pedicure problems

does anyone else get gnarly feet from their tootsies moving around in your sneakers while you work out? its gross but i get calluses on the bootom of my feet and my big toes have chaffed skin at the tops of them; it happens when i run or do a high intensity step workout. i was wondering if i should buy new sneakers that are a 1/2 size bigger so my feet can move around more easily, but i dont know if this will mess up my form. anyone have the same problem? with summer coming, i want to be able to wear sandals confidently!!

I would try a new brand of sneaker and find something that fits appropriately. Your feet will be much happier for it. I also recommend getting some good lotion to keep your feet from getting so dry looking. Creative Nail Design used to make some awesome cucumber heel therapy cream.

I absolutely recommend going half a size up in a shoe. When you first try them on, your feet are relaxed. After a run, they are swollen and enlarged. Giving yourself extra room in the shoes will accommodate the swelling. Also make sure you go shoe shopping at the end of the day, not the beginning.

Try the Ped Egg--that thing is awesome! I can't believe pedicurists are still in business now that we have an easy at-home callous remover.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I had to to up 1/2 to 1 up because my left foot is a little bigger, and when I do alot of running my left bit toe would get bruised from hitting the shoe. It's so sad because I like to wear sandals alot in San Diego and I had to have a fake toenail put on, sorry TMI. Go up a 1/2 size or so.

Make sure you get good socks. They have socks that have good wicking features to keep your feet dry, and then I have some that have different levels of tension around the arch and different areas. I love those socks and they make a huge difference.

I agree w/ trying your fitness shoes on at the end of the day.. it makes a big difference in fit .. my feet will swell up more post workout and also if I've been on them all day.

Going up a 1/2 size is a good suggestion, but depends on the brand. For me, I've found Nike runs true to my regular size, while Asix and Mizuno fit me better at a 1/2 or even 1 size up from my normal shoe size.

Lastly, ITA about socks.. I love Thorlos, but I am not sure if they are even being manufactured anymore. They are the only brand I've tried that doesn't rub and give me blisters when I do long runs.

I get weird calluses, blisters, marks on my feet too.. In a sick way, I'm kind of proud of them, kind of like "war wounds!" (That being said, I still always try to keep the toes polished and cuticles neat... my feet aren't the most beautiful, and w/ color and trimmed cuticles at least I won't have shame!) ;)
