P.E.T.A and Dr Atkins...they should be ashamed

LOL you guys! I think we're on to something here. It's not inhuman if it's voluntary, right? I'm sure we could incentivise (is that a word? ) it somehow. Not that level 3 sex offenders would mind trying on a little lipstick & mascara.

What makes me crazy about the PETA crowd is their ignorance! I am a fiber artist, and to that end, I spin my own yarn out of wool. These folks will show up at sheep shows/fairs and form a chain by linking their arms while chanting about saving the sheep. Dudes -- they're sheep. If you don't shear them, their wool grows into their eyes and they can't see. Yes, they don't enjoy being sheared, any more than a two year old child likes having their hair cut, but they don't DIE for their wool. Sheep farmers are nice to their sheep. If they aren't, the wool is crap and has what's known as a "break" in it and no spinner will buy it. Happy sheep make nice wool. No one loves sheep and cares for them more than people that appreciate their wool. The PETA people just blindly accept the party line, and the facts and reality don't matter to them at all.

It's really quite sad, in my opinion.

I wonder how many of these people adhere as rigorously to the principles they preach.

How many refuse to get vaccinated or have their children vaccinated. All vaccines are first tested in animals.

How many refuse prescription drugs or refuse these drugs to their children. If these drugs aren't tested for efficacy in animals, they are tested in cell culture. Cell cultures are cultures in media containing serum from slaughtered animals. Preclinical toxicology requires animal testing.

How many refuse medical treatments or procedures such as the use of medical devices or surgical procedures which were first developed or evaluated in animal models.

Many diagnostic tests and procedures require animal products or were developed in animal models.

How many of these zero tolerance folks have fastidiously applied the rules to themselves and have studied every aspect of how they live and the products or services they use in microscopic detail to make certain they are not breaking their own rules. Probably not many.

PETA folks don't seem to me to be a goal oriented group wherein the goal is actually related to animal welfare. They don't set reasonable goals using reasonable tactics. They would achieve more that way. Instead their goal appears to be terrorist tactics for the sake of the action and not the impact on the treatment of animals. I think PETA should question its own motives.

I agree. I think PETA has lost sight of its mission. I also wonder how
many of the individuals from PETA live their lives according to their doctrine. If they start digging in deep as the above poster stated they may find they are not. I think PETA is made up of individuals that don't think clearly or very deeeply. Its not uncommon to have very opinionated people that aren't very educated on the facts. It doesn't stop them from having an opinion however.
