OK- really confused...

Hi all- I'm hoping to get some advice here! I'm ready to jump into Cathe (so to speak :)) but I am not sure what I should be ordering. I keep coming back to her website, looking through everything and ordering nothing because I'm so overwhelmed . Here's what I'm asking-

What is it that is so special about the DVD's as opposed to the tapes? Do they have the original routines plus some extra stuff? Do you have to put the extra stuff together or is it already on the DVD? I mean, I know it's on there but do you have to organize it yourself?

Also, any recommendations for someone who loves Step, especially a lot of different combinations and I'm looking for some real weight training as well. I have done Firm tapes in the past but am looking for something with higher energy and tougher workouts.

Thanks so much in advance!!:)
Jean

Welcome Jean!

You will be so happy if you jump into Cathe's workouts! The selection is overwhelming, but there is such variety- you'll never get bored.

Regarding DVDs, here are some reasons I prefer them to tapes:

1) DVDs have newer technology & are designed to last whereas videos may become fuzzy over time

2) In many cases, DVDs are actually more economical. For example, if you wanted to buy all 3 tapes in the Pure Strength Series, you'd spend $59.85 ($19.95 x 3). If you buy the PS Series DVD, you get all 3 workouts for $49.99.

3) DVDs are great for beginners because you can pause & replay easily if you need to take a break or want to pay close attention to the form Cathe is using in a particular exercise

4) Cathe's DVDs are thoroughly chaptered. If you decide that you want to do the warm up in a workout and skip ahead to the abs section, you can select the chapters from the menu and don't have to waste time fast-forwarding.

5) Many of the newer DVDs have pre-mixed workouts if you want to switch things up. Some also have workout blenders that you can use to design which portions of a workout you will do that day. (Neither of these is hard to do.)

And more...

"At Cathe dot Com we take pride in being a leader in fitness DVD production and technology. We were one of the first companies to produce a fitness DVD and now have over 40 titles on DVD - more than anyone else!

Yet, it is not the quantity of our DVDs that we take the most pride in, it’s the quality of our product. Our DVDs cost ten times more to create than nearly any other DVDs on the market today. Our DVDs are not cheap, but when you compare all the added features and premixes of our DVDs, we think you will agree that Cathe DVDs are not only the best buy on the market today...but also the best DVDs period!

Our new Body Blast DVDs are by far our most technologically advanced DVDs we have ever produced. Cathe’s 6 new workouts have been put on 3 dual layered Disc. Each DVD contains 2 workouts and over 20 Quick Select Premixes ™ giving you almost unlimited choices. We ‘ve even made a fourth DVD, Called the Timesaver, from many of the Body Blast workouts for days when you want a total body workout, but are running short on time.

The Workout Blender ™ is a brand new feature that we are offering for the fist time and will allow you to select and play different sections of the DVD in any order you like without having to input a chapter or title point.

Also, for the first time we are offering three different ways for you to listen to our new DVDs. You can choose from: #1 Normal mix ( This is the same audio mix you would hear if you had purchased the video), #2 Vocals Only (You will only hear Cathes voice and very little music), #3 Music Louder (We’ve changed the audio mix of this selection to emphasize music over vocals. You will still hear both vocals and music, but the music will be louder than normal and vocals will be softer than usual."

I'm not a stepper, but I'm sure many others will chime in with their recommendations.

I only started Cathe a few months ago, and many people recommended the Pure Strength Series to begin with. I am very happy with that choice and also love to incorporate Power Hour. Your selection depends on the type of workout you are looking for and your goals. Are you looking for a workout to build strength or endurance, or both?

Whatever you choose, I have no doubt that you'll be very pleased!

Hi Jean! You've come to the right place if you want high energy and tougher workouts! It is overwhelming sometimes looking at all the choices. Cathe's DVD are extremely well chaptered. The newer DVDs usually contain at least a couple of original workouts, plus have several "premixes" (different combinations of chapters) available, so you can pick one of those or design your own workout picking different chapters. All of Cathe's step routines are fun and challenging with lots of interesting choreography, especially the newer ones. I love the Body Blast Series and the Intensity Series, but they are all wonderful.

I love them for all the reasons cited above and one more as well: if you wish to mix and match from among the DVD's, it's quick and painless. For instance, I did a week of Timesaver cardio and one body part per day and switched over to the CTX DVD for bonus strength work. Since you are able to go directly to the body part de jour via the Chapter or Mix and Match options, there's no cuing up a video and it really makes working out efficient.

I love dvds for all the reasons cited above, but what I love most of all is the premix workouts. I was wondering...do you have a club length step, and what type of weight equipment do you currently own?

My suggestions would be....the Pyramid dvd and the Cardio&Weights/Interval Max 2 dvd for starters, actually might as well throw in the Muscle Endurance/Bootcamp dvd.....the Intensity Series is great!! Of the Body Blast series...Step Blast and Step Jump and Pump are fun workouts. If you dont like hi/lo, you can opt to skip that section of Step Jump & Pump with the premix option.

Enjoy!!

I would also recommend the Pyramids for weight training and Step Blast/Step Jump & Pump for your cardio. Step Blast is my favorite step workout right now. It is so much fun.

Hi Bobbi!!! I am just a little confused.....you can mix and match with different dvd's? I've never used the mix and match options before.

Thanks,

Kim

No, the DVD's have a Mix and Match section which allow you to go directly to each separate section, which it plays and then goes back to the menu and a Chapters section which allow you to go directly to any chapter and then moves on through the subsequent chapters. To Mix and Match DVD's, I change them. I have wondered about 5 disc players and programming but as yet don't have a 5 disc player so it's a moot point.

So I did each Timesaver workout through the strength work and then I popped in CTX and went directly to the body part I wanted to work and then finished with the stretch. It's really pretty quick even with the change of discs..

I have a 5-disc DVD changer and yes you can program across different DVDs to build a workout. It does take some time to do this and you have the little wait while it changes from one DVD to another, but it is kind of neat. I never use it because I don't have enough patience to program the workout.

Hi Bobbi, It is a very neat function even though I rarely use it because it takes time. You need to have a list of the workouts broken down into chapters so that you know which chapters to program into the DVD player. These are listed on Cathe's site somewhere. You can flip flop between 2 different DVDs or you can use all 5 DVDs. I'm not sure how many segments you can program as I've never run out of room yet. You can progam many many chapters.
