One or Two ear buds?

MAYNARDSMOM

Cathlete
I have just recently added some jogging to my routine - loving it thanks to Sean!! When jogging/running/walkingoutdorrs do you guys use one or two earbuds? My first timeout I used both but could not hear ANYTHING outside my zone! Today I only used one for safety, but kept having to push it back in - very frustrating after a while. Plus I took Maynard with me..... He is NOT a runner!!

Tami - When I lived somewhere where I could actually run (no shoulder where I am now), I would just do 1 (I'm an indoor runner now). I personally just do not think 2 are safe. I like to be able to hear if someone is coming up behind me or if there is a car behind me. I grew up south of Baltimore though so I may just be overly paranoid. ;) I will say though that on my way to work I see people running all the time with both in and they act completely oblivious to my car.

p.s. - Could you maybe clip the other bud in your hair so it isn't pulling on the one that is in your ear? I wasn't sure from reading your post if that might have been why the one keeps falling out.

it depends WHERE im running....

if its on our no-curves country road....2
if its in town/subdivisions where i need to pay more attn with lots of cars/other runners....1

I wear two, and I keep the volume to a point where I can hear both the music and what is going on around me. I don't wear the kind that jam way down into the ear, though, because I don't think they are that safe.

This is what I do too! I save my earbuds for when I am on the TM or elliptical.

None in traffic or on busy bikeways, one in the road or when hiking, two when working out in the gym :)

I've got a great noise cancelling set, and literally will not be awakened by a baby crying in a seat behind me when I wear two, with moderate volume. They are Shure's.

I have to have 2 with the music blaring, . . . .it washes away the pain but I wear one of those running reflective vests because I'm a little freaked out by crazy drivers on their cell phones. My husband always makes fun of me, . . says I look like one of those people that have to pick up garbage on the sides of the road when you get to many tickets but heck I don't care. It sure beats being road kill.

We are lucky enough to live in a State that loves fitness! (Somewhat) We have bike paths all over! So, I use two earbuds and just stay on my side of the path!

Of course, the cyclists think the path is just for them and almost plow over everyone when they come through! Especially the serious ones who really should be on the road since there are always people with their children and dogs walking there! But that's for another day . . .

That was the problem, the jiggling around (probably the same for my rear end ) Maybe if I pushed that clip up so they are close together it wouldn't jiggle. Also need to get an arm band!! Next time sans Maynard too!
I lovemy beanie boy but a runer he is not! :(

I wear TWO & crank up the volume so I cannot hear my two kiddos whining in their double jogging stroller. LOL In all honesty, they like to be pushed most of the time,......but this is ME TIME!!!

I wear two when on our local trail and stay to my side but during races where they are permitted, I ONLY EVER WEAR ONE!!! Earbuds are controversial enough during races, but I keep one tucked under my sports bra strap and the other stays in my ear nicely, and the volume is low so it's background noise only, I can pump up the volume for alittle boost here and there!

I've done both. If both buds are in, I make sure the volume is low enough that I can stay alert to traffic and my surroundings. If I want to crank it, I'll do one bud with the other one tucked under my sports bra.
