P90X

I WAS READING ABOUT THE P90X IN THE OPEN DISUCSSION. I HAVE THE SERIES AND I DO THINK CATHE IS MORE CHALLENGING. I WANTED TO KNOW HOW MANY TIMES A WEEK PEOPLE WORK ON THEIR LEGS, IS IT BEST TO WORK ONE BODY PART AT A TIME OR DO A WHOLE BODY WORKOUT LIKE MUSCLE MAX, MUSCLE ENDURANCE ETC. CATHE HAS SO MUCH TO OFFER I GET OVERWHELMED SOMETIMES. I USUALLY DO CARDIO ONE DAY AND THEN STRENGTH TRAINING OF SOME KIND ON THE OTHER DAYS. I KNOW SHE HAS THE ROTATIONS JUST WANTED TO SEE WHAT SOME OF YOU DID. A ALSO FIND IT HARD TO TAKE A REST DAY, ANY SUGGESTIONS.

Pick one way (one body part per day) and do that for 4 weeks or so, then switch to total body workouts for a few weeks, then switch it again. Have to keep changing so that the body doesn't get use to the routine and plateau. P90X is a nice series to keep everything mixed up for 3 months.

As for a rest day...you are selling yourself short by not taking one. The rest day is when your muscles have a break to rest, repair and rejuvinate. It gives the body a chance to let all the hard work sink in and get stronger. Exercise tears up the body. Rest repairs it. If all you do is exercise 7 days a week then there is no repair time...no chance for the body to recover.

Hate doing nothing??? Do yoga! Yoga helps you do everything better and helps reduce risk of injury!

When I'm doing a regular rotation (I'm doing the last four weeks of P90X right now), usually a rotation that one of the cleverer members here has devised, I wind up doing one total body strength tape per week, at least three days of cardio, and working the other body parts one more time as well. Oftentimes that will inculde a circuit workout of some sort, bringing the total cardio to four times per week.

I always rest on Fridays. I deserve that much!

A lot of people here use a rest day for stretching/yoga/etc.

HTH!
