New Runners December 2009

Good Evening!

I did not workout today. I'm really struggling with my dad situation. Tonight he was talking nonsense. He is declining fast. Walking is very poor. It's so sad. I'm really trying to hold it together. This is my last night at my parent's house and then I'm home for 2 weeks. I'm looking forward to getting in some hard workouts. I've missed it so much.

Sorry to be such a downer tonight.

I hope everyone has a great night. Hoping tomorrow will be a better day!

Thanks!

Hello to Everyone!

Finally checking in again! Looks like a lot of activity this week!

Cindi - I'm taking that recipe too! It looks absolutely delicious!

Jane - {{{hugs}}} I can't imagine how difficult it must be to watch a loved one decline in health like that. Know that I am sending my prayers to you and your family. You have a lot of strength and love, so you'll be fine. Know that we are all here to support you.

Lisa - I love STS! Haven't seen many changes other than my pushups are improving! I am still on my knees, but I can finally see some strength gains there - just a little, but enough to keep me motivated! I have one more week of Meso 1, then it's active rest. I'm sure I'll see some real changes during Meso 2! Of course, my body fat is going nowhere fast, but that's my own fault! That's okay! I reached my official goal weight of 125 back in August and, since starting STS, I have dropped another 2-3 lbs. I'm staying between 122-124 now which suits me just fine! It's nice to have a little play for those splurge days!

It's nice to see that we are all sticking with our workouts even if on a reduced basis! I usually fall off the wagon this time of year, but I have a great program and fantastic motivation from all of you! This is my best run yet!

So, next week is Christmas week and I know some of you will be traveling! Safe travels, enjoy your visits and, if no one checks in between now and next Friday Merry Christmas to all of you! I hope you have a beautiful and happy Christmas!

Of course, I'll be here!

Hi Ladies!

I am feeling much better today. I got home in the morning and made some cookies and then did an Insanity workout.

Tricia ~ Thanks for the hugs and support!

What is everyone doing for the holidays? I'm staying home and will be working all this week (except for Friday).

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hi Jane!

We're staying home as well. A nice, quiet Christmas together for the two of us. A modest Christmas dinner, maybe a movie. I'm off from Dec. 29th through New Year's Day. I'm hoping to be motivated to make some cookies tomorrow. While I'm off, I'll be making tamales!

Hi Everyone!

Tonight I'm running downtown under the Xmas lights. It's going to be a chilly run. It was in the 30's this morning and will be tomorrow morning as well. Luckily we will be back up into the 70's by Xmas Eve.

Yesterday I did Cathe's HSTA. I haven't done that one in a long while. It was fun!

Tricia ~ Your Christmas plans sound similar to mine. In fact, I really looking forward to eating all the stuff that I don't during the year. We are having Raspberry and Cinnamon Kringle for breakfast. Lunch/Dinner we are making french dips with garlic fries and a Cesar salad. Dessert will be candy (Fanny May) and Christmas cookies.

My sister and I are going to try and get up early and run. I really want to run downtown in the am. I drove through this morning and it was very well lit and deserted.

Waves hello to the rest of the gang.

Have a great Monday!!

Hi ladies!

Cindi ~ Thanks for the recipe. I LOVE Indian food.

Jane ~ I'm sorry to hear about your dad. ((HUGS))

Tricia ~ Have fun with STS and keep us updated on how you are liking it.

Alisha ~ Hi!

I finally dug out today - I haven't left the house since Friday and I don't have computer access at my house so... Anyway, we got about 18 inches of snow up here. I spent Friday and the weekend just hauling firewood and tromping through the snow with the dogs. Andy came up yesterday so I dug out the end of the drive for him to get his truck in. Once the truck packed a track the Subaru was able to get out today.

At some point on Saturday I hurt my back while tromping up and down the steep hills with the dogs in the snow so other than firewood and shovelling, my workouts were pretty lightweight. A girlfriend gave me Ellen Barrett's Yogini workout for a Christas present so I did it Friday and Sunday. It's a lot of stretching so it was good for my back. Saturday I limped through Super Sets but it wasn't a great workout by any stretch. I wanted to kettlebell but my back just wasn't up to it. I haven't tried to workout at all today other than stacking some firewood with Andy.

I am heading to WV in a couple of days to spend Christmas with the family then I'll head back down to Hatteras and my boys for the rest of break.

Lisa

Oh I almost forgot. Here is the requisite picture. :D

Catching up

The craft fair in review: we made about 135 dollars. It was an experience. I discovered that I do a better muffin than a chocolate. I also discovered that having less items to choose from would have been better for people. And, I think I needed a bigger sign. However, that said I think it went well. I would do this again next year. I think I like selling artwork better, but people buy cookies faster than they buy art.

On Saturday I went to my Harry Potter club mtg/party. I did ok. I had two smallish slices of pizza and one small piece of apple pie. I discovered, that even though I don’t have celiacs (was tested negative.) I really can’t do the gluten. All day yesterday I felt like I was in some sort of coma. I was grumpy, tired, felt awful, had a headache that just wouldn’t go away. I went to bed at 7 pm. I woke up this morning at 8 am. I still feel tired. I look like I was a raccoon, black circles. I’m staying home from work.

I’m watching myself closely. For carbs I’m sticking to whole fruits and gf cereals (gf is gluten free btw.). Breakfast was gluten free millet and coconut milk. The So Delicious unsweetened coconut milk is really low in carbs and fat. I also had two scrambled eggs. For lunch, I had a cup of broccoli slaw with coconut fat, 2 thin slices of low sodium ham, a small box of black berries, and a banana. Not really low carb but not really high carb either. I try to stick to my planned diet but I do vary from it, mostly its just guidelines.

This week’s rotation (revised of course.)
Sunday RS
Monday: Kick It (not Cathe) kick boxing 30 minutes. Yoga
Tuesday: Original Imax
Wednesday: Kathy Smith Hi Lo Weight loss workout 40 min., Yoga
Thursday: SB
Friday off
Saturday: SJP

Lisa- I’m a food-a-holic too. Sugar induced coma bwa ha ha nope not comatose. I might be if it weren’t for Cathe. I love doing hills. I hope your back feels better soon.

Jane- I’m a weather wimp too. I don’t like it above 95 or below 50. Its like I’m some sort of hot house plant. I don’t wear turtle necks either. I’m real sorry to hear about your Dad.

Cindi- Yikes it sounds cold there! Holiday season is fun for us musical types. Ooh, you knit that’s awesome, I have been meaning to learn. I have my needles and some yarn (donated from my Aunt Peggy.)

Tricia- I would give you the leftovers but I think we are eating them! Lol! Well, my Dad and my Mom’s work are eating the leftovers, I have to be on watch with myself. Mmmm Tamales. I’m so sorry about your DH’s job!

Thinking out loud

I know I just posted a novel, but I've been delinquent in my postings (not really having the time.)

I'm looking ahead now. 2010 looks bright from here. Now that I am feeling better (burned throat not with standing, that will heal and doesn't seem to be slowing me down much.) I'm looking at the big picture for next year. How many of you are getting STS Cardio? Mine should arrive on the 29th, I was too frugal for the expensive shipping. I figure I will toss the MMA and Hiit in where I was jogging until this mountain lion finds a new home.
Broken down like this:

Day 1: Kick Box
Day 2: Step Steady State
Day 3: Hiit, Full Body Yoga workout (intense)
Day 4: Hi/Lo
Day 5: Step Intervals, Easy Yoga
Day 6: off
Day 7: Circuit

As soon as the mountain lion goes home, I plan to work the C25K again. I'm assuming he will be gone soon. And, after that I would like to do a training program for a 10k. I do miss the running.

Hi Everyone!

I had a great run last night. It wasn't as cold as I thought it would be. It was in the mid-50's and there was a gorgeous sunset. Wish I had my camera with me!!

Tonight I'm doing a leg workout. It will either be GS Legs, PLB or something from STS.

Alisha ~ Glad the craft fair was good for you...well an experience. Experiences are good because then you know what to do next time. I hope you feel better today. I hope the Mountain Lion goes home soon so you can run.

I ordered Shock Cardio but I haven't received it yet nor a shipping notice. I guess I will be surprised when it comes!! If it doesn't come by the middle of next week, I will check on it. I think I chose the less expensive shipping option.

Lisa ~ I loved the pictures of your doggies. I'm glad you got dug out. I remember those days very well. Hope your back is feeling better. Enjoy the holidays with your family!

Hi to Tricia and Cindi!

Hi ladies,

Jane ~ Your run sounds great! Thanks for the picture compliment :)

Alisha ~ I'm glad the craft fair went well. Here's hoping the mountain lion wanders off and finds himself a new home!

Cindi and Tricia ~ Hi!

I just got back from my OB and found out that I have a kidney infection. So that explains why I've been feeling under the weather and why my back hurts. I'm going to give the antibiotics a couple days before easing back into things. Other than that, I'm going to try to make it to WV before the freezing rain does.

Lisa

Hi everyone! The kids are on vacation and I am too for this week and next. I won't be around much between now and Christmas, maybe more after that.

Lisa - I hope you feel better soon!
Alisha - That craft fair sounds fun. Congratulations on your sales. :)
Jane - I'm really sorry to hear about you dad. Mine has early dementia. Not sure how the years ahead are going to play out. Its already very hard for my mom.

Ran 9 miles Sunday, then had a sleepover date with DH last night. The kids slept over at the baby sitter. We went out shopping and then dinner/hotel. Very romantic but I drank too much and felt like taking a nap all day long today. Feeling better now and will probably go for a run. I think I'm less dehydrated now and that's helping! I'm such a light weight. 1 class of wine and 2 glasses of champagne and I have a hangover. Oh well. :)

lots of baking/cooking/wrapping the next couple of days.

Everyone have a very merry christmas. I'm at 983 miles as of Sunday. I should hit 1000 with days to spare!

Hi Everyone!

I did STS Legs last night. I really liked the workout. It went by fast and the moves were different every time. I'm waiting for the DOMS to kick in later today.

Tonight I will be doing an upper body kb workout (swings, crush curls, push presses, rows and push ups) 5 rounds of 10 reps. Then I will go inside and do the Shock Cardio 40/20 HiiT workout. I got my workouts yesterday but only previewed the HiiT workouts. I like the fact that they are 30 minutes so I can tack them on to other workouts.

Lisa ~ I'm glad you found out what was making you feel sick. Rest and take it easy. Hope you made it to WV.

Cindi ~ Sorry to hear about your dad's dementia. If you have any questions please let me know. Dad is in stage 7 (alzheimers). He has dementia but his symptoms mirror alzheimers. I feel for your mom. It has been hard on my mom too.

I'm glad you'll be able to get in your 1000 miles this year!

Waves to Tricia and Alisha!

Hi Everyone!

Been a slacker at checking in lately! So much activity! Work has been very busy and I've been working out like a maniac! LOL!

Lisa - So sorry to hear that you've been unwell! Glad you have a diagnosis and are on the mend!

Cindi - An early congratulations on your 1000 miles! I know you'll make it!

Jane - Have you done a full round of STS already or do you just incorporate it in now and then?

I'm still doing STS and am on my last Disc of Meso 1 on Friday - Legs! I REALLY am ready for that rest week! On the other hand, I'm very excited about Meso 2! I'm really hoping to see some serious improvement in definition and musculature! Tomorrow is IMAX 3 - first time ever with this one!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas! Can't wait to hear about all your terrific new workout aids/gifts! Ha, Ha! I know I'm hoping for some!

Have a great evening!

Merry Christmas 2009!!!!!!

Good Morning, today is Step Blast. I'm close to being all set up. For some reason, getting set up seems like half the battle :p I have my healthy eats planned for the day. I'm getting a jump on my New Years resolution.

A very Merry Christmas to all the runners, may you run long and taper.

Alisha

Merry Christmas ladies!

Thanks for the well-wishes. I made it to WV. I haven't managed to workout yet. I'll let you know when I do :D.

Lisa

Okay ladies,
I'm back and bumping us up. I did Providence this morning and felt good. I think the week off was probably a good thing in the long run. Since I've learned to snatch (thanks AOS Clinic!) I did one minute of the snatch challenge which I don't usually do. We are getting ready to have the family over for breakfast then I'm headed down to Hatteras. I hope everyone is enjoying the festivities.
Lisa

Today should be yoga and 4DS HIS in the evening. I slept wrong and my right shoulder/elbow was hurting because its so cold in my room. But, I expect that by this evening I will be ok. I did have an eating issue with a piece of home made rocky road but I ate my gluten free cereal and coconut milk. Lunch will be mushroom soup. Yum.

This next week has one challenge day, Monday. I'm going into the city (San Francisco) and will be brown bagging it. I will bring gluten free snacks, cuties oranges, snow peas, carrots, roast beef and iced tea (cinnamon/apple caffeine free). It always helps to plan. Also, I will take tomorrow off since this is my 4DS week. I always intend to stay on my plan but those first moments in the morning I'm hungry and weak I need to work on that time of day and my resolve. I just can't wait till my STS comes. This waiting is making me slightly nuts. I'm checking my email and my UPS tracker like three times a day. The package hasn't moved since the 22nd. Ugh:confused: so of course now I"m shopping the Cathe sight and picking out which Cathe dvds to get for my birthday which is in March. The only thing is, what will Cathe want to make next? idk.

Happy week everybody!

Alisha
