P90X...again

Hi all;

I've read a lot of posts about P90X, but I was skeptical of its value. Now, although I work out pretty much every day, I'm definitely stuck in an evil plateau and need to shake things up, so I finally decided to go ahead and order it.

First, I'd like to vent: the shipping at Beachbody! Is so lame! When I was placing my order, a little banner popped up that said they were "upgrading" me to "express" shipping free of charge. Oh boy! Except apparently they were talking about the Pony Express. Because according to the tracking info, my package is still in California, and it's been ten days. I live on the East Coast. This. Is taking. Too long.

More importantly, I'm having trouble mentally preparing for "the X" (if it ever gets here). I don't know if I can get over my addiction to cardio! Did anyone who tried P90X incorporate Cathe workouts or extra cardio? Did anyone follow a P90X rotation exactly? I'd love it if one of you P90X experts could weigh in on this - what gave you the best results?

Thanks!

Dee

Hi Dee.

I completed my first round of the X between January and April of this year. I added one extra cardio and/or leg session per week while doing the X. I got fantastic results! I do believe, however, that if I had NOT added the extra cardio I would have STILL gotten awesome results. I only did it to be able to keep up with my running. I refused to let my running endurance that I had previously worked so hard on go down the drain. I added the extra leg day because the X is very light on the leg work and I wanted more.

There are many people who did the rotation as is and got great results as well.

Also, don't forget that there are 3 different rotations to choose from. If you want more cardio you might want to consider the doubles rotation or some modification of it. You do cardio 5 days per week with that rotation.

Not EVERYONE finds this program to be spectacular. There are a handful who tried it and did not care for it. In fact, I got my X from a Catheite who, after trying it for a few weeks, decided it wasn't for her and sold it to me. I definatley think it's worth a shot though and if you find it's not for you, I am sure you can sell it for almost as much, if not just as much as you paid for it!

Best of luck to you! I hope you love it as much as I do!:7 I plan to start "round 2" in January of next year!

Yes, I think it is worth a try.

I having doing Cathe for over a year and love her to death. But I am currently waiting to get Gym Style by the end of year and the meantime, I want to try something else.

I am on day 4 and I have to say that the cardio is okay, it will get you where you need to be in this workout routine.

The weights are also good too. I have to say that Cathe's are just as intense if not more, because Cathe does muscle exhaustion and OUCH it hurts!!!

I am looking for bigger muscles!!! So I am trying the heavier weight with less reps.

It will be a little awkward at first since P90X doesn't do "traditional" moves, but different ones that you have to get used to. I guess this is what they do to cause the muscle confusion thing.

Give it a try. It think its worth it to add to your routines.

After I am done, I plan to do a combination of Cathe and P90X.

I'm doing my 2nd doubles rotation which is basically just adding in my running. I refuse to give up my running! ;-) P90X is great for mixing things up & helping you beat that plateau!! I've seen my best results from P90X lifting. I was going pretty heavy on the Gym Styles & tried Slow & Heavy, but this program has really worked for me!

Sorry about the shipping thing. I haven't had a problem but have heard of other people that have.

Let me know if you have any other questions! [email protected]

excellent(even more than cathe) for upper body and core. all those push ups- wow! i have tighter core from it and can do 30+straight leg pushups in a row. yogax and coresynergistics are also excilent for core 28'-26' waist, size 6-4. i still do cathe lower body and cardio and powerstrike or kpc. i plan on starting the classics again tomorrow after bbc and cathe-i am sooo excited!

That's a crock. They don't mean express SHIPPING (and they don't say that), but express HANDLING. Which, from what I've seen ,just means slapping a pink label on the box saying something to that effect.

I strongly suggest following P90X Classic rotation as-is for the first two weeks, then see if you really want/need more cardio. If so, you can start by swapping and Imax for PlyoX and some Cathe kickboxing for Kenpo X.

I would second Kathryn's vote - do two weeks first and then decide if you need more cardio. I did not and I run alot as well during the spring and early summer months and I did my initial P90X from Jan-March....I can finally do pushups and my upper body strength increased :)

I was able to jump right back into running no problems!

<<I would second Kathryn's vote - do two weeks first and then decide if you need more cardio.>>

Ditto. The Classic rotation on its own is a lot of work (good work). For me, adding in more cardio would've been over training. The program "as-is" is pretty well thought out.

I didn't add in any doubles my first round until after Phase 1. It might not seem like a lot of cardio, but the weight workouts are tough! This round I was already back to running regularly 2X per week so I'm just keeping up w/ that & sometimes adding in a 3rd run.

Good luck!!

That is what I am planning to do as well.

I don't want to sub anything because I want to see what P90X can really do.

I miss Cathe a lot, but I am sticking with this program for the 90 days as is.

Oh, by the way, I joined their board as well and I am sure talking a lot about Cathe and what she has done for me.

There are quite a few Cathe followers over there too.

:)

Does anyone have the website address for PX90? I'd like to check it out.

Thanks,

Thanks Jess.

I have another question. What's the difference between the sets, In home Boot Camp and Extreme Training System?

P90X is the extreme training system. It's the workouts that most of us are talking about. Power90 is another good workout system, but not as extreme as P90X (no pullups, etc).

If you're looking for an awesome at home system, P90X is the way to go!! HTH!!

LOL! I completely agree. I have had problems with Beachbody shipments myself but have not had the same problems with their subsidiary company Million Dollar Body. My husband and I became independent MDB representatives about 2 months ago and since then have had all our BB products shipped through them without a hitch. They seem to use a different distribution center and items are shipped much faster and can be easily tracked. Our stuff almost always arrives within a week.

Also, in case anyone is interested, for a limited time all P90X orders placed through the Million Dollar Body site will also include 2 workouts from the P90 Master Series- Upper Middle Lower which is a 40 minute strength training workout and the 60 minute Cardio Intervals. So if anyone has been thinking about getting the X now would be a good time to do it :)

If anyone has any questions please feel free to contact me at one of the links below.

I don't have the X but I just won P90 on eBay. I got the whole package as advertised on Beachbody for $26!!! After all the horror stories I've heard I'm a little skittish when it comes to Beachbody's CS and business practices. ;)

Hi everyone--

Thanks, P90Xers!

I finally got my P90X box in the mail and I'm in the middle of my second week. After reading through all the material and previewing a few of the DVDs, I decided to get through the first phase (Phase I is essentially the same for Classic and Doubles rotation), then decide if I wanted to add the extra cardio and do the Doubles, or stick with Classic.

So, I'm doing the first three weeks just as it's laid out by the P90X people and resist the temptation to change anything around (it's always very hard for me to follow rotations - I'm "workout moody"). So far, this has been no problem. The workouts can be as challenging as you want them to be, and they are FUN.

I especially like the Plyometrics workout. It's hard not to add that one an extra time just for the heck of it.

Anyway, thanks for all the replies and advice!

Dee

Good to hear, Dee!! Glad that you're enjoying it! I'm doing doubles & love it! Hope to hear of your great results w/ it!
