P90X January Starters, Monday!!!

CLASSIC/PHASE 2/WEEK 1/DAY 1

I'm in Phase 2, I'm in Phase 2!!!! YEAY! :+ :+ :+ LOL

Today is Chest, Shoulders + Triceps/ARX. I'm very excited to try this new work out. I'll let you know what I think when it's done!}(

My baby is sick. It started with a cold a few days ago but has progressed it seems. He started running a slight fever saturday night. Yesterday when he woke up from his nap it was pretty high and then again last night. :-( I plan to call the doc if it's high again this morning but I don't want to take him out in these frigid temps for the appt. ACK! I hate this!x(

Aaaaah well, I'm done complaining now...Hope everyone had a great weekend and I'll be back a bit later!:+
 
Happy Monday January Starters!
I swear I’m not joining your group but did want to answer/acknowledge some of yesterdays questions….

Wendy: I am going with a FAUX Classic/Doubles Rotation now. I am logging my weights to make sure I continue to push myself and not doing fast reps with Cathe or Amy Bento. I am sticking to my 8-10 reps that work for my body. It’s been challenging but it’s do-able. The DOMS tell me it was time to for a change anyway… I just miss Tony. (hope baby gets to feeling better real soon!)

Sunny: I pretty much stuck to X Classic as written just subbing out various Bryan Kest & Ellen Barrett Yoga’s as I so was not ready for YogaX! The major AHA for me was how little my body wants cardio. I adore it and missed it *** see my last paragraph for details.

Angie: I think those are terrific results so far! Lets face it ladies if we had not been so “fit” by doing Cathe before the X we would be seeing even better results! The hips were (are) still my issue… just gotta believe that if we keep working hard one day we’ll wake up and say “Hey- where did my hips go?” LOLOLOLOL

Interesting note on my body gals… Since completing P90X on Thursday I have done cardio (along with my strength training) every day. Scale has crept up every single day! I tell ya- my body just cannot take all that cardio…. Ho hum I miss the endorphin rush. Maybe after Dr gets my hormones back in tact I will again be able to enjoy intensive cardio without blowing up like a puffer fish!

Thanks for responding. You are more then welcome to join our group or just come in to chat any time! You are a huge inspiration to all Xers and so nice to share your thoughts, opinnions and experiences with us. :) I had better start working on a plan NOW and maybe by the time I finish the X I'll have SOME clue of what I want to do next! LOL ;)

Wendy, I hope the baby is doing better today and you don't have to take him out. It's brutal out there..... I know what you mean about having a plan about what to do next.

Yesterdays Back and Legs went really well. I already have DOMS. Today is Kenpo which I love too.

Traci - I hope you check in here more often. I love your enthusiasm. I mentioned that I was thinking about doing Fitnessfreak's January rotation for a month after P90X and then going back to maybe the Lean rotation or Classic doubles and I was just wondering what your thoughts are on that one.

Nancy... YES I think FFreaks 1 part a day is PERFECT transition... Should also keep muscles guessing and growing as you will be able to lift heavier (1 part a day) + more concentration to each muscle group. That was actually my original plan but I changed it so many times I forgot! LOLOLOL... I may do that in 2 weeks if I find I need a mental break from multiple parts per day. ^^^^5 on the money! What are you planning on spluring on? How EXCITING!
 
Traci - This is the rotation I was talking about. It's more than one part per day but what I like about it is that it's more weight-lifting and less cardio with some (dreaded) yoga thrown in there too.
This is it below -

Is there a better rotation (in your opinion) than this one. You mentioned a one-part-per-day workout. I have a little bit of exercise ADD and don't really know if I could only do one part per day. I value your opinion, if you haven't noticed. I just love doing this P90X, I can't say it enough times.


$325.....hmm, I don't know. Coincidentally, I just bought two winter coats at Macy's last week (they were having a coat sale) for $300 something dollars and I was thinking about returning one. I just may have to keep them both now. (lol)

Morning ladies .. (Phase 2 - week 2 - day 0ne ... my version classic)

Well .. don't ask on the eating .. knew I was going to blow it big time this weekend .. and I did a bit .. not as horribly as I thought ... but did indulge in some chips and dip and adult beverages .. but I did an awesome hour long interval run Sat. that kicked my butt!!}( so maybe that helped ..

today is supposed to be triceps and chest.. but I may sub and do legs .. b/c my upper body is broken out .. I have whelps and bumps .. gosh I hope it is not poison .. we went fising yesterday and I did walk thru the woods .. I look pitiful..yes i am at work and look like a bumpy lobster ... ??? ... I am hoping this is just from a new body lotion I started using Friday ..

Angie .. 3.5 inches from your waist .. OMG .. I am SOOOOO jealous!! wonderful job! Everyone seems to be having awesome results .. GREAT JOB ...

My aunt commented about my hips shrinking ...and aboutt he definition in my arms .. :7 .. f i could make myself eat better and clean it up better I would see better results .. but hey .. I am NOT complaining!

Everyone seems to have lost inches .. I feel as thought I have gained inches .. (except in my hips .. that one is aloss) .. I am NOT measuring this week .. PMS beast is upon me .. LOLx(

Oh Miss Nancy you are so good about things you may spend "free" $$ On!!! You can tell you are a mom and have learned not to be overly frivolous in your life! How about a spa day w/ you and your girls? I dont know how far 325 gets a gal these days at the spa but could be fun and just what your aching new muscles need! :+
That Rotation looks fabulous as well... Anything with Lean & Build Muscle put out by FFreak is a winner in my book! She looks AMAZING! She put out a 1 part a day that is really similar to this with again the focus being on lifting heavy. Either will do the job! I actually love SH series but have attention span of a knat so I have to use it as 1 part per day! The one you posted is perfect for us I think... I'd need to adjust to make sure I get at least 1 LowerCardio (plyo-ish) + Lower just strength but this looks terrific. Its exciting trying to figure out the "magic" of X isnt it?
I am still hoping that in 2 or 3 months Tony will announce a sequel to X like MonsterX or something.. I'd be first in line to purchse!
BTW: I really value your input as well... we are so similar in stats & age that I think we can do well picking each others brain!

So this rotation sounds like a plan! I agree on another Lower Body (just strength). Don't know about the Plyo - my poor old knees.....

It's something how I'm thinking about a new rotation when I still have seven full weeks to go. I really think that I'm going right back to the X after a month off.

Thanks for letting me pick your brain!!! I ordered my caliper from Amazon and the Clean Eating book. I can't believe my Barnes & Noble still didn't have it in when I checked on Friday. I should be receiving both really soon.

You're right, of course, a spa visit sounds delicious. But when you have children in college I guess life becomes more practical.

Thanks for the well wishes for my son, ladies. He is better as far as not really running a temp anymore BUT his mood is still off and his appetite has not returned fully. I guess I just need to give him 24 hours fever-free to return to normal. With that said, he has been trying my patience all morning long. Lots of crying, whining and complaining. It has really worn me out. He is now down for a nap so it's my work out time but mentally I am just not into it after dealing with DS. x( I will eventually FORCE myself to pop the dvd in and once I get going I know I'll be fine....it's just getting started! ACK!

It stinks to be sooo excited about doing something yet not feeling like you have the energy to do it. :-(
 
Hi Ladies,

I did not workout over the weekend due to a terrbible migraine. Now I'm behind on my workouts and don't know what to do or where to start. I guess I'll pick up where I left off and just go from there.

My weight is up 2lbs:( . I did take measurements and those look great. My waist is down 1.25", thighs only .25", hips down 1/2" I can't remember all the others, and my bodyfat is down 1%.

I definitely miss cardio and would like to do more leg work. I'm trying my best to stay motivated to finish this rotation. It seems like everyone is having great results so I really want to stick it out.

It's definitely a Monday}(

Hi everyone, I'm going to be joining your P90X check in soon. As soon as I get the system in the mail I will be joining you fulltime. ;-) Until then, could someone tell me the workouts for the first couple days of the doubles rotation? I have quite a bit of weight to lose so I thought that would be a good one to start with. I am in pretty good shape since I am a step aerobics instructor, run and do Cathe's workouts pretty regularily. I'm hoping these workouts will shock my body and get this excess weight off.

Anyway, while I wait for it to get here, I'd like to get a jump on it with Cathe's workouts if possible. Can anyone give me a sneak peak??

Okay P90X Girls:

I started on January 22nd. I am having fun but have one question which has been nagging at me. I have not posted it at the beachbody site because I don't know how many of the girls over there have used Cathe as long as I have. Anyway, here goes:

When you lift weights, should you be lifting as much as you can for the amount of reps you want to do with good form? I have found that I can go very heavy with this series because he does not have the holding exercises or half way up/down exercises. I choose a weight I can handle for 8-10 reps but end up doing 12-15 reps and could have gone heavier. I realize that women cannot grow muscles like a man, but my arms are getting big and look nothing like the sleek arms on some of the women in the video. I told my DH that I feel like I am cheating when I use the weights some of the other women in the video are using.

Hope I am making sense; it is very hard to explain.

tomorrow is yoga and i am wondering how i will do with it or if i will be able to even do it. is yogaX good for beginners?

I'm not sure that I understand your question completely but I'll give a shot at answering it anyway!:)

Decide which rep range you want 8-10 or 12-15. Which ever range it is that you choose, the rule is the same: Choose a weight that is heavy enough that the last 3 reps will be TOUGH to complete but not impossible. In addition, you need to maintain good form the entire time. If the last 3 reps are so tough that your form goes out the window then you may need to drop the weight a bit.

Thanks for attempting to answer my ill-worded question.

I guess the better question would be...if I do not want huge muscle bound arms should I "cheat" and use 5 lb weights and pop out the 12-15 reps like the other girls in the video?

OR Should I continue to push myself with heavier weights (using good form of course), pump out the 12-15 reps and hope that eventually my arms will lean out?

The question started in my mind when DH said that the reason my arms were getting bigger was that I was using heavier weight. I told him that it seemed silly to me to lighten to 1/4 of the weight, it would feel like cheating. And besides I have heard so many times that women cannot build huge muscle mass just from weight lifting alone.

Now am I making sense?

Well the idea is that the 8-10 range will build muscle/strength and the 12-15 will provide endurance/strength/definition. It will probably build a little bit of muscle but not much. I personally would not lighten the weights to that extreme. IMO the X is not worth doing if you want to stay that light with the weights. You may be better off with something along the lines of the Slim Series or Jari Love's work outs which are based on lighter weights with MUCH higher reps. I'm not sure though. That's just what I am getting from what you are saying.:)

I just finished phase 1. I am definately more defined but I measured my flexed bicep size on day 1 and day 30 and have lost a 1/4 of an inch there. I do 12-15 reps as heavy as I can. I am more defined though and getting stronger. Also remember that you will probably experience fat loss during this rotation and if you build a little muscle but loose some fat, it may appear that you are growing when you are not. Does that make sense?
