Good morning,

The plan is to do some type of workout this morning, not sure if I want to do the first one from the BB plan again , It seems like I get that one done on Sunday, then crap out for the rest of the week.

Valerie, I have never been to our Blaine office, but know that it is a pretty busy crossing, not like what we have here though. We have around 6000-8000 trucks cross the Peace Bridge to and from Canada each day. And that is only one crossing, we have another about 20 miles north that has the same amount. The stuff that is coming out about how cattle and chicken are raised is very scary. I want to start buying meat from local farmers ( like Lynda's DH) because supermarket meat is most likely laced with antibiotics, or even worse in the future it will be from processing plants in China!

Lori, I went car shopping yesterday too! Just looking around though...not in any need, but figure since mine is 6 years old, it's time to replace it while I can still get a decent price for it.

Hi to Lynda, Judy & Josie,

Take care,

Deb, I have no idea how much traffic goes thru this portal, but it's most of the commercial trucks heading down I-5. that was why it was such a big deal when the I-5 bridge collapsed last summer. it is a very busy road with no good alternates.

I'm not so sure the meat itself has any antibiotics left in it... I think most antibiotics are metabolized and then residue excreted by the animal. but any bacteria on the animal parts may have become resistant to the antibiotics it's been treated with.
the billions of bacteria that normally grow in and on all of us, people and animals, "normal flora" so to speak, has been routinely exposed to antibiotics. those bacteria evolve in time to become immune to the drugs. ( anyone who questions evolution need look no further for proof it exists) when bacteria used to be killed easily by one or two doses, now it takes many doses, stronger drugs, or combinations of drugs. combine that with people becoming semsitive or allergic, sometimes to whole classes of antibiotics ( I can't take tetracyclines for example) and infections are getting harder to treat.

most people agree that drugs can and should be used in animals if the animal is sick... but what's happening now is that low dose antibiotics are incorporated into regular animal feed for no particular reason. in crowded, feedlot conditions it may head off illness due to crowded conditions, and animals grow a little faster. the end result is all antibiotics are losing effectiveness and some bacterial infections may become untreatable.

this will become a huge problem in human medicine in the near future. My cousin is still dealing with the c.diff infection ( this has been MONTHS) and was being seriously considered for a "poop transplant" with DH being the poop donor. it is looking like it won't be necessary but it was close to being the next step. I am on the potential donor list too, if DH was rejected for some reason.
these same bacteria can easily contaminate produce in water run off from livestock fields, getting on lettuce, melons, get on the bottom of boots of farm workers who climb ladders and then get bacteria on their hands which gets on the fruit they pick... well it just goes on and on. so nothing is truly totally safe, even for vegetarians.

There.. this should get Sunday morning discussion off to an interesting start!!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did RK (55:16) with 1 lb. gloves.

Cold and rainy here. It's really weird to see how slowly my peonies and iris are coming up. Slowest spring ever in my memory.

I love my old Honda CRV (2005) and DH has a Honda Civic 1992 with well over 100,000 miles on it. DH has trucks that are even older. He has, I think, a farmer mentality about equipment and he's a Yankee miser as well--at least about some things. Not sure when I will get a new car!

Deb, I think what Valerie is describing is similar to what I read about the chickens and antibiotic resistant bacteria. Maybe this week you won't be so preoccupied with strange phone calls, alarms going off at your new building, and your new working environment.

Judy, I really loved my old Firms. I guess they were mostly circuit workouts, and all of the women working out were pretty glamorous, especially the leaders--Susan Harris, Janet Jones-Gretzky, Sandahl Bergman, Jayne Poteet. I kept up with the newer ones as well, but the first 6 were definitely the most expensive and under the development of Anna Benson (?). I think they all came out again on dvd recently and were selling pretty well at Collage.

Lori, isn't a Fiat very small? Or, at least when I was in Italy, there were a lot of tiny little Fiats cruising around Rome and Florence at crazy speeds.

I meant to comment on the car debate. we buy new and run them forever. I have an '04 subaru forester >100,000 that I love more than the new one, a 2014. sometimes new is not necessarily better. the seat belt chime on the new one drives me crazy because it goes off constantly. I don't think I'd buy another Sub..it is that annoying.... or I will refuse to purchase until they disable the chime. I wear the belt all the time but sometimes one needs to disconnect to reach into the back seat, or back down a driveway and the blasted thing chimes and chimes until I'm ready to rip it out of the dash. our ford truck ('11) is much more forgiving. It has a grace period so you can disconnect for a minute before it dings, and then the tone is not as annoying. so is the 04 forester. so it must be some kind of new thing. I will not buy a new car again without checking this feature.
I don't fit in newer cars well. I'm short and push the seat forward to reach the pedals. I get too close to the wheel and it's hard to reach the seat belt behind me.

Lori, any car that needs expensive repairs that soon is one I'd trade in right after the repair. we had a truck we loved but it was not heavy duty enough and the transmission went out twice, first warranty, second we paid. we traded it in right after.. expensive mistake on our part.

Good evening ladies!

What a long two days. We ended up spending most of the day yesterday at the dealership test driving cars. We ended up buying 2 cars. DH's car was close to 100,000 miles and we have been researching cars for him the past couple of months so it made since just to bite the bullet and get two. Doing this gave us plenty of leverage and we feel we ended up with a great deal. My DH is a great negotiator. I should loan him out! I bought a ford focus hatchback and DH bought the fusion. We picked them up today and are happy with our choices.

Lynda...yes the fiat is a very tiny car. I loved the car itself just not the problems. After the news of the cam shaft I was done.

Judy...I loved my Firm tapes too. My favorite was the total body one with Susan Harris. I actually ended up buying it on dvd. To me it is certainly not as hard as a Cathe but it was fun and a great workout.

Deb...wish you luck on your car shopping. It is such a long draining process. I do not enjoy it all but do like the end result.

Valerie...it is so scary these days with food. No matter how much you try and eat the right thing there is always something.

My brother received the results back and the tumor is in fact cancerous. It did not spread and they feel it has all been removed by taking the majority of his pancreas. I thought they took the entire pancreas but he corrected me and told me they did leave some behind.

Have a good night all! Hi to Josie!

Good morning,

Up early to take my cousin to the airport, she's off to Hilton Head where it's 80 and sunny.

it was a nice weekend, but reality sets in now that it's Monday.

Valerie, Buffalo is the second busiest port on the northern border, the busiest being Detroit. I read that we are actually getting the antibiotics in our system, somehow from the meat we eat, and that is why our bodies are needing stronger ones and new different ones because we are resistant.

Lynda, I do like my car, but John really wants me to get a newer model. I will get the same car, only newer and one of the upgraded model, I think. We picked up my Saab from storage Saturday, that car is 20 years old! Next time they are up, I will be getting historic plates for it. Love those old Firms too, I wonder if I could get through that first one with Susan now.

Lori, Good news about your brother... the fact that they got all of the cancer is wonderful! yes going in to buy 2 cars would give you leverage for sure! I need you to send your DH here, I am not good at negotiating, and neither is John. He would just buy it at the sticker price if it meant no hassle. We were looking on the lot on Saturday, saw the same salesman that sold me my current Subaru, and when I got home I already had an e-mail from him.

Hi Josie & Judy,

Take care,

Hi Ladies,

I went to spin class with a dear friend then we went for a walk then breakfast another walk and then took the body pump class on Saturday. She loved it and wants to do it again, she does cross fit and marshal arts. We met while training for a marathon and have bee friends for the last 10 years. Yesterday's ride was only 54 miles but very hilly and it was 85 degrees which made it harder. I only have one more long ride of 77 miles with lots off hills before I taper down.

Lori, my DH is also a great negotiator :). We have alway gotten great deals on our cars. We usually lease our cars, but when I retired I decided to buy my car because it has bumper to bumper coverage and I love it. My DH plans on doing the same thing next year when he retires.

Hi to Valerie, Deb, Judy and Garance!

Josie

"only" 54 miles? and 85 degrees. I don't like heat but road biking is more forgiving because of the wind you generate but that is still impressive Josie.

Deb, I just noticed that we somehow lost the t & e and we became "penaganarians."'

I'm not going to claim "expert" level on all that is happening with antibiotics. it seems reasonable that chickens/cows/pigs that get antibiotics every day in their food will carry some residue in their tissues. bacteria that are routinely exposed to antibiotics are evolving into organisms that are harder and harder to kill when they set up residence where they cause problems, like in your bladder, however they got there.. I don't understand... industry seems to use unlimited amounts for no reason other than making money. I know that unless I REALLY need antibiotics I don't take them. so many people want antibiotics right away for minor issues, and that's a problem in itself. My cousin has been on a marathon of meds since last fall with the c. diff infection and is still not right but finally improving.

Lori will your brother need chemo or radiation? good to hear he's doing so well.

my friend is not doing well. she developed a serious heart condition related to the long term stress and medication conflicts and insurance conflicts... don't want to pay for the pain meds that have been working for her. this is not going smoothly for her. her DH has been speaking for her for a long time now.

I did Cardio supersets along with Core 1 yesterday. we are back in rain for days though it's not as cold. sometimes spring is pretty wintery.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did LLA (48:33).

Deb, did you ever do a workout yesterday? The improvements in cars in recent years are phenomenal. Soon they will be driving themselves and we can just sit and watch the road go by. They are already doing parallel parking by themselves! Hilton Head sounds wonderful right now. It is still chilly here, primarily because of a gusty NW wind. "Penaganarians" sounds potentially obscene!

Josie, that sounds like a pretty busy weekend with multiple workouts and a lengthy ride. I wish we would get some 85 degree weather here. What kind of martial arts does your friend do?

Lori, glad you bought Fords. We have a lot of their stock in one of our brokerage accounts. Wonder how GM cars are doing with all of the recalls lately.

Hi to Valerie and Judy!

Hi Everyone,

Saturday night I did Leaner Legs from Cross Train Express. I wanted to see how my hip/piriformis held up. I could still feel it a little, but it is better. I want to do this workout again with heavier weight.

Sunday I mowed 2 lawns, my FILs and his neighbor's. The neighbor is 93 and he was just distraught about FIL moving :( They have been neighbors for almost 30 years.
Sunday night we went to Anytime Fitness and I did a back and bicep workouts.
This morning I did an hour of indoor cycling.

Thanks for the reviews of The Firm. I'll have to try one out.

Lori-I'm glad that your brother's cancer didn't spread. Still a hard thing to hear, I am sorry. I wish him the best and hope that he will be ok.
It's great that you bought Fords! DH works at Ford and FIL retired from there.
We drive 2 Escapes. DH has a 2013 and mine is a 2006, with over 160,000 miles on it. I was a Honda fan before I got married but since I married into a Ford family, I had to switch. I admit I still miss my Civic sometimes.

Josie-I would love to have some of that 85 degree weather! We have a frost warning for tonight :( Great job on riding 54 miles! That is awesome!

Valerie-I'm so sorry to hear that your friend is not doing well. I hope things get better for her.

Hi to Deb & Lynda!

Judy

Good evening ladies!

Up late last night and no sleep so no workout today. Didn't workout yesterday either with all the car stuff.

Lynda... Glad I contributed to your retirement by buying a ford! :) I have always been satisfied with Fords.

Judy...I had a 2002 escape that I bought new and traded it in 2012 for the Fiat. It had almost 200,000 on it and it served me well. Just hated the amout of gas I used with my commute. So after the disater Fiat experience I went to something I knew had always been reliable. Been ages since I have done lean legs. If I remember it is a tough one.

Valerie...we do the same as you can see with my escape. We keep our cars forever. Just did not workout so well with the Fiat. So sorry to hear of your friend.

Deb...I do not negotiate at all and same thing here...I would have paid the asking price on both cars. Not only did they knock off $ on the cars they gave my DH a great deal on his trade in. The first number was not what my DH wanted to hear and the dealer was pretty firm. My DH stood up and said oh well I guess we will go now then. I almost died...we were walking out when they called us and gave us an amount my DH was pleased with. I could never have done that.

Josie...have you ever done cross fit? I have not. What I have seen it looks so hard. Kind of scares me a bit! When is the actual date of your ride? Early June?

My brother needs no chemo or radiation just an annual cat scan. I spoke with my doctor and she wants to put me in a study group of some sorts for pancreatic cancer. Apparently I am at a risk with having diabetes and then even higher with a sibling having it. There is always something isn't there?!!

Have a great night!

Good morning,

Very tired today, got home late last night from class. We stayed for a bit to start practicing for our dog team entry in our September obedience trial. The team entry is where 4 dogs and their handlers do the obedience exercises in the ring, under the judge's commands, but have to do them in synch, sort of like synchronized swimming. It's a hoot, because invariably one or more of the dogs decides to do something on their own, messing up the team. They are so unpredictable, but that is the fun of it. Usually there is a team theme, with some type of t-shirts that the people wear, and something matching for the dogs, funny collars or we have even seen hats! We won't do hats, my dogs would not take one step with anything on their heads.

Josie, I wish there was a body pump class here where you didn't have to join a club to do so. They sound like fun.

Valerie, Sorry to hear about your friend, she is a fighter for sure. I'm pretty sure I was half a sleep when I started the thread on Sunday. :)

Lynda, yes I did KCM's Power Sculpting on Sunday, then nothing since. We checked out the weather in Wilmington Ohio, high 70's and 80's, We leave for there on Thursday. We are going to the Wire Fox Terrier specialty show again. Both dogs are entered in 2 different obedience events. Let's see how they do. It will be fun.

Judy, my Dad retired from Ford after 30+ years, we always had Fords. He said there was no way he was parking anything but a Ford in the plant parking lot! Plus the deal you get when you are a Ford employee can't be beat! Your Sunday workout should have been LawnMax!

Lori, great news about your brother! What do they do in the study group?

Work, then home to crash,

Have a great day!

Lori that's been our experience too. we had a Grand Cherokee once and it was always something... so we traded it in fairly early. then the Toyo truck, our second one. first one died in a crash. we were assured that the load we were carrying was just fine but it wasn't. the first transmission failed in the first month so we thought we'd just gotten a lemon, and warranty replacement would take care of the problem. when the second one failed at about 2 years we researched more carefully how much weight the truck could handle, and it was our fault. we'd overloaded it. we've seen many other people do the same thing but we drove it hard over long miles at elevation and it didn't hold up. so it was partly the dealers who told us it would be just fine, but we should have read the numbers. so we upgraded to a Ford 350. quite the jump from a Toyo Tacoma!

My father used to work for American Motors and that was the deal. could not park in the company lot if you drove some other brand of car.

Lori I would participate in the group. you will probably get free preventive testing and be tracked for problems catching them very early.

I know my friend is a fighter but I am saddened by the way this is going. the heart issue is likely to be a self correcting one (brought on by extreme stress) and will resolve after the stress is reduced. It is disturbing to hear squabbling about which drugs they will pay for and which they won't and it is just common pain relievers nothing exotic.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Afterburn (54:00).

Deb, are both Keegan and Kylee on the same 4-dog team? That sounds like a comedy act and a lot of fun.

Judy, there is a frost warning here for tonight as well. What weights did you use on LLA? I just do 8s like Cathe. The one exercise I don't particularly like on this one is where you put the dumbbells down on the floor and swing your leg around, get up and do a shoulder press. A lot of grunting and groaning. I also feel somewhat awkward on those forward lunges at an angle. Otherwise I like this workout and really feel the band work.

Lori, that study group sounds like a good idea. I did not know that there was a link between diabetes and pancreatic cancer. My DH is a very good negotiator, although one time I was even better because I didn't like the color of the Mountaineer they had on the lot and they kept coming down so I would go with the green color. That Mountaineer was good when our boys were doing soccer, baseball, wrestling, and basketball and we were constantly on travel teams. But it was more like a truck than a car and I looked pretty funny hoisting myself in on the driver's side.

Valerie, that is so unsettling to hear about insurance companies refusing certain drugs--especially painkillers. Adding a stress factor to a life-threatening condition is just inhumane.

Hi to Josie!

Lynda that is my thought exactly.. you're fighting for your life, things are going wrong due to the stress of the situation, and insurance doesn't want to pay for oxycontin but wants you to use morphine sulfate? that should be decided by the doctors and the patient and what works best in the situation. it's nickel/dime stuff!!

Good evening ladies,

Today was a great leg day. This morning was ruthless wicked lower legs and tonight was disc 26 plyo legs. Needed this after slacking off and eating all the wrong things and them some this weekend.

I spoke more with my doctor and it is a genetic clinical group out of Dana Farber. I had no idea that diabetes increases the risk until she mentioned this. I am going to do more research and then a sibling. It does make since to get screened every now and then.

Lynda...I know exactly which move you are talking about in LLA. Matter a fact I substitute plyo squats with over head presses. I feel very awkward doing Cathe's move so I don't! Great job negotiating!!

Valerie...it is so sad with insurance companies now a days. When you are in pain and going thru a tragic time in your life why not make a person more comfortable. It is the right thing to do.

Deb...I agree with Lynda I bet the dogs can be really funny at times!

Hi to Judy and Josie!!!!!

Morning....

Last day of work before going away, that is probably why I am stressed. So much going on at work, and leaving, even for 2 days is stressing me out. I just found out yesterday that I have 11 vacation days left, to be used before June 1. I can carry over 5 of them, but still have to get 6 used or I lose them. Talk about stress...

Valerie, it is so frustrating when you hear about people's lives and well being, decided by some insurance companies polices or whatever.

Lynda, yes, both John and I. with Keegan and Kylee will be on the team. Our first practice wasn't too bad, except Kylee does everything that the other handlers call out for their dogs to do. That is going to be hard to correct, but we'll try.

Lori, good job on the leg workouts. Do you get DOMS when you double up like that? It may be a good thing to go into that study. Is your brother diabetic?

Hi to Judy & Josie,

Work, then home to pack, give the key to girl coming to the house while we are gone to feed Fritz, etc etc....at least the temps in Ohio are supposed to be in the 80's, finally some warm weather.

Take care,

Hi Ladies,

I did not workout on Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday I had an eye appointment and a dentist appointment. Today I will be spinning and tomorrow is a body pump day.

Deb, good luck on the competition. Hope your baby's behave :)

Lori, the ride starts June 1st and ends the 7th. We are leaving on Friday the 30th and the 31st is orientation day. Only 24 more days before the ride. Glad that you DB is doing well.

Garance, I hope that you get better weather soon.

Valerie, I had a Toyota 4runner for 15 years and my DD got to use it for a year before she bought her car and then our DS bought it from us. I loved that car :). Sorry your friend is not doing well.

Hi to Judy!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Burn Sets bis and tris (37:00).

Finally, some decent weather! Sunny and in the 60s today, and the temp should go up over the next few days.

Deb, I think Kylee should get extra credit for doing what everyone else is commanding their dogs to do! Can you just take off those vacation days anytime you want, or do you feel like your responsibilities at work make that impossible? Given how much you hate Mondays, maybe you should have six short work weeks.

I decided to get a pedicure for sandal-season, and I love my new Robin's Egg Blue toes. They go with a lot of my dresses and my Coach bucket bag. Now if I can just start wearing them!

Lori, I guess plyo squats are even less appealing for me. I just do plié squats on RK because I don't like the impact.

Josie, the countdown begins--I can just envision you crossing off the days until the big ride.

Hi to Valerie and Judy!
