Obese govmt employees charged fee

what on earth kind of medications do elderly people (or anyone for that matter) need that costs $800 a month??
Ive always wondered what went into those "weekly pill planner" containers.. yikes that seems crazy.. im lucky if I even make that in a month with the economic depression and all..

My mother had medications that cost over $200 a bottle!
She was on blood thinners that needed adjusting weekly so she would have bottles of them in different mg.
I'm not kidding. $800 was AFTER her supplemental insurance paid their part. I blame our government and the drug companies.

I don't think $800 for medications is at all expensive IF you don't have insurance and are sick. Most insurance plans have some type of prescription drug benefit - Medicare didn't. Even with the new plans, it is extremely confusing for seniors to decide which plan to choose, how to pay, etc.

I've stopped paying attention to what's going on with drug costs for seniors.
The last I remember was our lovely government stopping US seniors from getting drugs from Canada where drug costs are much cheaper.

When my mother died, we had a grocery bag full of prescription meds to discard. We didn't know what to do with them so my brother took them to the hospital to help us.

I take meds that cost $1400 a month! Thankfully my insurance covers it, I don't know where I'd be if it didn't!

My dad, who just had like 7 heart attacks in 3 hours, takes an unbelievable smorgasbord of pills. I'm sure they cost in excess of $800 a month. Medicare & the supplemental scrip plan covers most of it, thank god.

My only concern is where does it stop. Smokers have been targeted. Now it is the obese. Should drinkers be targeted? How about those who participate in risky hobbies (i.e. mountain climbing)?

I totally agree! Look how many injuries occur with activities like skiing, snowboarding, skating, skateboarding, sports, etc. Those costs are huge! A friend of my son's just broke his pelvis playing football and needed surgery and another one of his friends is recovering from a knee injury.

I've had a lot of medical bills occur as a result of my active lifestyle. In fact, I just went to the doctor last week to rule out a stress fracture in my foot from running. I've had knee injuries also from running. Many of us on this forum have had to have medical care as a result of our active lifestyle. Cathe just needed knee surgery a few years ago from an exercise-induced injury and tore her ACL skiing IIRC, and Brenda broke her hip last year doing an Ironman and needed surgery.

My husband was just talking about how all his poker buddies(HS friends of 26 years) have had some type of surgery for old knee or shoulder injuries. They all played sports, they all work out, and they are all in great shape for being old guys(46-50:D).

I hate how our insurance company fights to pay for my imitrex. They sell us the insurance, but fight us when we use it.
My doctor has to fill out a pre-authorization form stating why I need more than 9 pills a month. I think that's a crock of crap!

Frankly I think whenever people need to use their insurance (regardless of what kind of insurance it is: medical, car, fire, etc) for something major we all have to pay; regardless of what the problem is. It could be medical for obesity related issues, cancers or blood disorders...if it cost the insurance company it is going to filter down to those of us who pay for insurance. Same with car insurance even though I have never had a ticket in my life, my insurance sneaks up a tiny bit each year because of all the fools out there speeding, driving drunk and just acting plain stupid...oh and a lot of those folks end up in the hopital too...I'm sure we are paying for their medical too.
