Happy New Year!

So, after slacking off for 2 days this week (and probably gaining weight, especially after those yummy tamales yesterday!), I am determined to get in a workout today and tomorrow, then a yoga on Sunday!

I'll need all the willpower vibes you guys have to offer! No slacking for me today!

Everyone enjoy your day! We had about 3 inches or so of snow yesterday and are supposed to get some more today and tomorrow!

Take care!

Here's to a great start to 2010!

Looks great Alisha!

How are you enjoying Shock Cardio? Do you like the Bellydance dvd? I had a live instruction and I really miss her! She moved on me. I just don't know if I could work with a dvd now. I do miss my bellydance classes!

I'll be doing the novice yoga workout from Yoga Today on Sunday! My first time even though I signed up a while ago! I just keep slacking on Sundays. This year, it's not going to be that way!

Did my Step Heat workout today! I'll do Step Jam tomorrow, yoga on Sunday, then it's back to STS and the start of Meso 2!

Tricia ~ You can do it!! We'll need to talk about climbing some time. My first two jobs were as a climbing guide and I spent many years instructing and teaching climbing technique. There are a lot of things that you can do to improve your climbing and getting stronger - while great - is only a small part of that.

Alisha~ I love bellydance too and have taken classes and now I like to follow Shimmy on DirecTV when I get the chance. I'd love to hear more about your dvd too.

I rode two rides today - one fun-ride and one commercial ride. My car is in the shop so I rode my bike home from the barn. I'm counting that as my workout for today. The next couple of days are supposed to be VERY cold and windy so I'm not sure what is in store. I probably won't be able to make it in and out the driveway.

Lisa - I look forward to it! I wish we were close enough for me to take some lessons from you! My DH took an outdoor climbing class this past summer, but I didn't go. At the time, I was so weak in the upper body, I didn't feel confident enough that I could do it. I'm still not that strong, but it's improving with STS! I actually tested my military pushups today and was able to get 3 full pushups out! Yippee! I wasn't even able to do 1 before STS! I probably could have forced out one or two more! Gotta work on the pullups and chinups though! I didn't have the tower or a pullup bar, so I have to improvise with the band. Basically, I did seated rows on a slight incline.

Stocking up on equipment is going to be on the back burner for a while until my DH finds a new job. It's all good though! Being creative helps with finding other ways to accomplish the same thing!

I'll have to see if I can find Shimmy on hulu. We gave up our Direct TV a couple of years ago and to tell you the truth, I don't even miss it! We get all our favorite shows for free online and we have an antenna for local networks!

Glad you got some rides in! I love bike riding! We've ridden Block Island and Narragansett on our bicycles and did Martha's Vineyard on the motorcycle! MV is too big for the bikes! We're supposed to get more snow tomorrow. Hopefully, not too much!

Hi Ladies! Happy New Year!!!!

It is cold here but yesterday was just around freezing with some fresh snow on the ground so I tested my new Yaktrax and did 3.5 miles. They were great. I was worried that they would be slippering on bare road but they are soft enough that the coils give on bare street but grip in snow/ice. If you are doing winter running - I highly recommend them. Today was around 13-15. The wind chill tonight is going to be -15 and tomorrow's high is around 12.

I'm going to run indoors for the next couple of days. I've also done a lot of DVD's the last week which was a nice change.

OH! Tricia - I can't do pull ups either so I just got the Lebert Equalizer and I really like it as an alternative. DH is digging it too. www.lebertequalizer.com

Sounds pretty darn cold your way, Cindi! That Lebert Equalizer looks simple to use! I just wish it would adjust down for pushups, so as you get stronger you can work harder until you can do a regular push up. Plus, I like the push/pull tower because I can use it to put my barbell on so I don't have to lift it off the floor and up over my head for squats! Of course its a moot point right now as I really can't afford any new equipment for a while!

Hope it warms up a bit for you soon!

The have a variation for pushups tricia where you use just one of the bars on the floor at an angle. So you can do high push ups or low, but there isn't the ability to adjust beyond that.

I chose the Lebert over Cathe's tower because:
- I can't use a barbell - it hurts my elbow in that position. Instead I do dumbbells and weight vest. So no need to hold a barbell.
- I have long arms and wanted the flexibility to widen or narrow my stance and hand position which I get with the equalizer but not with Cathe's tower.
- I don't think the tower would be wide enough for my husband to comforatbly use. He's 6 feet tall and very big (270'ish) especially wide through the torso/shoulders. I don't think he would touch Cathe's tower but he is pulling out the equalizer.

I'm not trying to convince you one way or the other (or trying to put down Cathe's tower), just sharing my reasons in case anyone in interested in buying either piece of equipment.

I did the cardio premix from 4DS LIS, as always that one just flies by. Its road work then Yoga Today tomorrow (hee hee I love saying that, I don't know why, Yoga Today tomorrow.:p)

I went on a little shopping spree. I don't have any money really either but some items are necessities. I got a 6 pound med ball at Target for 17$, I saved 7$ on that, to go with the cardio core circuit. I got a pair of Asics gels at Sports Authority for 40$ and saved 10$ on those. I got two sports bras at Wal Mart for 11$ each and two pair of Danskin wicking sox for 5$ (I think). Almost everything was on sale! I love a bargain :D I think I mentioned I bought a jacket at Macy's the other day for 74$ at their big post Holiday sale. Normally I think it would have been 150$. The thing is I'm down to a size large now or xl and my other jackets are 2X. I can't look like I'm homeless.

I'm back on the straight and narrow as regards eats. I did my Kefir, raw almonds, millet pre workout then a few eggs and some fat free refried beans this morning postworkout. I'm making ratatouille for lunch. Would you like some? Its eggplant, zuchinni, mushrooms, stewed tomatoes and fresh anaheim chilis.

Tricia- I haven't done the Belly Dance disc in awhile so I will let you know. I was looking at my rotation and realized I wasn't using any of my dance discs or tapes so I changed it a little bit. From what I remember they really don't work as cardio but rather as over all conditioning. So, I'm tacking on a HIIT workout at the end. :D

Lisa- Thats really cool about being a climbing instructor. I don't think thats a sport I'm ever going to embark on, my hands get cold above my head, I don't even like climbing tall ladders  Stay warm!

Cindi- Happy New year! We don't get snow often enough for me to invest in the yaktrax, but they sound great.

Hi Everyone! Happy New Year!!

I didn't post yesterday but I did 5 rounds of 100 jump rope, 15 push ups, 15 swings and 15 barbell military presses.

Today I did the following workout outside. It's a little chilly but at least the sun is out.

4 Rounds
200m run
20 slam balls
25 swings
30 push ups
35 squats

My neighbor is grilling across the street and it made this workout all the more harder!! Still it was nice to get outside and workout.

Hi everyone. I'm fairly new to this forum but just ordered one of Cathe's DVD's so am becoming more familiar. One of my goals this year is to run a half marathon and also bought myself a great book from the Running Room with attainable training schedules!

I too use the Lebert Equalizers at home for lots of things including pushups. I also instruct a boot camp class and we have 12 sets at our gym now. There are so many other things you can do besides pushups (and there are lots of varieties of those). I usually have a pull up competition in my class once as month (top winner so far is a 55 year old female who has beat the men and can do 62!). I'm actually so sore from my last workout, that I just spent an extra ten minutes stretching my hamstrings with them!

Hi Webfit2,

Welcome to the forums!

I just got around to looking at the Lebert Equalizers. We used these at a fitness boot camp that I attended a couple of years ago. There is lots that you can use them for.

As far as pull ups, I had a pull up bar installed in my backyard and have one of the doorway kinds for inside use.

Cindi - All the info I can get is what I say! It gives me a better idea of how others are using a particular piece of equipment before I choose! It will be a while before I make any purchase at that level, so I'll probably be asking you again later what it is that you use! With a 6' husband, I can see why the tower wouldn't work!

Alisha - That's what I call a successful shopping trip! With bellydance, I always ended up sore in my core (I rhymed! Ha, ha!) after each class! That's always a plus because I hate doing abs! That's actually always the last thing to get toned! It's where I drop the body fat last and I don't work them out enough. I'm trying to do better this year!

Jane - Oh! It must have been torture to work out while someone was cooking! I've been in the house all day and it's also been snowing all day, lightly, but still, and I've been smelling pizza all day! What's up with that? There hasn't been a pizza in this house in several months! Must be an olfactory craving?

WebFit2 - Welcome to Catheland! Good luck with the half marathon training! We'll be expecting to hear about your progress and how the run goes when you do it! You'll get lots of cheering on here! Hope you visit often!

I did Step Jam today! I must say, the older step workouts crack me up! The routines are good and I get a nice workout from them (I know I'm repeating myself, but these are perfect for recovery week!). What makes me laugh is when Cathe shouts out, "This is hot!" All I can think of is Paris Hilton! LOL! That and all the old-time "Whoops!" They were so young!

Tomorrow, I, too, am hitting Yoga Today for this week's free novice routine! Guess I should throw some ab work in there, too!

Hi ladies,
I seem to be on the all-horseback-riding rotation this week :D. I rode yesterday in the freezing cold and wind. It is even windier today so I'm skipping the ride and doing a cardio coach and a Cathe workout. I haven't decided which ones yet.

My car is still in the shop. Apparently an idler pulley went bad and caused my timing belt to skip. If I'm really lucky, they'll replace those parts and the engine will be okay. If not, its going to get really expensive really fast. I've got my fingers and toes crossed. I'm supposed to head home on Wednesday to start the new semester.

Does anyone else follow Cathe on FitTV? They've changed the schedule and she no longer comes on at 7 am, 11 am and 7 pm. Instead she just comes on at noon and 7 pm. I'm a little bummed because the 7 am showing is the one that works best for me. It's not a real big deal (I usually do her dvds) but I like checking out workouts I don't have or occassionally doing something like Power Hour which I don't (and won't because of how its bundled) own. I'm not sold on the shows they've put in her place either - Bollywood dance and a "Workout for Weightloss" which seem to be geared more to the "It's January and I'm going to start working out now" crowd.

Can't believe you went out yesterday! Brrrr! I have been a hermit since it started snowing on Thursday! LOL! I so don't like being cold!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you too that your car is ready soon and doesn't need any more work!

I don't get FitTV, unfortunately, but I love your description of what they've starting airing at 7 a.m.! Funny, when I did have access to the channel, I would literally watch some of the workouts! Never was around during the time Cathe was on or I probably would have found her and started working out a lot sooner than last February!

Enjoy your workout today! And, stay warm!

I did Gym Style Legs which I got for Christmas. I LOVED it! I did the standing portions only but it was still a great workout. I actually hate doing floorwork for the lower body. Does anyone else feel that way? I don't mind doing floorwork for abs or inner and outer thighs but I'm not a fan of it for glutes and hamstring work. I don't know why. I also would rather do three sets of 12 or 16 with a heavy weight than endless reps of an exercise or those little pulsing moves. Anyway, I am very excited and want to get the two Gym Style dvds for upper body too. My birthday is in January so maybe I'll get them then :).

Tricia ~ I found Cathe on FitTV and actually when I'm home on the weekends I'll leave FitTV on all day while I'm doing things around the house. A lot of times I'll do Cathe in the morning and then watch the other shows while I'm eating breakfast or cleaning or whatever. I'm such a dork :D.

I just had lunch so I'm going to do a short Cardio Coach outside with Pip Squeak after a little break. When Pip and I run together we call is "Fat Girls Boot Camp" because she's a little chunk. Her nickname is "Pork Chop" :p. I did a short walk this morning with Ben and a friend and I was so bundled up I looked the Michelin man (the wind chill here is 13 degrees). I'm not sure how I'm going to dress for the run.

Welcome to our group! I'm impressed that you can even do a pull up.

This morning I did 20 min of intervals and an hour of yoga today.

Lisa - LOL! Michellin Man! I have such a cute image of that!

I wish I could get my Peanut to run! She's not much of a "peanut" anymore! She grew into herself! She'll walk, but only at her pace and for as much time as she wants! After that, she sits down and won't budge! Milo, on the other hand, is a marathoner! He's like the energizer bunny! He'll go all day and then some!

Well, it's back to work for me tomorrow - the office, then Meso 2 when I get home!

Did the Yoga Today workout today! It was my first one! Wow! I couldn't even come close to some of the moves towards the end! Very tight hamstrings and hips! I'm hoping that will get better!

Hi everyone and welcome Webfit!

Ended up taking a rest day yesterday, ran for an hour and 45 minutes today.

I'm looking forward to getting back to a routine tomorrow with school and work.
