Hello everyone!

For the fans of KB workouts, I would like to recommend this amazing video:

I have been looking for a great and challenging KB workout. Trying a few from my local library (not Paul Katami) they all left a lot to be desired. The instructors either irritated me, did not show proper form (dangerous for KB), or the workout itself was not challenging even with a heavy weight. My poor little bell's were collecting dust. And then I came across this gem. Holy smokes Batman!!! Not only is Paul one handsome looking fellow IMO, but he is one heck of an instructor. Excellent instruction on form, his cuing is fantastic, his workout is A++ HARD. In some ways, this workout reminded me of some of Cathe's, as he uses a high step with the KB moves. What I really liked was that the impact is fairly low, he does not use plyo or jarring movements to elevate the heart rate, yet mine was pounding hard the whole time. The whole body is conditioned and trust me, use the right KB weight and your muscles will feel it the next day (or 2).

I was very impressed with this workout. And YES, I would recommend this without hesitation. I think I'm in love...

Now if only Cathe would come out with a KB workout. She is so fun, challenging and innovative that I am positive she would make one fantastic sweat fest too.

Have a great day everyone :)

I love Paul too! His form, direction and looks are all amazing! I love the burn too! Feel like I really accomplished something when I do his workout!

Hi,

I have all of Paul Katim's Kettle Bell workouts and he is amazing, love him. He always show correct form and always talks about the proper way to execute the move and breaks it down step by step at first. He's great and I always get a serious drenching with his workouts. I also have his Hollywood Bootcamp 4 X 4 which is a non- kettlebell and also awesome. I love that his KB dvd's are very resonable and pocket book friendly. I do have Paul's latest KB workout you mentioned and it is great too. Enjoy the sweatfest!;)

I just looked at this clip and I have a question. I have never used Kettlebells...balls? The workout looks pretty good...but for those who use the kb's: couldn't I just use a 5 lb dumbbell too? If not, why not?

thanks

Hello Tracy,

You could use a weight, but I would not recommend it for various reasons:

1) Unlike traditional dumbbells, the kettlebell's center of mass is extended beyond the hand, distributing the weight differently. The basic movements (the swing, clean & press) engage the entire body. The handle allows for these movements to be safer with added grip.

2) Because of #1, you can go heavier. There would be NO WAY I could swing a 20 lbs dumbbell. Not a chance in hell. But I can with a kettlebell. I would suggest you go lighter at first to see if the weight is challenging without getting injured. I tried 5 lbs and did not even break into a sweat or feel it in my muscles. Some places (ie- the gym, fitness stores) allow you to rent equipment, so you don't have to spend mega $$ going through kettle bell's to see which weight suits you. Once you get the right weight, you can buy a 2nd hand one. The material is so durable, it's unlikely you will get a defective one, even with lots of use.

3) If you want to use a dumbbell first, by all means do so. The moves might feel weird initially, but it takes some time to get accustomed to them. I found that using a dumbbell just felt a bit odd before I bought a KB.

Let me add that about 1 1/2 years ago, I was in a pretty bad car accident, hurting my neck, shoulders & back. With a lot of rest, physio, massage, acupuncture and TCM, I was able to recover. Until then I had to refrain from KB until I got the OK from my doctor. I think you mentioned that you were also recovering from a injury, correct? KB's put A LOT of strain on the neck, back, shoulders. You know your body best.

Hope that helped a bit. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask. I am sure many people on this forum can also add to this just in case I missed anything.

Take care,

Natasha

The best way to deal with any problem more or less like this is to google it. More good option is to hire a personal mentor or to contact your physician who can guide you even more in a medical manner. Thanks for this valuable article dear.

Funny that this post got resurrected... (from a spammer, no less)

I actually lost this DVD during a move a few years ago -- went missing somehow . I purchased it again about 1 month ago. Really glad I did too because this is one hell of a w/o! Totally forgot how kick-butt it is .

Bottom line: KB's are awesome!
