P90X Nutrition Plan

I think cleaning up the nutrition side of the equation is a good idea. The combination of the fitness and nutrition aspects of the X is total perfection! There is nothing crazy or mindblowing about the X guide, but I found it REALLY helpful to get my mindset straight, and there are some great recipes in their as well. As Kathryn mentioned, they phase the macronutrient percentages along with the fitness phases. Phase I is hard - very high in protein - 50 / 30 / 20 for protein / carb / fat ratio. The goal here is to shed any fat you need to - they recommend that if you don't NEED this phase, then don't bother with it. I did do it, and found it really useful, but it was very clear when I needed to add some carbs back in. I also found the guide useful for chosing healthy carbs and fats - I am MUCH more educated about all of this now, and really have found a good place for myself. The X gave me a deeper understanding of the whole mind/body connection thing, including how that relates to fuel.

It's NOT a diet. Not by any stretch of the imagination. I'd actually recommend picking up both the nutrition and fitness guides if you don't have them - either borrow them, or you can purchase them from BB (I think for $25 for the set).

Hey Laura we are about at the same point. I've started week 6 of classic today. :) I was quite tired week 4 and since my favorites are B/B or S/A it didn't feel like a real rest week... wait it was recovery not rest.

Kathryn as always gives great advice. I think it's great to follow it for say 5 weeks. I was very scared to give up cathe for 13 weeks and scared to follow a new eating plan but I found out I've been very low on protien and for the first time in years my nails aren't completed torn and peeling (it's really been horrible) but I didn't think it was diet related (duh!)

I now have protein drinks every morning - it gets a dairy, protein and fruit in. I've gone down to 1 cup of coffee and I'm now eating protein at lunch too. I skipped lunch for most of the last 20 years.

I think a light workout is ok on the rest day (I've done TJ 2 times- as I miss the dancy stuff, xstreatch, and a true rest day) but it's good to get the stretch in.

Hey chicks:

Carole - I did do a light run this morning. Well the run part was light. I also climbed the 385 stairs up the Niagara Escarpment:)

Beavs - clearly you need this;)

Thanks Amy for sending the info. I'll print it out tomorrow at work and have a good look through. I guess the recovery week isn't really a rest week, as you do workouts throughout. And MAN Yoga X is a killer!

I love YogaX too, I just wish it wasn't 90 minutes long. That's a lot of time to put aside for a workout.

Shelley...good job on the light run and the stairs!! That is ALOT of stairs...:)...I think Beavs will get P90X!

eminenz2...I agree that YogaX is too long, but as my intro to Yoga it got me to try some others like Baptiste and Kest...:)

Don't laugh, but you know who has a good intro to Yoga workout? Ali McGraw, of all people. The tape is called "Yoga Mind and Body". I seem to have had this tape for ages, but I go back to it every so often. Besides being a decent beginner yoga workout, the photography is gorgeous, the people are gorgeous, and the music is pretty cool, too. The focus on breathing and the explanation of ujayi (spelling?) breathing is pretty good too, something that Yoga X kinds of skips over.
