New Runners February 2010

Hi ladies - I'm going running today. Funny you all were talking about the Gym - I joined with the kids just a few months ago. For the inside big track primarily but I like having access to a pool, spinning (eventually), Zumba, and the treadmills with T.V.s :) along with all the other cardio options. My treadmill at home is nice but there is no TV so for the length of time I'm on it, I'm staring at the wall or the display - not good. Plus my DH uses the TM everyday which is great, but sometimes hard for me to get it when I need it.

The kids are getting Jr. Certified today. It's a program they have for 10-13 year olds so they can workout while mom/dad are working out. They will learn to use certain weight machines and the cardio equipment and then have to practice and take a test. It's great for me because they can start to establish good habits now.

Oh - Honor (DD12) also takes tennis lessons through the health club.

Well I actually copped out of walking the dogs. I know, I'm a bad mommy but it was so cold and windy and I just weenied out. I took them over to my dogsitter's house where there is a huge (10 acre!) fenced yard and let them run around while I hauled a load of firewood up to my house. Fun, fun. This morning I did a short KB routine. For some reason I was feeling kind of puny and wobbly so I did 2 rounds of Pinnacle (from the Clinic dvd) and felt a little lightheaded so I called it quits and skipped the yoga. I may go to the gym this afternoon and do some cardio if I'm feeling sturdier.

Tricia ~ Bollywood is India's Hollywood and Bollywood dance is a lot like bellydance but without as much isolation. So lots of similar moves but the rest of your body doesn't have to be so controlled. It was fun, definitely not a hardcore workout but fun. It is on during the "Body Block" on FitTV (7-8 am and 11-12, the same time Cathe's workouts used to come on).

Cindi ~ It must be great to be able to have the kids at the gym doing things while you are working out. That sounds like a great program.

Hi Jane and Alisha!

Catch the personals later

Today is going to be seriously busy. I didn't get the BC in last night, I will do it today (no really, I will.) First, I'm going to Costco to get some batteries, then to work to video for a couple of hours, then to an Orchid fest over at the McKinley park Cymbidium meet, then its to the tax preparer's office, then its to the health food store, then to the regular food store, and then it will be workout time. Finally. I promise. I won't wimp out. I will do it. I've already packed my cooler with my eats for the day and my ipod is charged up and ready to go. Wish me lots of energy, I'm gonna need it

Hi Everyone,

I did my first race (a 5K) of 2010. My time wasn't that great but I felt good considering that I haven't run that much in the last couple of weeks. The temps were in the low 40's so not too cold but still too cold for me. I want the heat and humidity!!! It was a smaller race at a school. The money went to get playground equipment. They had cool shirts too! I'm still trying to find my groove again. Later today I'm doing to do a weight workout.

Alisha ~ I'm sending lots of energy your way. You have a busy day planned!

Cindi ~ That's great to you can bring you kids to the gym. It's a great way to get them started off on the right foot.

Lisa ~ Hope you're feeling better.

Hi Tricia!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Alisha ~ Oh yay! Orchid Fest! I want pics!! That sounds like a lot of fun. Enjoy your busy day.

Jane ~ Congrats on your race. We have to get started back somewhere, right?

Today I did yoga, an hour of racquetball and 15 minutes on the elliptical. I'm going to try to walk the dogs later (probably 2 miles). I'm thinking a full-body workout like Push-Pull or the Pyramid premix tomorrow.

More Orchids

I'm driving into San Francisco to the Fort Mason center to take more Orchid photos. So, no exercise for me.

Hi everybody!!!!

This morning I did Push-Pull. For some reason, my FitTV is not coming in (Weather Channel, Food Network, etc are fine?!?) so I didn't do merengue (which I was excited about) or yoga. I will probably do some yoga on my own tonight though. Saturday and Sunday are my fun day though where I watch and do whatever I like on FitTV so I was a little bummed.

Hi Everyone,

This morning I ran a 10K. I did it 2 minutes faster than I did it last time. I was dragging though. The weather was in the mid 30's but sunny.

Lisa ~ Sorry FitTV wasn't working for you today. I hate when that happens.

Alisha ~ Have fun in San Francisco. It sounds like fun!

Hi Everyone!

Jane - Congrats on your 5K! You'll get better with each race! To me, it's tougher when it's colder! Brr!

Alisha - Have fun! We know you'll get your workout in! Even if it's not a formal one!

Hi Lisa! How's your Sunday shaping up?

We didn't run today, but did 4.5 miles yesterday. That's a longer run for me. I told my DH I needed to start getting at least one longer run in each week. Of course, after that, my muscles were too tired today for a run! I'm also still sore from pullups on Friday! Maybe some yoga later.

Everyone have a good day!

Hi ladies!

Quiet weekend for us, just the usual stuff which was nice.

The kids had a lot of fun Friday at the gym with the Personal Trainer. Saturday they went with me while I ran. They did an hour of cardio (easy cardio) alternating bike and treadmill. Then they did their weight work. It was cute to see them walking around with their clipboards and pencils marking down their reps and weights. I was very proud of them. They have one more practice workout and then they take a test to be fully "certified".

Jane - Congratulations on your first 5K of 2010. :)

Alisha - Orchid fest sounds beautiful.

Are we getting a new thread for March? Can you believe it is March already? YAY SPRING!

Hi Jane and Tricia. Didn't we have some other runners here? Where'd they go?

My heel is stll hurting but I'm doing the exercises as directed by the Physical Therapist. I will see her twice a week for the next 5 weeks. Still ran this weekend but it was hurting.

Friday I ran 30 minutes easy then 30 minutes progression and then did a FIRM Wave workout. (about 6 miles)

Saturday was 20 minute easy, then 10x100 strides, then 12x80 hills, then 10 minutes easy. Then I did a little core and upper body with the kids. (about 4.5 miles)

Yesterday was 30 minutes easy, 10X100 strides, then 5k medium pace. (about 7 miles)

Today will be weights or maybe some weights/cardio mix.
