Our "Go Me!" Moments

I don't have much definition (it's covered under an layer of fat) and even if I did, it was 9 degrees in MN today, so no one could have seen it anyway. But I digress... I stopped at the grocery today and when I got to the checkout, the cashier said to me, "Here, I'll take that." Well when she grabbed my basket she dropped it on the ground! She said, "Geez lady - you carried this through the whole store!?!" I guess it was heavy and I didn't even notice! Go Power Hour for giving me the endurance to carry that basket a long time. Go Pure Strength for giving me the strength to lift it. Go Cathe for making those workouts so much fun to do. And go us for doing them! Okay, let's hear some more 'go me' moments!!!

I did my Cathe workout yesterday (instead of beating myself up with negativity I followed all of my Cathe friends' suggestions) for the first time in months....
forst person I met out the door said - "you always look so happy!"

Go me, Go Cathe, Go forum friends!!!

My most recent "moment" was Monday. My daughter (18) was trying to get to some boxes in the back of our storage shed but a big black trunk packed with "stuff" was blocking the way. She tugged at the trunk, tried moving it to the side with her feet and body weight, but it wouldn't budge, so finally being tired of watching her struggle with it, I said "watch out sweetie, let mommie move it for you!" She looks at me with this "yeah right!" look, but I go over, grab it by the side handles, bend my knees, and lift it waist high to move completely out of the way! My daughter's mouth was dropped open and she was just wide eyed in amazement! And she says, "geez mom! you've got strength like some superhero or something!" But to tell you the truth, the trunk only felt like maybe 60# or so! But it felt great to know I could move that trunk and not wait until "dad got home!" :)

I "semi" had a go me moment yesterday.I was at work and my bosses father came in.He just had surgery on his neck.He had some fatty tissue removed. So, he was very sore and tired.(he is a 71 yr old man)I was doing a set of nails and he sat down in the dryer chair behind me.They were talking about his surgery and he pointed to my tricep muscle and said "you need that lump removed"! I didn't know first if it was a compliment. It probably wasn't meant to be but I took it as one.Considering that last week I was saying that my weakest muscle was my tricep.

Hey, Beansie - we're living parallel lives, frostbitten though they are . . .

Had a similar moment to yours a few weeks ago at our Rainbow store out in Plymouth: when we got to the checkout line, they had some local boyteens bagging groceries for tips for some soccer or hockey league or some such thing. Being unschooled in how to space out heavy vs. light items in each bag, our young man bagger put 3 heavy bottles of pop and a jug of laundry detergent in one bag, and then about a million cans of veggies and bags of fruit in another. To help him along as he was putting the bags in the cart, I offered to carry these two out, since the cart was full.

He picked them up, grimaced and said, "These are pretty heavy." I took both of them from him, said, "I'm pretty strong," and sauntered out of the store.

Life is full . . .

Lori, I am cracking up at the lump removal remark!

I occasionally use the cardio machines at the Y while my kids are doing their taekwondo class. Last Saturday, I had to wait for a treadmill, so I asked a young fella that works there to help me try out the assisted pull up machine. He showed me how it worked and then to demo, set the assistance at 50 pounds, and tried it himself. He then said "whoa-that's too hard" and reccomended I set it higher. I set it to 70, got on, and after a couple of reps, told him it was too easy. I ended up doing 8 reps at 60, then moved it down to 50, did 8 more, and even eaked out 8 more reps at 40!!! (It hurt, but I did it!)

Next time I'll try 30...

Hey Aqua-Jock and jillybean-

You guys are from Minnesota too? That is so cool! I live in Bloomington and work in Mpls for General Mills. Any get togethers coming up? Would love to meet some fellow Cathe lovers.

Nancy

AWESOME, Jillybean!!!!!!!!! You go girl!

I hear ya about the temp. here in Minnesota. I'm from Southeastern Minnesota and the temp. is terribly cold. I wanted to start running outside SOON, but I've had to obviously put that on hold.

Keep going, girl!

The one moment I most remember was a few months back. My hubby and I decided to move the TV from the living to the bedroom and vice versa. Well, I asked him for about 3 days to switch them and he was taking his time. Finally one night(while he was on the couch)I unhooked the TV's and carried them out and back by myself. Now these babies are those 35" that were pretty heavy but surprisingly enough felt okay. My husband sat up and just stared at me and shook his head. I said" See,that's why I get up early everyday to do my Cathe!" He said "Well, it's working!" :) Susan

We have the church newsletter printed at a local printer, and every month the same guy begs to help me carry the box out to the car, but I always tell him I can do it 'cause I lift weights. He is always amazed.

To be quite honest, every time I do a Cathe tape, it's a "Go Me" moment. I'm very proud to be able to do them at my age. I'm proud just to be gusty enough to ATTEMPT to do them! If it ain't "advanced," I won't even consider it. That's the word I look for in the Collage video description.

QUIT MAKIN' EXCUSES AND.....Just Do It! :)

Nancy,
So glad to meet you!!!! I've read your posts before and never knew that you were from MN! I work in Bloomington and live in Richfield. Did you order the Intensity Series on DVD? Because Amadeus, Aquajock, JMFrane, and me are all going to a workout from The Terminator and then report back on the forum, if we can get to the computer that is. I'd love to have a MN Catheites get together! Name the place and time. (Something cheap though, times are tight in the Jillybean household right now.) Have fun!

Aahh! I read your posts all of the time. I never knew you were a Minnesotan! That is so cool! The weather is bad but hey, we got Prince, Wally Szczerbiak, and the Mall of America. Not bad. Don't we have a giant ball of twine somewhere too?

Isn't it great. I was at the grocery store and had one of the sackers suggest that I looked like I could carry my own bags out to the car. I was embarrassed at first then thought that is really a complement. Of course he carried my groceries out.

Ok, I really don't have any "GO ME!" moments, but....

Usually I only realize that I actually AM strong when I work out with newbies. This is when I can tell that maybe I have made progress after all..carrying groceries..well, I never get a cart unless I HAVE TO...

But, last Saturday, I rollerbladed 13 miles at top speeds of 16 mph and then had a second, albeit less intense workout that day of biking 14 miles on some hilly terrain.. that night, at 1:30 AM, I STILL could not fall asleep!! And not even a twinge of soreness the next day...
that is my "go me" moment...

My family has been blessed with FAT upper arms. SERIOUSLY. I had an aunt that complained that her hubby said her arms looked like clubs (those old wooden clubs they used to wash clothes with in the olden days)and no one could wear short sleeves. So here I was looking for a dress for this company party last week and ended up trying a black spaghetti strap dress and my shoulders and arms actually looked OK. My sister mad me get the dress saying, " You didn't inherit the Fat Arm Genes " and I turned around and said, " Oh You bet I did, this is 6 months of weight training!!!" 6 months of PS!!! At the party I caught a reflection while I was fixing my strap and thought...hey is THAT a tricep bump? It was!!!
