New Thread - Mom's of Awesome Toddlers 9-1-05

Hey Emy.....you are just amazing....all that you went through with this birth and move. I believe when it's all said and done...you can do ANYTHING!!

Maggie....I should probably add...I never told the doctors not to weigh me. I did the normal weigh in thing. BUT when he told me not to gain so much, I told him "I could care less what I gain so don't lecture me about it". I remember an article in Mothering Mag a while back (like years back when I actually got mothering (closet tree hugger that I am)), that had a huge study done on weight loss post pregnancy and they found that those who gained the least amount of weight during pregnancy actually had a harder time returning to preprego weight than those that gained a great amount of weight during pregnancy. Seems you can prove anything with statistics, but I thought it was encouraging and I told my doctor about it.

You know...I would share with the doctor too that you are really stressing out about weight gain to the point of throwing up your meals just so he knows what he's putting you through...maybe he'll cool it with the negative comments. I, personally, would rather throw a weight at him, but I don't think we'll convince you to do that, right?? ;) ;) ;)

Emy...almost forgot. Turbo Jam is a new Beachbody cardio workout that is somewhat of a kickbox style with incredible music. IT's supposed to be so FUN that you forget what your doing - the music leads you to workout harder so to speak. I just got my workouts today so I'll let you know what I think soon....I'm going down to view them right now!!!

Yes, please post further about these workouts after you try them!

I was checking out collage today to see if there are any new workout videos that struck my fancy since my lazy butt hasn't really started back at working out yet. But, I guess since all of my workout equipment and videos are in storage, I have an excuse.

Okay, I'll just be waiting for you to tell me if this Turbo Jam is good...

I received my Turbo Jam workouts today too but haven't reviewed them. I love new workouts.

Emy, I think you have a reason. ;) How are you and the kids doing? My cousin was without a home for over a month when she and her family relocated to Texas. They stayed with friends. She was going mad and driving by her home to be several times a day. I told her I was fearful she was going to get arrested for stalking. :)

Well ladies, I have to get back into gear. I have been lazy... no exscuses.

Emy, glad you are hanging in there. Now, you will really appreciate your new house.
Maggie, discuss your concerns with the doctor . If you still feel completely stressed by the weight and eating disorder issues are returning you may want to get some brief counseling. I do feel the doctor was out of line and sounds like an a-- but you do need to take care of yourself and counseling may help you regain your self esteem and understand the root of your purging.

Hi everyone--

I have not purged since last week. I don't think it really helps anyway--I was just feeling especially out of control, because my back hurt and I could not work out--but I think I will mention these issues to my doctor.

Briee--that's an interesting study you mentioned, be cause I am a big gainer, but I have lost all my baby weight post partum and then some (23 extra lost in the case of #5) for all of my pregnancies except #4 (where I had gotten out of the habit of exercise)--still, I lost 50 of the 80 lbs in 16 months without trying. hmmmm--not that I'm looking for excuses to gain a ton or anything, it's just experentially, I would be a good example for that study. And I know a lot of women who gain less than I do, but over the years have become overweight, because they never quite lose it all before the next baby--working out and eating right post partum must play a role...probably more than the amount of weight gained during the pregnancy...although I'd still like to keep it to 40 lbs or less.

thanks for the encouragement everyone!

Maggie
eagerly awaiting Cathe's announcement:p :p :p

Have you all received the new workouts?

Girls, please post your thoughts about the new Cathe workouts if you have done them. I posted mine above.

Any thoughts?:D

RE: Have you all received the new workouts?

I've done the Step workout twice now. I really like it a lot. For me, not having the jumps is perfect! I do a little lift on the power 7's, but that's it. I'm terrible at knowing how to modify. It's great already knowing the chorography. The length of the entire workout is just right. I didn't time it, but there are two longer step routines and then a blast. The blast is not killer, like in the IMAX's, more like in LowMax. I tacked this on after doing PS Legs.

Total body strength w/o I used a 5lb. db. Depending on the exercise, you could go higher or lower in weight.

This morning I tried the Basic Stretching. I liked it. It was shorter than SM. There are some repetitious bells that play over and over and over. Other than that, the music in all the videos seem fine to me.

RE: Have you all received the new workouts?

Hi--I'm back just a couple hours later, compulsively checking the forums in hopes of the long awaited and much anticipated announcement--

I got my new DVD's last night and previewed them this morning. I have not tried either of them yet and since I have GS BSB scheduled for today, I might try the cardio one, but I also might wait until tomorrow. I think I'll bike while I preview the premixes.

The intermediate stuff is nice while pregnant, but I am jonesing for a new advanced series. I'm used to modifying downwards if I have too.

RE: Have you all received the new workouts?

Sorry Runathon, I didn't get her new ones.

I did get Turbo Jam. I did the learn and burn last night and then did Cardio Party #1. I usually HATE a workout the first time around, but I had a blast. About 15 minutes into the cardio party...I thought "I've got to stop.....my abs/back muscles were SOOOOOO tired. I guess I was really throwing myself into it and if you do...there is no doubt about it....your core will get a great workout. I have to do it a few times before a real review. I thought she was a blast and if you do all those ab tucks and keep your core firm and tucked, you'll have ripped abs in no time. I usually don't like dancey vid's or kickbox...but this was a good alternative. I will admit...I don't think I'd do it if there are people around especially at first - felt sort of silly, but realized that my abs were really working. I think the people that didn't think it was much of a workout or advanced...must not have tried at all. You can make it what you want. I liked the music, I liked it better than Billy's workout for some reason. Fun to do every so often. I'll let you know what I think of the others.

RE: Have you all received the new workouts?

I meant to add...I'm in a tremendous hurry so that was a quick post. I read something Maggie that I want you to read. "Created to be His Helpmeet" by Debi Pearl and there was a chapter that really triggered something in me when it comes to "self image". I'll have to post later, but wondered if you had read this book. ????

RE: Have you all received the new workouts?

No, Briee, I have not read the book. But I'm probably too wrapped up in my self image--vanity, pride and what not:p :p.

Maggie, who is on the forums for the 5th time today, checking on the "announcement", driving her husband crazy with impatience and speculation and who should be getting ready for Wednesday night bible study:p :p :p

RE: Have you all received the new workouts?

Girls, I did Low Impact Step again last night on an 8" step and burned 310 calories. Not bad for 37 minutes. I then did the first 13 min seg of the Stretch dvd. I really like that one.

On Monday I did a barbell workout with the Anderson sisters and my hamstrings are still hurting. Can you believe that?

Today I will be doing 10-20 min on the rebounder and then will do Power Hour. I haven't done that one in a while and am looking forward to the torture that awaits me, along with the wonderful music.

What have you girls been up to lately?

RE: Have you all received the new workouts?

Hi Runathon--

I did the low impact step leg premix (49 min) on a 6" step with no extra jumping, because I am pregnant and my back just can't handle it. I see lots of opportunity to increase the intensity of this workout when I am post partum, by going to an 8" step and lifting many of the moves. Even the blasts could have high impact substitutes, if one got creative.

I really enjoyed this workout as it felt good and somewhat challenging, but didn't kill me or my knee or my back.

Then I did GS BSB timesaver.

I have an all cardio day set for today, but I'm not sure what I am going to do yet.

Maggie, who is on the forums for the 2nd time today waiting for the "announcement"

RE: Have you all received the new workouts?

Is the announcement about a new Cathe series? That would be great.

Hey has any tried any David Kirsch workouts? I saw good reviews for his New York workout on collage, however, they were not very detailed.

I'm also interested in the new Kari Anderson Push workout. Anyone have that? If I decide to order from collage, I think I will also try the newer Seasun Zieger step workout because her first one is fairly tough.

Max is in our playpen and I can hear him in the other room. It has been over an hour and he still has not fallen asleep for his nap. On Monday he will be back in his crib and we will be in our house. The poor kid is cramped in there. He is almost longer than the playpen and has to sleep diagonally or curled up! (We have tried to put him to sleep in a bed, but he won't fall asleep).

I didn't order the new Cathe workouts either. I ordered the first batch of easier workouts last year and didn't care much for them. Has anyone seen these ones at Target yet?

RE: Have you all received the new workouts?

We don't know what the Cathe announcement is about, hence all the "anxiety":p :p--if it is not for a new advanced series, I will cry.

I think that her new easier workouts are better than last years and the premixes are very nice--perfect for me as a pregnant woman, but could easily be modified up.

I am jonesing for a new advanced series....My husband keeps telling me that she is going to announce retirement (he's teasing--he thinks I'm a bit nutty about my Cathe's). It would be unthinkable for her to retire....

Maggie:)
