Newbie...what do YOU recommend?

I'm looking for a Cathe workout (DVD) and I'm probably an intermediate level exerciser. I'm brand new to Cathe and just keep hearing how great she is so I really want to give her workouts a try.

I had my eye on the Cardio Kicks and Circuit Max DVD. Is this good for a new Cathe person?

Or would you recommend something else?

Cardio Kicks is great because she breaks everything down first, and it is one of her 'less intense' workouts (though it is still tough). Circuit Max (one of my favorites!) uses some 'vintage' Cathe choreography, so there isn't as much breakdown, but you are only doing 5 min. of cardio at a time, so if you want you can just keep rewinding that section until you get it, and then move on. I think this is a good DVD to start with! And don't worry, eventually you will own them all!

Hi there and welcome!

What are you looking for in a workout - are you wanting more weight training, cardio, or a combination of both? I think that would also help people to make suggestions.

Or if the Cardio Kicks/Circuit Max appeals to you, then by all means, it is a good one. I think some people find Circuit Max to be a fairly intense workout, so maybe its something you can grow with.

Welcome aboard!

Sorry I didn't elaborate on what I was looking for!!

I am looking for a well rounded, but fun workout. Something with cardio and some strength training...and a nice abs segment would be good, too. You know, something that has a little of everything.

Currently I have The Firm (first) Body Sculpting system. I have only done the Cardio Sculpt (I just got it and am in week one of the rotation), and I like it. Next week I add abs in.

So for now I'm looking for another workout to rotate with my Firm workouts. Eventually I'll probably get to the point where I want something that does something more specific...but for now I'm looking for well rounded.

Thanks for the welcome. This is a great site!

If its not out of your budget then, since you want variety, I would highly recommend the CTX DVD. This DVD has 6 different workouts of all kinds on it - all the same format: 30 min cardio workout (huge variety here from kickboxing to hi/lo to step) + 1 upper body part. One of the workouts is a legs only workout, and the upper body parts can be put together (I think there is a mix on the DVD) for a total upper body workout). So there are so many combinations and varieties you can do just from one DVD.

I'm sure there will be other suggestions as well, but if you are just getting going, its an excellent choice.

The only drawback to it is that some of the step cardio is a little more advanced in choreography. I don't know if you've done any step tapes before, so it might take some work to get all the moves. Some people start with some of the easier step tapes to learn the moves first.

But there are certainly lots of options on there and it leaves you lots of room to grow!

Since we Catheite seasoned spenders are great at recommending buying MORE than you'd anticipated, consider getting BOTH the CTX 2-DVD set AND the Cardio Kicks / Circuit Max single DVD. You get a break on the price if you buy these as one package (they were produced in a whirlwind in 2000), and there's a really good synergy to the whole shebang.

Wow...I am a little afraid to buy all of them because I haven't ever tried ANY of Cathe's workouts. I would hate to invest that much and not like them. Quick...someone convince me how much I'll love them.

So let's say I DID buy all of them...along with my Firm Body Sculpt series, what kind of rotation would you recommend for primarily fat loss accompanied with toning/strength training? I want to lose fat right now but eventually I will want to switch my concentration to strength training.

Oh...and to add another challenge to the question...I would prefer to only do a 5 day rotation (I really want to have Saturday and Sunday off if I can).

Trust us! You will love them!

BTW, welcome aboard.

You may want to get Interval Max 1 and 2 for the "fat burning" you want. They are great fun, challenging and will keep you in the "far burning" zone for a loooong time! :p

As far as rotations, they vary and there a tons of them in the Rotations section of the forum. Go check them out. Cathe is also putting out a monthly rotation since April targeting specific goals. For example, the July rotation specifically targets fat loss and definition, which is what you are looking for. Check it out and see if you want to get those workouts first. Lots of options....you'll Never be bored! BTW, I like my workouts so much, I sold my VHS and got all of them on DVD and whatever else I did not have! Take advantage of the Bundles (sets sold together). They will certainly save you tons of money.

Hi French!

WELCOME ABOARD! It's great to see all these new "newbies" here! I, too, think that the CTX Series is an excellent idea. Being an intermediate exerciser, you might have to modify the cardio a bit and lower your weights from what Cathe uses, but that is what is great about them. They fit the needs for everyone. They also include lots of AB/Core work. Let us know what videos/DVD's you decide to get and someone here will help you put a great rotation together. And, be prepared....you will want every tape Cathe has produced. Have fun and keep us posted.

Welcome newbie:) If I were you I would get the CTX Series or the whole Intesity Series. And for abs I whould get the Ab Hits which is great. I think anyone can modify when needed. Welcome to the forum.

Hi again! You said you were an intermediate level exerciser. Are you familiar with step workouts? I ask this because if you are not, and you do just want to start with something to see if you like the workouts, then your original choice Cardio Kicks/Circuit Max would be good. You can use Circuit Max as your hard day and Cardio Kicks on your cardio only day and then just fill in with your Body Sculpt series.
