Noisy stepper!

Jul

Cathlete
i just bought a stepco. step at Sam's Club ($39.95) and between the sound of my steps on it and it creaking, it seems so loud. I work out in my basement at 5:00a.m. and since it's so quiet, I am afraid I will wake everyone with my noisy stepping and creaking! Are there any suggestions? I thought about putting it on a rug or something, but I thought it might slip causing me to fall. It may just be normal, but my old step was homemade out of plywood with a piece of carpet nailed to the top. I used it for 10 years! Worked great, but obviously there were no heght adjustments & it wasn't long enough for many of Cathe's moves. Any thoughts?

I have the same problem

I use a rug on top of my step. It has a nonslip back so I haven't had any slipping problems. The only thing I would mention is that if my legs are tired & I'm dragging my feet (not picking them up enough to put them on the step) my toe goes under the rug a little bit, which could trip me up. I have never tripped or fallen or anything though, I've just missed a couple beats of choreography when it happens.

Hi Jul!

I think it will quiet things down quite a bit if you put a carpet piece down. You don't have to worry about it slipping because the step has little rubber knobs on the bottom of each corner to prevent slipping. It is, however, only a slip proof situation if you get a piece of carpet big enough to accomodate both you and your step(say 6'by 6')and thin enough so that you don't trip on the carpet. Happy stepping!

Noisy Stepper

Hi All!

Jul, I have the same problem. I have a 22 month old son and I can only step after I put him down for his morning nap. The only problem is when I start to step he wakes up!! Ugh! I could not figure out how to quiet it down because I was already stepping in my family room which is carpeted. I figured out that it was the block/modules (those thingys that you add to give your step some height)that were rubbing together and making the noise. So what I did was I put the blocks down(I only use a six inch step) then i put a cloth baby diaper on top of each one, and then I put the top board on top of that. It seems like any towel would work as long as it is thin enough to allow the blocks to lock into one another like they are supposed to, and as long as they are not too big as to protude out from underneath the step. Now when i step it is absolutely quiet and it is still very stable and safe. I hope you understand what I mean...Let me know if you don't. I hope it helps!

Great idea Jennifer!

I'll try that as I feel so loud on my step also. Cathe sounds like a "feather" stepping and I sound like an elephant!! (Do feathers step???)

Thanks!

It's amazing what you come up with when you are desparate! LOL... It's funny, when I used to work out at the gym, I never noticed the noise. It is probably because the music is sooo loud. It doesn't become an issue until you have to be quiet. How annoying is it to try to be quiet and go across the board or do run-runs!? HAHAHA :)

My Problem...

will be coming up with some baby diapers. My babies are 21 & 27

!! I'm sure I'll come up with something that will work the same! Thanks again Jennifer!

Those are some Big Babies!!!

Ha! I laughed when I read your post! Too cute!
Jen :) You could always buy some and use them for dust rags..that what I use some of mine for now! :D

Okay Jen!

I guess that means if I want a quiet step, I have to clean house, huh??? Just kidding. Sorry everyone~~this is suppposed to be the VIDEO Question section, right? All right then, I'll dust my VCR off w/a diaper!!

what great ideas!

You guys always amaze me with quick and easy solutions to my problems! Most people would roll their eyes if I asked such a question, but my fellow exercisers always come through! I love the diaper idea! I've been doing it with a bathroom rug on it, that suggestion works well also! I'm just a bit worried that I will catch my foot, so I will try the diaper thing with kitchen towels. Thanks everyone for helping me solve another exercise dilemma!

AHHHH!

Im cracking up!!! Isnt this forum just great!? I have been reading it since the beginning of February and I have been amazed at how supportive and inviting everyone around here has been. I never had a reason to post before, but I am glad I finally did! And btw Deb, if I waited until my dusting was finished before I worked out, I would be in the worst shape EVER!!! LOL!! I would waaaay rather break a sweat than DUST--Ugh--as I am sure most of us would. HHAAA..
