OK my little rant about NOT using "search"

Yummy Mummy

And I''ll put my hand up first for the once or twice I've been guilty..........but isn't that what "search" for............to "search" previous answers on question?

Many many questions are coming up on these forums that have been asked many a time.........and sometimes I am having trouble finding something "new" I wish to reply to!

Am I just being a B#t*h now?..........or perhaps I should use "search" to find an answer

Thanks for listening

Marion

RE: OK my little rant about NOT using

Well, in everyone's defense, sometimes it is nice to actually become consumed in a conversation about the question on hand versus just reading about it. Maybe they want to ask slightly different questions regarding the subject in hopes of stumbling across a new idea.

If you think about it, we could get most questions answered by doing a search on the internet or researching other health sites but there is always something special about talking to a real person instead of reading an article written by a doctor.

Just a few thoughts...what do I know

RE: OK my little rant about NOT using

It's probably b/c there are so many new members too! I try to search before I post but I have to admit....I've done it too! Someone is always helpful to me and posts the prior thread for me when I haven't found it on my own :)

RE: OK my little rant about NOT using

Thanks Marla - I'll check it out..........it had better be NICE!!!! lol

And Sarah and Timber............I "hear ya" . It is nice to have a "conversation" back and forth for maybe a different answer, but then people shouldn't get their "knickers in a knot" if someone points out their question has been asked before and they should use "search"!

OR

worse still.........moan no one has answered at all and bumpted their post 10 times

Sorry if I've been guilty of that, but I'm new. I will make sure to do this in the future. I hope I haven't caused too many problems.

"knickers in a knot"

Just how old are you again,Marion??!!

RE: OK my little rant about NOT using

Why do people get so mad that people don't do a search? It is like this one every forum. I just don't get what the big deal is. Don't click on the thread if you don't want to read it.

Of course, that is how I feel about literally all the disputes on this and any other, forum......

RE: OK my little rant about NOT using

I didn't mean my post to sound "mad".......more the fact I felt "frustrated" so I apologise back to Lora (who apologised) because that's not what I was asking for to happen.

To me (my own personal opinion) is that all the complaining a few days ago and in a couple of threads in the "ask Cathe" the amount of new members ment the posts were moving too fast of the page before other people could get a good look in, and people were not HAPPY!!

Now to check in, it's like your've been on the same page for ever. The posts have moved down, but the new ones above can sometimes be the same questions asked a week or two ago

So all I was saying was...........if the "search" was used as it should be, we may get a twist of new questions

and also yes!, you don't have to click on the thread, but sometimes you still don't know what the question is going to be becasue the title means nothing.

For myself, I will from now refrain from clicking on threads I feel I have had enough info on or do a search myself before I ask anything!

RE: OK my little rant about NOT using

Maybe we're all just so egocentric that we think our question MUST be unique and couldn't POSSIBLY have ever been asked by anyone before us?;)

RE: OK my little rant about NOT using

I understand your frustration: several times in the last few months in particular, I've seen the same questions come up several times (and often when the exact same thing was asked within the past 2 weeks). I like to help people out and respond, but it's very annoying to retype the same (@*$&@ over and over, so I will sometimes do a search and give the the link to the most recent thread, which sometimes is only a few down from theirs.

I think it's important that people look over the first two pages at least of messages so they can see if the same question they want to ask has already been answered recently.

RE: OK my little rant about NOT using

I agree Marion. Many of the same questions are reasked and many of the same answers are reposted. It would be nice to check before you post ...both being the original poster of a thread and the one who answers. It might be nice to bump up an older thread if you have something new to contribute and that way the answers are also all consolidated.

RE: OK my little rant about NOT using

What I don't understand is why people answer the same question over again. Who has the time and patience. The recent thread about "what do you do for a living" is the third in about 2 months. Don't we already all know the answers by now!?

RE: OK my little rant about NOT using

I agree with that Kathryn!!

Some of us DO answer over and over again. I certainly don't have the time or patience!!

Marion...I do understand what you are saying about your post falling down on the page. I noticed that. Guess what? They can "bump".

Clearly, searching makes more sense. Besides, I actually prefer to search. You get more info that way....:)

RE: OK my little rant about NOT using

I like to search and to google which often leads to outright research to find out if information is credible. Repeated questions don't elicit much from me. That never changes. Besides, I am sure there are people who would rather ask than search. I try not to get irked because I have idiosycracies and while it PAINS me to annoy anyone, it's unavoidable since there's always someone who's annoyed by something at sometime. :) That's why I haven't posted in a pet peeve thread in a long time. Pet peeves are so peevish! :D
