One small goal down....

Now I KNOW this doesn't sound like much...especially to you all since everyone here can practically be in Muscle & Fitness....but this morning, I ran ONE WHOLE LAP around the track (quarter mile)!!! :p It was a milestone for me as we have been doing the Runner's World beginner plan which is 1 min running/2 min walking x4 days for 1 week. Today I wanted to see how far I could go. At the end I was pretty out of breath but I did it and recovered quickly to start my 1 min runs. I'm going to beat this running thing yet.

Kim...don't ever think you goals are "not much"...:)...Congrats on your first lap around the track!!...

KIM - WAY TO GO!!! If I were there, I would give you a huge high 5, and if I had tried to run with you, I would be too far behind to reach you for that high 5, and when I finally caught up, I would be crawling :p It is no small accomplishment - HUGE! Yeah KIM!!!

Oh, well done! See? All it takes is some patience ;) And by the way, I'm pretty sure that it's a very small percentage of women on here who could hope to be in Muscle and Fitness. Speaking for myself, I know I could only be the "before" picture in all the articles!

Kim,

I'm so proud of you!! Believe me, I know how hard running is. I knew you could do it!! Soon you'll be running 5K's and then we can meet somewhere in the panhandle for a race.

Keep up the good work!!

HUGE high five to you! Please don't belittle your accomplishment! We're all after progress, right, and you made some! I did that program a few years ago and I can now run 3 miles without stopping. The key, for me, was consistency. That program really works! Congrats!

Thanks so much for all the advice and encouragement with the running. I can't wait to actually run a mile!

Kim,
Don't knock yourself!!! That is awesome!
We all started somewhere...like maybe 100ft. the 1st time I ran?!?!:p
Keep up the great work!

Hey!

First off, I will never be M&F material. I just can't make myself stick to a diet of broccoli and halibut.

Secondly, we all have to start somewhere! I didn't really work out at all until I got my dogs many, many years ago. I wanted to take them for walks, and they wanted to run, so they increased my aerobic capacity pretty dramatically. For about a year, I would walk and run alternately until eventually we ran more and more. I was always proud of myself for adding an extra block or two of running. It's a big accomplishment and you should be super-proud of yourself! You go! :D

Yay!!
That's so exciting for you! I know the feeling.. way back when.. I was in HS and wanted to run for exercise.. the first time I ran a lap I didn't *quite* make it all the way aorund and I passed out on the grass! (not literally).. I kept it up until I almost hit 2 miles (I got the 7 laps)..
Hated it so much actually I dreaded the time when I had to do it again.. kept making excuses and talking myself out of it until I finally negotiated on walking 1 lap, running 1 or 2, then walking the last. I liked it better and it got the exercise in so I didnt mind doing it more often.
But its amazing how well you can adapt and progress when you set goals for yourself and then push yourself to get them!

.. and hey, I wouldn't be so sure on the Muscle & Fitness thing ;)

Way to go!! When I first started running I could barely make it down the and of my street and that was AFTER I had hit my goal weight and thought I was in such great shape lol.

I know sometimes I can feel intimidated on the forums because some of these ladies are just amazing athletes and gorgeous woman and well, after some health issues i'm back to my "before" pictures! Nobody has ever made me feel that way, it's just my own insecurities, but I understand what you meant about feeling like it's a small accomplishiment compared to others, but really everyone knows what a big deal it is!

Congratulations! Have you met Coach Sean? ;) He pushed me farther and faster than I ever thought I could go!
