Outer Thigh & Glute Sweeps--Help!!!!

Would someone please describe how to do the outer thigh and glute sweeps in Legs & Glutes (right before the inner thigh work)??

I think I was concentrating way too much on my upper body! Cathe and her crew looked like they were really moving their hips up and down. When I tried to do that, I looked like an uncordinated mess. I was wondering if they were working on lowering their hips or if that movement came naturally.

Hi Shelley,
I learned how to do the hip lift portion by itself through Pilates tapes. Maybe just try that at first - come up to a side plank and lower and lift your hips. Keep your legs together. Then later on as you conquer that movement, add in the "glute sweep". The movement works the core and obliques! Try placing the top hand in different positions to help your balance.

Also, I've noticed when I've really worked my outer thighs, the supporting leg is way too tired to even lift up the hip. So then I just stay flat and do only the glute sweeps. Hope that helps!
 
Hi Shelley!

I have a hard time with these, too, and can only squeak a few out before I'm done. I concentrate more on just laying flat and doing the glute sweep.

I really moved my hips the first time I did these and OUCH didn't do a very good job. The next few times I really concentrated on holding my hips still and just moving my legs. I then worked up to moving my hips some. I pretty much do mine like Cedie now, if you notice she doesn't move up and down a lot...just a little. Hope that helps!
