NYC banning transfats

I see no problem with this. It is not needed, there are other ways to cook the food with out the danger. As far as those who argue about the taste changing. Not that this makes it any better, but when McDonalds was forced to stop using Beef Tallow to cook the fries in, the just added "flavor" so the taste wouldn't change. Now there can also be the argument that the artifical flavors they use to do this to food is not good. But the government as of now has deemed it safe. So if the taste changes that much by using a different oil, I'm sure this will be the solution. On a side note though, we all know that eating processed foods are not good for you. So I'm thinking that if a person is not bothered by this, they probably aren't bothered by trans fat or the chemicals to make artifical flavors. And as we all know, as a treat once and a while, having that hamburger, fries, or pastry isn't going to kill you. What I'm sick of is people not taking responsibility for their own food choices, then blaming the fastfood or food industry for it.

One thing I think people are overlooking in relation to this ban - all of the examples posted are referring to junk food and fast food establishments. The problem (and the reason for the legislation) is that virtually ALL restuarants currently use trans-fats in some capacity or another. Excepting, of course, restaurants that specifically decide not to. The trans-fat issue is worst in junk and fast foods, but is in no way exclusive to them. If you go out and order a salad the dressing could have them, the bread on the table could have them, the glaze on your entree, in your soup, etc. You think you are making a wise dining decision, but unless you stand over the people preparing your food, you have no idea what is actually in it. This isn't just about fast food - it's about all food. Asking restauranteurs to know the calorie counts and nutritional breakdowns of everything on their menus, and printing it on those menus is just not realistic. Scientific breakdowns of every item in your restaurant? What if you're off? You get sued. Many restaurants change their menus based on what's in season. The specials are based on what's fresh that day. How do they account for that? Not possible. Trans-fats are man-made, unnecessary substances. Bread existed well before they did and have you ever had fresh from the oven home-made bread? It's the best kind!!
