P90X Thread Part II

TarHeelMom

Cathlete
Hi folks! I'm just startng us a new thread since the other one is huge.

For those of you still having P90X/Beachbody customer service issues, please look near the bottom of the old P90X thread for my post called "THE STORY OF HOW I GOT MY DVDS" and you'll find in that post the e-mail address for Amber Otto, who's a big customer relations muckity-muck with Beachbody. She's been very helpful to a lot of disgruntled VFers and was great to me, and although I suspect she's swamped right now I believe she'll do her best to respond to you ASAP. In the subject line of your e-mail to her, put "Cathe Friedrich Forums Member/Video Fitness Member -- PLEASE HELP WITH P90X ORDER PROBLEM!" or words to that effect (and leave out the VF part if you're not a member over there, of course. :))

Have a nice day, everyone!

I agree that Amber was quite helpful in getting my order to me quickly. I got it yesterday and sent her a great big "thank you." All I have to say is Yowza! If I hadn't been doing Cathe all these years, there is NO way I'd be ready for P90X!

I really like the strength workouts. I don't care as much for the cardios..even the plyo. I think it is a very nice addition to Cathe, but IMAX 2 is still my fave. I am thinking half of IMAX 2 + some of Tony's Plyo's would be nice. I also prefer Cathe warmups. I will unlikely use this as an official "rotation". I will mix Cathe and Power 90, possibly sticking to Power 90 for strength work for awhile. I don't think it will be possible for me to follow the guide to a tee, since my DOMS seems like it will hang around longer before I hit that same muscle again. Supposed to do Legs and Back tomorrow, but I will have to do something else during back, or switch the tapes around, which I also may do. (Gasp!):)

Cheryl....I really feel for you. I am glad I am NOT you or I surely would have had a heart attack by now. Good Luck! They will be worth the wait (not the aggravation, but....)

Since no one has a weighted chair, how are you guys modifying the pullups? The pushups? I know you all can't do all of them from your toes. Are you doing as many as you can and stopping? All from your knees? Half and half? What about the diamond pushups? I have to do all from my knees and then only a few. Some sets I found completely impossible after so much fatigue. What are you all doing?

Janice

Oh also, on the weight work...are you picking a number of reps and weight and not exceeding that. Tony says to pick a number. I want to stick to around 8-10. Does that mean it should take me the entire time to do 8-10? If I finish early and could still do more, do I need to go up in weights or reps? What do you think? Do you do your set number and then just wait for Tony to finish?

Janice

Hi Janice. The key is to make the last three reps HARD. It's the last three reps that count. This is how you will make your gains. For example, if you reach your 10th rep and have more to give, pump out more, mark down your weights and go heavier the following week.

I always start my push ups on my toes and when I can't do anymore on my toes, I go down to my knees to finish out my reps I need to. For pull ups, I squeeze out what I can and then modify like Dreya does. The further away the chair, the harder it will be and this is my goal. I still want them to be hard. I also like to do negatives. This helps with your pull up strength.

Janice I do 8 reps for everything except where he makes us do more}( I just rest while the others finish unless I fall short of my goal of 8 reps which sometimes happens as the wo nears the end If that happens I set the wts down and rest than pick them up to finish.I don't do only pushups I do 3 sets of 25-40 each set and than add flys and press's.I always vary the pushups but one things for sure 1 arm pushups after all those other pushups aren't happining for me.I'm going to have to put them earlier in the wo.I use my lat tower for pullups but also add pulldowns instend of doing all of the pullups.I can master 6 pullups now that's pretty good consider I wt 137-140(depending on the day):D I try to do 10 I get help from my wt seat on the way up(where I sit to do pulldowns) and raise my legs on the way down that is usually for 4 reps.one day I will do 10 without a assist.I love these dvd's.

I've just got mine today. I had no trouble at all. It came when it was supposed to come, my card only got charged once. Very suspicious....:)

BTW I can hardly wait to start tomorow!

Mine came when it was supposed to, also. This was my third time ordering from them and I had great experiences all three times. It makes me feel "guilty" when I read all the trouble so many are having getting theirs! But BB was pleasant for me to deal with. I sure hope everyone's issues are resolved soon and in a satisfactory way!

I haven't started a rotation yet, though!! I have done Cathe for years and am in the midst of a SS rotation, but I am actually intimidated by P90X!!! But really anxious to start them! I don't really know what rotation I will be doing, or even where to start!!!

Linda

I can't wait to join you girls in rotating this series with Cathe. BB says my order is in the warehouse and was to ship out last night or early this morning. My protein bars came today.... I'll just say they aren't Toffee Cliff bars that I'm addicted to.) I've notified Amber to check on the status of my order and I'm to write in for tracking number tonight or in the morning.

From all the talk, I was wondering about the cardio. I'm thinking to do Cathe's cardio in addition to these workouts as well. I got my tower put together. I needed to have a secure place to do the chin ups plus I wanted the station to do the core work. I've been doing 10 reps of leg raises....with bent arms on the bars, start with legs straight, bend and lift your knees to your chest, until thighs are parrallel to the floor as in a crunch drawing the navel toward the spine until abs contract fully and then slowly lower legs to start position. Good core work!

Hope to get my workouts Soooooooonn!!!!

I was wonding about adding CTX cardio or 30 minute sections of her cardio to these. I wonder if that will be okay?

Linda

Hi ladies,

I can’t wait to join in. I ordered on 5/3 they said they shipped them out on 5/5. Still haven’t received them yet. I hope before the week is out. I'm surprised that they shipped US Postal. I’d think UPS or Federal Express. Really doesn’t matter, I just want them. Happy workout.

I think CTX would be an awesome addition. Only a few days though if you are trying to add muscle mass...

Janice

I've actually done CTX kickboxing after Cardio X. It's a perfect complement to Cardio X. I like it because the intensity level is high from the beginning, so my heart rate doesn't go down too much.

Before I got the bands that I use for pull-ups, I was doing a combination of one-arm rows (one side per set) and pullovers done while lying on an incline (on my Bodywedge21). Now, I'm using the bands that BeachBody sells, attached to a door.

FOr push-ups, I do as many as I can on my toes (which at first wasn't much, but I'm getting better!) then go down to my knees and iincrease the ROM. For diamond push-ups, I usually do a few shallow ROM (no way does my chest touch my hands!) followed by the rest on the knees with a deeper ROM.

As Tony says: do your best and forget the rest. I think that's a great philosophy.

By the way, what is a weighted chair?

I recommend you try the P90X rotation "as is" for one week before you decide whether or not your want to add Cathe cardio to this. The P90X cardio workouts are not as intense as Cathe workouts, but I think there is a good reason for it. The P90X rotations stress muscle growth and strength, and while the cardio workouts seem rather tame when taken out of context, they fit in perfectly with the entire system. If you put your all into the weight workouts, I believe one could risk overtraining by using more intense cardio (especially in the beginning), thus defeating the purpose of the rotation.

Okay, I just broke down and ordered the thing. It was inevitable anyway, so why wait...the credit cards weren't getting any smaller anytime soon, at least I can be working on my health while I'm trying to work on paying of that credit card! :D

RE: I Need a trainer ;-)

Kathyrn, I think I need you for a trainer, at least to consult with as you have lots of expertise in lifting weights, not to mention you have been doing the P90X. These workouts are different, from what I now gathering, and I need to rethink my personal program. Thanks for the heads up.:)

Hello!

P90X really interests me and with all of the positive feedback, it's tempting to get it. Does anyone know if there is a way to preview the workouts (videoclips of the DVDs)? I only saw the trailer on the website.

Thanks!

-Melanie

My first Power90X workout today -- I feel like a traitor here on Cathe's forum.
I started out with Ripped Abs. Only 15 min but very intense with a few unusual moves. After that I did the famous Plyometric. Not as intense as I thought it would be, but definitely something different. I don't think my heart rate was particularly high, maybe on the 120ish or so. (The battery just went dead in my monitor this morning.) Tomorrow I'll do Shoulders and Arms.

First of all....thank you Kathy for starting a new thread!!

Seems to me Kathryn knows what she is talking about. There is a purpose for the classic rotation as is and moving it around is going to produce different results (okay that was obvious). I have had some severe DOMS going on as well. Today I was to do Chest and Back and I was so sore that I ALMOST skipped a day, but I made myself do it and I actually made it through and felt fine. I did not do as many full pullups (I can only do 2.75 now) and I did assisted for the rest which usually amounts to 10-12 more assisted. As Kathryn said..."what is a weighted chair? and why on earth does it need to be weighted?" I use a folding chair and just barely touch my toe to the back of it for the subsequent 10 pullups. It works.

I pumped out quite a few more pushups than usual and this despite the DOMS. You may want to try pushing through some of the soreness unless it is VERY severe. He says the first month is a killer...so I'm planning on being dead most of the time!! I do the pushups on my toes, but I've been doing pushups for a while...it's the pullups that are killers for me.
