Hi everyone! I have a question that I thought that the wonderful people here may know more about than me. You all are so knowledgable in exercise/fitness but also a lot of things on the internet that I haven't had a lot of experience with.

My question is, would facebook, my space, linked in, or plaxo, be a good place for a small business to have a presence for potentially finding clients and directing them to the small business website?

I don't really know the purpose of these networking sites and thought someone out there in Cathe-land would have input.

TIA for all your help!

What kind of business do you have? You can post it on these sites but remember your limited, depending on the type of business, to your area only.

I found a hair salon by googling them. For whatever reason, their actual site didn't come up, but it brought up a my space or something like that, which had a link to their site. The two sites were completely different and I enjoyed getting a feel for them that way. Yeah, so what kind of business is it?? Just curious :)

This isn't my business....I recently started working as an admin asst for a nutritionist. This job is so cool in that I have an interest in this area and it's not corporate america which I was in for 25 yrs. She is full of ideas and had asked for my opinion on marketing her business via these internet sites. Since I really don't have any experience in them I thought I'd ask everyone's opinions on here.

My initial thoughts were that facebook/my space was a teenager site but figured that could have changed in recent years. LinkedIn I know my corporate professionals used it to network. And I had never heard of Plaxo. I didn't want my limited experience to cloud my response to my boss.

I would suggest Linked In. I'm in business and I have TONS of requests for this all day everyday. Basically most people that I come across trade profile information after meeting. It's become very popular in the corporate world for connecting and networking with other professionals.

I know that most places block Facebook and Myspace at work. JMO, but I look at those two websites as a place for kids to hang out and brag about partying. I don't really associate them with anything business related. That's probably unfair because I'm sure there's a lot more to it. Just my impression of them off the bat.

Linked in as the above poster suggested is probably the best one! I work for a lawfirm and many of them use that as a place for networking (professionally). people also put on their site and advertise that you can become a friend to you.
