Opinions/recommendations on breadmakers

I see some of you ladies posting about the wonderful breads that (I think) you make in the bread maker.
I had a panasonic one way back when and I LOVED it! After several years of almost daily use it broke. After that my mother, bless her heart, bought me a Westbend as a present. WEll, I NEVER got that darn thing to work right.
Now reading all these posts I am gettting tempted to buy another one and wondered what you ladies recommend?
Thanks!
Paula

I have a Hitachi (sp?) that is years old, but I love it. My only wish is that is made loaves that actually looked like loaves, which I think newer machines will do.

I have a very old Panasonic and I have no idea what's out there now. I'll bet it's the same model you had. I mean, we've had it for probably 12 or 13 years and it still works great. We don't use it as much as we used to but we like to drag it out of the closet every now and again for a piping hot loaf in the morning.

I bet we all had/have the same Panasonic. My mother bought my Panasonic when they first came out (they were about $450 back then).....I think mine is about 16 to 20 years old because my daughter was pretty young. Heck, the darn thing still works...I only had to replace the kneader once because I would throw it in the dishwasher and it must have slightly melted the plastic.

Robin, come to think of it, mine is probably as old as yours. We've been in our current home for 12 years and I know we had our bread machine for at least 2 or 3 years before moving here. No doubt about it, it's a good machine.

I actually threw my breadmaker away after I got my kitchen aid mixer. It's soooo easy to make bread in that thing. The only difference between it and the bread maker really is that you have to actually put the bread in a pan and stick it in the oven.

There was a period of 2 or 3 years where we didn't use the bread machine and I decided to donate it to Goodwill. My DH threw a hissy fit over it and has been using it every couple of months since then. Actually, the bread machine is his and he's the one that makes all the bread.

I thought about getting a Kitchen Aid stand mixer but I don't have room for it. My kitchen is jam packed--I don't have room for another fork.--LOL!

The kitchen aid totally rocks! It takes maybe ten minutes to whip up some bread dough, then you just have to wait for it to rise. The bread comes out soooo much better than in the bread machine.

Ladies - I'm am seriously considering a bread maker myself. My kids like toast in the AM, and I'm thinking I could make some much healthier and delicious toast than the processed crap they're eating now. Any ideas on where to go for healthy recipes? I may just break down and get a bread maker this weekend.
