Just put your 2 cents in here if you wish.

So I was bidding on a pile of clothes for my little boy for christmas gifts. All Gap and Gymboree and all New with tags. The bidding got a little high and my highest bid was $125.I was unsure about it and at times hoped I got outbid. Even though it was still a good price to pay for all that clothes. Last weekend the seller notified me asking me if I wished to buy the order for $125, or two orders for #250.Obviously they had more then one order b/c the one I was bidding on was still up for auction. At this time the bidding was still at $107 so I wanted to wait to see if I would be outbid first and I told the seller that. Also everytime the seller contacted me he/she asked for my mailing address to start the transaction...seemed rather pushy.
In this persons email(again), they stated that they needed my full mailing address to start the transaction and everything would still be done through ebay even though this particular item wasn't up for sale. I assumed its o.k considering they are still going through ebay, if they had just asked for my cc # then I would have known it was fishy.
Anyway...tonight I finally decide to do it. Contact the seller and waiting for them to contact me back but haven't given them my mailing address just that I had considered it, thought I was going to buy it and just wanted to make sure we were both on the same page.
When I was checking my email, I notice that there was some junk mail in my box so I check that out. Its regarding the same item # but with a different emailing address then the first person who contacted me. Then when I look again, there is another email, the same email I received last Sat night, but with another email address. So I have received atleast 4 offers to buy a pile of babies clothes from different emailing address.
Now can someone enlighten me? Is this a scam? Or is it an online business someone as set up and this is why there are so many email address? Im wondering how the he&& they got all this clothes, in different sizes and lots of it.Its non of my business if the clothing is stolen or not, Im just wondering if all these emails are scams? They may never be from the seller. Should I contact the seller through ebay maybe? Im a little on edge considering that the last email I received was from ebay saying that there was a prob with my account and they needed my SIN numver. How dumb do I look? Well...you can't see me...but if you could, I don't look dumb! lol

Ebay is concerned about fraud. My advice to you is to contact them with as much info and you have. meanwhile, I would NOT buy these clothes!

Well, being the smart girl that I am:) I contacted the actual seller of the clothes. She replied saying that she didn't recall sending me any messages and that she only has one email address! Problem solved!
So I emailed the spam people back, telling them the next time they try to pull a fast one, leave me out...and I called them losers:) I said I was smart...didn't say I was mature! hehe;-)

I would say this screams scam all over the place!!!!! For one, according to Ebay rules, the seller cannot contact you about an auction that has not ended yet and offer you the items for immediate purchase. I am thinking this is someone who is contacting bidders on items and hopes to find someone who will bite.

If they say it goes through Ebay, they will need to list the item, you can't do a purchase through Ebay without the item actually listed on Ebay, no matter what they say.

I am glad you contacted the seller, smart girl!!!!!

As to the emails you supposedly got from ebay, log into your Ebay account and check the inbox there, anything that comes through ebay will be there, if you can't find it there, it's not legit, period!

Geehh, some people will try anything!!! Can't be careful enough.

Lori,

I have bought and sold quite a bit (more buying than selling..haha) on ebay, and I can tell you this - never ever ever buy anything from a seller that isn't in an actual auction format. I've had people ask if they can just sell me stuff and ebay itself warns against this because you're not protected if they screw you over, and it will happen eventually. I've been fortunate so far that I have not lost a great deal of money but I think when you shop in that forum, you're eventually going to get burned in some way.

If I were you, I'd steer clear or at least report the emails to ebay. Something to cover yourself. Maybe write back and tell them you'll buy it but only if it's in an auction - they can set up a private auction just for you with a buy it now price, so don't let them tell you they can't.

Also, are the clothes NWT? If not, they could have access to a consignment shop, but just be careful. To me, that's alot of money to give away and not get a quality item in return.
