P90X or Hardcore?

For those of you that have both series now:

I have fallen out of good shape and am climbing back on the wagon. However, I don't want to do any other tapes than these for a while. I just can't bring myself to do any of the others for some reason! Every time I turn one on I am just so unexcited! I think I am completely burnt with them, and I really dislike the beginner videos. So.......what series is more difficult weight training wise...HC or P90X? I know each can be modified, but what is your opinion?

I know HC will be tougher cardio wise and I will do those cardios instead of P90X if I go the P90X route (how could I not do any HC's?):)

I need the educated opinion.

TIA!

I think your best bet is Hardcore Series. P90X is more for getting out of a rut...in my opinion. It takes you to the "next level" but Hardcore is more versatile. P90X is a 90 day prgram (I am doing it now) but Hardcore you could use those easily all year and not get bored.

HTH...ask anything else you need!

Sarah,

you're a testament to the benefits of working out - you look great, esp. during P90X!

I'd love to know your fitness and definitely eating regimen! Please tell us!

Since October, I have been roughly following the Zone diet and really like it! It is 40% Carbs (good carbs), 30% protein and 30% fat(good fats). I went off it for a bit and once I went back on it, I realized how much I really loved it!

For more information, you can check out www.zoneperfect.com

I have experienced so many awesome benifits. When I follow it, my abs start to show.

A graet book that is short, sweet, to the point and CHEAP is "What to eat in the Zone" by Dr. Barry Sears

I bought many Zone books from ebay and I know half.com would have them too.

Hope this helps!

Sarah......

Do you cheat, or follow the diet very strict? For example, how often would you have a scoop of ice cream or a few cookies?

I cheat too much. I had a rough end on January through first few weeks of February. I was following the P90X eating plan that allowed for just enough whole wheat breaded carbs to make me crave ALL of them really bad! Last week I stopped and returned to the Zone and it is so much easier...no cravings.

My diet is my biggest downfall and I am working to improve it and clean it up. I am not a woman of moderation but I am working on it. Actually, the latest Shape Magazine has an AWESOME article on willpower that I hope will help me. I think if I stuck tighter to a clean diet, my abs would start showing.

I vote P90X ! Hardcore is more "HardcoreCardio" and P90X is more weights. I just love the "pump" I get from P90X, I have done all of the "gym style" from hardcore and none of the give me the PUMP I get from P90X. Hardcore is good, don't get me wrong, but to compare the two P90X is way more muscle building than Hardcore.

If you have bad knees (like me), then I would say go for the Hardcores - I found with all of the plyo work in P90x that my knees just got worse.

Also, I found P90x very "masculine" and it really concentrated on upper body work - not enough lower body work for me.

Just my humble opinion!

Josie :)

p.s. Just to say that I too had fallen off the wagon - so I did 3 weeks of CTX and was amazed by how much my fitness levels improved and how much fun the music was - now I am starting the Hardcore series!

P90x. It's a great series with a different exercises to work the muscles. I have a bad knee and didn't have an issue with the PlyoX workout(I did use my padded exercise mats). True, it doesn't hit the lower body the way most women would like it too but that's easily solved by adding in additional lower body. P90x is less expensive as well.

I'm with Josie in that I think P90X is great for the upper body but weak on the lower. Cathe's cardio is WAY more fun. Way.

I always substitute Cathe lower body work and cardio. The upper body stuff is good; a great alternate to trade off with Cathe upper body.

I think Tony Horton is pretty funny in that he reminds me of some guys I know, always bragging and joking around at the gym. Like he gives the camera a super closeup of his bicep and then pops it up and down--a real goofball. Some people don't like his personality but he makes me laugh.

Cathe's workouts have a bigger fun factor, though.

"You want guns like these...you gotta work hard" - Tony Horton as he shoves his bicep into the camera.

I have heard some people say Tony bothers a lot of people but he never bothers me and I bother VERY EASILY. I think he is funny too. I also think he makes an effort to not be annoying, tries to be fun.

P90X has great upper body workouts but the lower body needs work and so does the cardio. You can sub in Cathe workouts in place, which is smart because you are working harder that way. I think P90X cardio and lower body is too easy. The YogaX workout is a good one, too.

You can buy the P90X and if you hate it, sell it on ebay and get all your money back, or do it for 90 days...then sell it on ebay. Not too many people hate it, though. Especially after they start seeing results. I use to be the biggest whiner in the P90X Rut Busters crew but shut my trap once the results started kicking in.

Let us know what you decide.

I got really bored on P90X. I just rec'd my first Hardcore DVD and I loved it. I'd definitely do the Hardcore for Cardio, as I found Power 90 X was not enough cardio for a women in their 40's.

I vote hardcore: I had the same choice to make and picked PX90. I could cry. Not that I don't like PX90 but I like Cathe better.

I sold my P90X on Ebay. I got bored too, not enough change. I LOVE my Hardcores. I take them any day over P90X.

Every time I turn one on I am just
>so unexcited! I think I am completely burnt with them, and I
>really dislike the beginner videos.

Given that you said this, I would suggest P90X. There is a group of us called the "Rut Busters" that started a P90X rotation check in to combat just this issue! I found that doing something new and different and trying a new style really motvated me and gave me a better outlook. I had been in a rut for a while and now I feel better, look forward to my workouts, etc.

Like Ima said, you can always finish the 90 days and see these off to buy Hardcore! Then, you will have the motivation of yet another new series under your belt!

Good Luck,
Christine

If you have bad knees, they'll hate you if you attempt IMAX3 or High Step Challenge. There's a ton of impact in these workouts. Low Max is a great workout, but Cathe and the gang uses an 8" step for this workout.

Based on your post, my recommendation would be P90X.

One more thing...if you have bad knees, don't be afraid to try the Plyos in P90X. They have modifications and they work very well to reduce knee issues. I have a knee issue and I almost didn't try but I am glad that I did ;)

I agree. There are only two moves that I modified by going to the rebounder, and one that I modified by switching legs more often ( the "cross hops" move). Otherwise the moves didn't give my knees any grief at all.
