso 2 in April. Meso 1, as I recall, is the one with all those pushups. I agree with you on this winter. It has been really cold and snowy. We had another dusting yesterday and both yesterday and today it's been 0 degrees when we get up.

Wow, Joan, that is a really Spartan diet. Is it some kind of plan? It sounds even more restrictive than the first two weeks of South Beach. Hope it works for you!

Valerie, the Milky Way cake would be easy for camping. It does not fall apart, you could eat a slice like a piece of pound cake, and it does not dry out. Let me know if you like it.

Josie, you have been awfully quiet about your weekend. How was it? Are you sore?

We got a little snow last night, probably inch and a half..... people were crashing everywhere. When I was heading out to yoga this morning a guy in a big 4x4 truck was crosswise at the top of the hill to the freeway, parked in the middle of the road totally in everyone's way. no idea what he was doing, no wrecks down hill I "Subaru-ed" around him and went on down the hill. I'd already come down a much bigger hill from my house. it's not a pretty sight here, no one knows how to drive. we're supposed to get a bigger dump tomorrow but it's a day off for us. probably won't do anything outdoorsy. roads will be a mess and wrecks everywhere. even if a wreck is someone else's fault, it's still a wreck. best to keep off the roads if we don't NEED to go somewhere.

we're reconsidering our 5 days vacation. planned on skiing but seems silly to drive 7 hours for skiing when we have better snow here. that's what the cake is for, if we ski all day, we get dessert!

Maybe Josie can't keyboard ... her arms are in slings after those 300 pushups!

Deb, my diet is cut what I normally eat. oatmeal with splenda and a fruit for breakfast, a skim milk latte.
lunch is soup or a black bean burger with salsa, lettuce, tomato, no bun. I've cut most bread.
Dinner is a salad, a vegetable ( 2/3 of the plate) and half serving of whatever I make for a main. vegies are usually cauliflower, green beans, asparagus, mushrooms. for snacks if I have any, an 1/2 to 1 apple with a little peanut butter. I have dry white wine with dinner. dessert =50 cal piece of dark chocolate.

If a big exercise day, the regular oatmeal, later 1 piece ww toast with PB & J. a cup of instant soup 120-170 cal, hot chocolate 100 cal, small amt cheese/crackers, half an orange. small square of chocolate. I cannot go as low as Joan is doing. I also hate tea and tuna so I couldn't do that. Joan is not exercising as much.
I am waking up very hungry every night so it must be low enough. I am ravenous in the morning and could not skip breakfast no matter what. I pay close attention to calories in deciding what to make for dinner mains. I use real olive oil vinaigrette on my salads. Sounds pretty lush and luxurious compared to Joan!

will do either high reps or sts total body today.

You might be able to tell I'm hungry when I get mad that a teaspoon size area on my apple is brown and I can't eat it.:) Oh well at least it's only for 3 weeks.

Good morning,

No workout today, DH went to class last night, which means I get to wake up when he gets home, then discovered he left some papers that he needed at the training hall, and decided to go back to get them. This meant he was going to come back even later, and wake me up again. Ugh. I turned off the work out alarm and tried to get some sleep.

It's 10 degrees here now, but going up to a hot and sultry 30 or so.

Joan, what will you do after the 3 weeks are over? Maybe you should try something like South Beach. The first 2 weeks are the hardest, but like Garance said, they are nothing compared to what you are doing now. oh, and I would have eaten the brown part of the apple! LOl.

Garance, I like Meso 2 the best of all 3. I am doing week 4 of this Meso, and when I get tired if this one, I may go back and do week 1, then start it from there. Yesterday when I did it, I fast forwarded through the one minute rests, so that I was doing maybe 30-45 seconds instead. I like the drop sets in this one. That cake sounds killer delicious!

Valerie, how do you make a black bean burger? or do you buy them pre-made? I cannot eat one piece of chocolate. Ever. Once I start, I am like an alcoholic with one drink. DH gave me 8 oz of sponge candy for valentines day and I ate the whole thing. I attribute that to going off my eating plan in Tucson. Too much white flour stuff and desserts. My system was not even craving sugar at all, but once I put that stuff back in, it started the craving roller coaster again. I am glad I am home and back on track. I actually gained 2 pounds while away. I should e-mail my SIL in Seattle and see how they are doing in the snow. She cracks me up with describing how everything is closed down. She lives on a hill type driveway too and says they can't get up the drive when its icy.

Enough jammering....gotta run, take care!

I started at 165lb on 2/18 Friday and weigh 162.4 today.

I cheated again besides the tea I had 25 calories hot chocolate and a 10 calorie melba toast.

After the 3 weeks you eat about the same for another 3 weeks but just more protein , fruit and veg. After the total of the 6 weeks you start adding "regular" food back in to see what you can eat. You weigh everyday and if you gain you cut back.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Booty Barre (64 min.). My legs are fried.

Deb, you have just about convinced me to start with meso 2 in April. I will continue to do barre stuff for my legs.

Below zero here this morning.

Joan, you call that CHEATING?!

Big afternoon teaching 8 1/2. Love Fellini.

did High Reps yesterday. I like it. and a really good Ab workout that I can almost do all of. not quite. Did all the pushups om toes though not a ridiculous number. I don't like the Tricep section. several of the moves don't seem focused enough so I will sub light dumbbells for the band. Cathe uses the band several times overall, but two tricep moves don't seem effective to me. I like dips, and doing opposite, pushing up from the floor sitting does not work well for me. It goes fast, but if you record your weight used the first time thru, then it's OK. so overall I like this workout, a good fairly fast overall workout. I'll repeat STS total body again too . they have blurred together in my memory.

Good luck with that Joan. I can't eat so little and still exercise. my blood sugar falls and I feel awful. I'm unable to function without carbs. the Atkins diet was awful. only lasted a couple days.

we got snow, probably about 5 inches so far. DH cleared the driveway etc. It's still pretty warm but is supposed to get colder maybe 20 or so. everything will freeze in place. it's spotty so far, some areas got more than others. supposed to get windy . had the power go out briefly twice this morning but back on now. the heavy snow pushes down tree branches and they bounce off the utility wires. We don't have to go anywhere today, not a good day for optional trips.

Lynda, the cake is very good. I didn't grease the pan well enough ( be warned) and the part of the top stuck in the pan. I got it out in one piece and stuck it back on. DH had a piece this morning after shoveling and says it's very good but I'm not sure he is crazy about it. He likes chocolate better. I will have some later. It is definitely not light! Thank you for the recipe. I will freeze it and dole it out for snacks when we ski.

I get the black bean burgers frozen at costco. they're spicy and good. if I have one with salsa, lettuce and tomatoes it's a good lunch. I crumble 2 corn chips on top instead of using bread or buns.
we're different. If I have zero sweets, the craving builds up and up until I feel like eating a whole cake. I'm good at having a small piece of chocolate and not over doing. I chew it slowly and savor it.

Hi Ladies,

I'm still alive! I ended up splitting the wo by doing 100 push up and 166 squats per day.
I did half in the morning and half in the evening. Yesterday's workout was; dead lifts, squats with 25lb barbell and squats with an overhead press, 10 of each x 6.

Today we had our nutrition class. I'm still down only 4 pounds in 6 weeks, but I did overeat during my trip to Palm Springs and over the past weekend. We ate out every day.
I was very hungry after the workouts this weekend.

Have a great evening! Have to get back to work.

Josie
