Not in such great shape check-in? Anyone interested?

Hi Lisa,

I'm so excited for you to start STS, and a little jealous too! It sounds like you're all prepared for it with your equipment and weights. I'm sure moving those weights did qualify for a workout! I actually preorderd that series while I was pregnant and then I had my son and reality set in and I realized I wasn't going to be able to dedicate the time to do the workouts, so I cancelled my order. I ended up ordering STS cardio instead and I'm really liking the series.

I'm the one doing weight watchers. This is my fourth time also. The first time I lost 25 lbs, then gained it all back, then I lost 60 lbs and I thought I would never gain that back, but I did. I kept most of it off for about 6 years, but then gained a bunch of weight after I had my son. Then last year I went back and lost 19 lbs and gained all of that back. Can you see a pattern here? It makes me wonder why I bother if I'm always going to gain it back. But I keep trying and I started again January 1st. I've lost 8 pounds so far. It's a constant battle. I wish I could just workout and lose weight and not have to do the diet part! Good luck to you with it!

Hi all. Doing well. Boys are with their dad this weekend. Didn't get my cardio in yesterday, had to prepare for the 8 inches snow and ice storm they predicted, which pretty much missed us, we got a little over an inch! LOL First time I'm completely prepared, and nothing! LOL

Hope everyone is well, time for lunch, then a workout in a bit.

Does anyone have Slow and Heavy? I'm looking at getting it,and wanted an opinion. Also, Travel Fit looks great.

Lib

Okay, I did it! I bought the download for Supersets! Going to do it today. Looking forward to it! Will probably order Push Pull in two weeks. For my Valentines present to me :) LOL

Hope all is well!

Congratulations on your purchase Liberty! Let us know what you think.

I have Slow & Heavy. They're good workouts, but the slow pace can get a little tedious. Cathe says to only do it for 3-4 weeks in a row because the slow pace can be hard to do for a long time. I do like the series though and I think it gives good results. I also have travel fit. I really like this workout, the bands really make your muscles burn and I get DOMS from that workout. There isn't a lot for legs and there's a small amount of cardio. The ab workout is short, but I like it. It's a fun workout and I can see how it would be great for travelling if you do that.

Well I'm going to do MMA fusion plus a shoulder workout today. I'm planning on going snowshoeing tomorrow for my cardio plus biceps from upper body pyramid and triceps though I haven't decided which DVD yet, maybe gym style.

Well DS is having a nap, so I'm off to workout!

I will do Supersets in a bit, very cold right now. LOL But can't wait to try it! I bought a ball a while back just for Cathe's workouts, and have barely used it. LOL

I have Amy Bento's Slo-Mo, and loved it! Really saw some great results. I dont get bulky at all, and it really helped to get the definition showing. So, that's why I was considering Slow and Heavy. I get so bored with workouts so quickly. So, need lots of variety.

Do you have Drill Max? I got it a while ago, but still have yet to use it, okay-honestly a little Scared of it right now! Looks intense!

Great news though! My lawyer called and we are ready to set a closer court date for finalizing the divorce! My soon to be ex, just has to return the signed papers. Or it's all for nothing. He wont set a new date without the papers being signed first by both of us. We should each have our set to sign with in a week!

Snowshoeing? WOW! Interesting! I want to try rock climbing, someday I will!

Okay, off to find some way to pay for college! I am going to go back! I'm so excited! Even my boys are thrilled for me! My oldest, 8, said "Mommy, we can move anywhere you want, I don't care, I will even help you with your homework!" LMAO!! I loved it, my youngest hugged me and told me he was so proud of me for doing this. I didn't expect them to be so responsive with all the changes lately.

Have a great weekend!!

having a great Saturday

Hello!

It sounds like a few of us will be having fun with new workouts :D I have finished all my 1RM for STS so I am going to start tomorrow. I was surprised with a few of them...I was a lot stronger than I thought. I am feeling a tiny bit discouraged today because my WW weigh in wasn't great...I only lost .4 lbs this week. I am trying not to be overly focused on the number and instead be more focused on the gains I am making in fitness. I'm not eating my AP though so I thought I'd lose more. Grrr!

Along the same lines...I've noticed a lot of talk on these boards about "clean eating." The whole no processed, no dairy, no white grains, only veggies and fruit thing really baffles me. I just can't for the life of me ever envision eating that way! I am a little concerned because if that is what it takes to lose weight and keep it off I am going to be chubby forever!! My definition of clean eating before I came to these boards were: 1) no fast food, 2)no desserts, candy, donuts, cake, etc except for a small portion every few days, and 3) try to eat more fruits and veggies. That's it! Not a single rule about no dairy, no processed food (I think I would starve to death, lol!). What do you ladies think, am I crazy about this?!

I got up early this morning and did KPC and it was great. The only problem with early morning exercise is that I get to this point in the day when I normally exercise and feel guilty that I am not exercising. Maybe I won't think about it I would get off my rear end and go to the grocery store like I need to! We'll see...it's awfully cold outside!

Liberty - I am so excited for you to be going after your goal of continuing your education. I want to encourage you to keep taking steps forward. I had no idea how I was going to 1) get accepted into a school or 2) pay for it once I did when I started college. I had dropped out of high school during my sophmore year to work to support my daughter so I thought there was no way I would be able to go to college. But I started taking steps, asking questions at different local colleges and after a couple of months found myself enrolled in classes with a way to pay at 17. I actually started college classes 8 months before my high school class graduated. lol. It was amazing to me that as I took steps forward the answers appeared. If I hadn't taken those steps though I wouldn't have known. Keep after it and you'll make it happen!

Lisa

Liberty,

Congratulations on going back to college! Your boys sound so wonderfully supportive! How cute and sweet! What are you planning on taking? Have you looked into grants and student loans yet? I had a student loan for my college and it really wasn't too bad paying it back. Also once I had a year under my belt with good grades I applied for a scholarship through the school I was going to and got it. What do you want to be when you grow up?

I have drill max, but haven't done it for a really long time. I do remember that it's intense, but I know I liked it.

Well I didn't go snowshoeing today because it's cold and snowing. I live in the mountains, so I can go just go out my door and go snowshoeing which is really nice, but I haven't gone at all this year. I really should have gone yesterday because it was sunny with blue skies. I wanted to do MMA fusion yesterday though and boy are my back muscles sore! I hardly ever get DOMS in my back when I do a back workout, but I've done fusion twice now and both times I had DOMS in my ENTIRE back, love it! So today I did biceps and chest, kind of a weird combination, but everything else was sore from yesterday, so that was all that was left, lol!

Did you do supersets?

Lisa,

I didn't actually get to go to my weight watchers meeting last Thursday because I was stuck at work, but my scale at home said I didn't lose anything at all this week. It sucks, so I know how you feel. So do you go to the actual meetings or do you do ww online?

I know exactly what you mean about "clean eating". It's something I don't even try to do, but I do eat alot better than I did before I went to ww. I eat whole grains, healthy fats, I try to eat more fruits and veggies and I don't eat much fast food not too many sweets and less processed food. I don't think you have to eat clean to achieve your weight loss goals. I think it's healthier, but I don't think you need to go full bore with the healthy eating to lose weight. If you do decide you want to eat cleaner, make changes one step at a time rather than trying to change everything at once which is too overwhelming.

So how did STS go?

STS = SORE!!

Happy Monday ladies!

I did disc 1 od STS yesterday morning which was chest, shoulders and biceps. My shoulders are sooo sore already. I have a little soreness in my chest but not much in my biceps at all. We'll see how I feel later today. I really liked the workout although I modified it a bit. Mostly by taking longer breaks in between exercises to get my equipment switched around. I have to be very careful about moving around with weights so I don't reinjure my back. That would be bad!! I still thought it was a *tough* workout. There were several times that I was yelling at Cathe to stop being a lunatic! I intended to do some additional cardio in the evening (I did STS at 7:00 am) but after church, grocery shopping, cleaning and making dinner I was pooped. I lounged around on the couch instead of getting in some quick cardio.

I was up this morning at 4:30 am to do Step Blast before work though. I am almost to the point that I can finish the whole thing. I get to that last blast with all the plyo jacks and tuck jumps and I just get get my feet off the floor anymore! Which is better then when I first started because then I couldn't even make it through all the step combos. I'm glad that I got my workout in this morning because I am supposed to sit down with my dd and her fiance (gasp) and go over wedding plans. I am sure to have a fantastic migraine after that. lol

Amy - I am doing WW online. I tried meetings at work but I am a little socially awkward for that  I am fine once I warm up to people but I don't do well with small talk with strangers. It's a wonder I ever make any new friends! I am glad to hear that someone else has the same perspective as me with eating. It gets so discouraging to read about all these people eating berrys and sticks all the time. Oh and the egg white omelet and protein shake. Can't forget those! I shouldn't poke fun though because those people tend to be thin and I am not where I would like to be! I made a huge mistake at the grocery store and bought a Smartones dessert - the peanut butter cup sundae. OMG, that thing was so good. Unfortunately it has set off my crack-like addiction to sugar so now I am spending an awful lot of time thinking about how to subsititute those for meals. Hopefully I can resist that and just enjoy one every couple of days.

Ok, I must work now! I'd prefer to stay here and chat, but I'll look forward to hearing from you ladies. (btw Amy, I am so jealous that you can snowshoe in your area! We don't get enough snow for that :() Have a great day!

Good evening all!

Sorry haven't been on. Between my ex bringing the boys back early due to them being sick, work, and trying to rearrange living room, while still not feeling well, I have been super busy!

As for school, I want to go into forensics, not sure which specialty right now though. Several of my clients are trying to talk me into personal trainer, but science is my love!

That's cool y'all are doing WW. I had one of their cookbooks once, but lost it in a move. Never did get to try any of the recipes.

Well getting ready to do Supersets, never did get to do them last week. :(

I got asked out on a date yesterday. Nervous. Haven't been on a date in 10 years.

Have a great night!

Hi all!

Wow a date Liberty, that must be nerve wracking after 10 years! Cool though too! Forensics sounds really interesting.

Lisa, I can't believe you can get up that early to workout! That would never happen for me. So how many points is the desert? I'm the same way, once I eat sugar I want to go crazy with it. I actually haven't been having much lately, just cereal and an occasional granola bar. Right now I'm actually the most motivated that I've ever been on ww, I hope that it lasts.

Well I managed to get in all body parts on my 4 days off this week (abs twice), plus 3 days of cardio including snowshoeing finally. Snowshoeing was tough, it was really deep powder and I'm too heavy for my snowshoes plus I had my son in a carrier on me so I had his weight too, so I was sinking midcalf to knees most of the time. It was quite a cardio and leg workout. Anyway I feel good about my workouts this week. If I do anything on the days I work I'll do core again and maybe a short cardio.

Happy workouts you guys!

Amy,
Awesome job getting them in!

Yea, nervous! LOL I think I have changed clothes at least 6 times so far! LOL He's picking me up in about an hour. We are going to dinner.

Did any of you read that article "Hierarchy of Fat Loss" in Open Discussion under the post with the same name? I would post the link, but I can't seem to figure out how to do that. Anyway, it made a lot of sense and has made me rethink my plan for losing weight. I've decided to do 3 hours/week of strength training as suggested by the article. I'm also going to do 2-2 1/2 hours/week of cardio, 2 high intensity interval training workouts and 1 high intensity aerobic workout like kickboxing. I'm going to do it all in my 4 days off, so I'll be working out for about 1-1 1/2 hours a day. I wasn't going to focus on strength training, I was doing it, but I was doing shorter workouts because I thought why bother since I have too much fat to see muscle definition anyway, but this article has given me a reason to incorporate it more. It's also given me a reason to REALLY want STS! I'm trying to tell myself I don't need it though because I have so many other Cathe workouts that will work just fine. Lisa, what do you think of STS so far?

Well if you ladies get a chance, read the article and tell me what you think.

Amy,
It was fine, he was so sweet! It almost felt like I was having dinner with my brother though! But, he called today to ask me out again, and I agreed. Who knows I may have just been really nervous.

Lib

Well, good luck, I hope he doesn't seem like your brother next time!

Amy,
LOL

Same here! I feel bad because now he's calling a lot, I don't want to lead him on. He's such a nice guy. I do not want to even consider getting involved with anyone for at least a year, preferably a couple. Now he's talking about taking my boys fishing, so need to sit down and explain that I don't want to bring him around them for some time. They already have enough to deal with without introducing them to a new man. Besides I dont even know where this is, let alone could be going.

I'm hoping it is just the nervousness of first date in many years that created that feeling. I always try to protect my heart now.

Funny thing is a dear friend of mine called yesterday and asked if he could take me out sometime. We have always been so very close. And he lives 10 hours away, so for him to come here just for dinner, says a lot about his interest. And he knows how I feel about school, my boys, and what I want from life now. So, I know he would be careful, not to mention neither of us want to ruin our friendship. I did agree, but asked to wait a couple of months (weather as well as other reasons) and he completely understood.

well my oldest is extremely sick, so I need to get going, still want to check out the link you mentioned before.

Have a great day!

I would love to join this group. I'm not sure if I can check in everyday. I try to work out in am and time is tight to get to work by 6:30am.

We need a weekly thread!!

Hi Girls!

Sorry I haven't posted for a few days...I somehow missed the new posts. We should come up with a weekly thread so it's a little easier to keep track of! We are now "buried" in snow...we have about 10 inches which is buried for central Ohio. I love the snow but to listen to those around me you'd think we are all going to die. Jeez!

I had a rough end to my week...mostly because I am a big baby. lol! I was doing really well with my diet and exercise until Weds. I had an appt Weds afternoon with an eye surgeon for an evaluation for laser eye surgery. I have been functionally blind w/o glasses since I was like 7. I used to wear contacts all the time so it didn't really bother me. Unfortunately about 2 years ago my eyes became very sensitive to contacts and I had to stop wearing them. So now I am stuck in glasses all the time which I hate!! It is not fun to work out with glasses on. So, I digress...at the appt I found out I was a bad candidate for laser eye surgery but that I could do ICL (implantable contact lenses). This was not good news for me...the laser surgery I could definitely afford at $1700 but the ICL is out of reach for me right now at $6,000. With my daughter getting married this summer and my son just starting braces we are a little tight on cash flow right now :( So I did what any grown up would do - I went home and pouted. I laid in my bed until dinner time, got up and ate junk food (including chocolate ice cream) and then sat on the couch and pouted some more. It was pathetic! I didn't work out that night...or the next night...or the next night. And I ate junk mostly for the next two days. Yuck!!

So I am over myself now and back to the grind. I finished my first week of STS. The legs workout was definitely the hardest. OMG!! It's really my first experience with a full length Cathe leg workout. She does not play. The upper body workouts were not as hard as I expected but I do have to throw out a disclaimer...I didn't work with as heavy weights as I probably could have. I didn't for 2 reasons...1 - the first mesocycle of STS moves really quickly. There is a LOT of equipment used and not a lot of time to get in place with it. I have to be very careful with my back and I have learned from previous experience that I am more likely to hurt myself moving weights than I am actually doing the workouts. I was expecting to be really fatigued during the workouts (which would make me more careless) so I intentionally went lighter. I am going to bump them up for week two because like I said, it wasn't as hard as I thought. As to whether or not you should buy STS...I don't know. Do you have any of her other heavy weight workouts? If so, I would stick with those for 6 weeks or so before you buy STS. The wonderful thing about being out of shape is that any weight training program you use will give you great results initially. After 6 weeks or so you might need something else.

I also read that article and found it interesting. It jived with other things I have learned over the years. I have believed for years that lifting weights is absolutely essiential to lasting weight management and overall fitness. That and I don't like cardio nearly as much  If I could just stay consistent with everything that I already know I would be in great shape!!

Speaking of staying consistent...I have decided to make the committment to exercise every morning before work. It's going to be tough because I have to get up at 4:30 am to do it but I am finding if my day doesn't go exactly the way I plan I tend to ditch my evening workout. Consistency is a must so I've got to make the workouts a chronological priority. I am sick of seeing the scale at such a high number. I need to get this weight loss done!!!

Ok girls, you are probably tired of reading my book so I'll quit for now. Have a great Saturday!!

Hello everyone,

Lovetocamp, welcome to the group! You don't need to check in everyday, just whenever you can. So how long have you been working out with Cathe? Which workouts do you do and which ones are your favorites?

Liberty, it sounds like you have a lot going on, with 2 guys interested in you! I can see why you would need to protect your boys and yourself though.

Lisa, sorry to hear about your eye problems. That's really crappy. Do you think you'll be able to have the surgery someday? Sorry you went off your diet. It's so hard to keep to it when you're feeling sad. I think you're right about me holding off on STS. I have Gym Styles and Slow & Heavy. I also have a bunch of Cathe's other weight workouts, so I have plenty that I can do. It's just so hard not to buy more of her workouts!

Well to day I did MMA Fusion. I love that workout! Now I'm going to do all the upper body work from 4DS. I've never done it all together before, so I'm not sure what to expect as far as how hard it will be.

I was going to post and say we needed to start a weekly check in too, so I will go ahead and do that today. I'll call it "Not in great shape, but getting there"

Have a good weekend!
