New Runners December 2009

Oh boy, what a mess, Lisa! I hope it gets fixed soon. I can't grow a plant to save my life. No green thumb here.

Took a day off from running yesterday - did a TurboJam workout - Total Body Blast (with the ball).

Will run today - inside or out - not sure - it's snowing now and getting worse!

Hi All,

I didn't workout yesterday but tonight I'm planning to run downtown under the Christmas lights (unless it rains). This will be first time I'm running downtown after my fall so hopefully it will be a more pleasant run! I will definitely be looking at the ground the whole time.

Cindi ~ I hope you get to run outside today. I'm listening to WXRT on the computer and they are talking about the snow.

Lisa ~ Sorry about the greenhouse!

Waves hello to Tricia and Alisha.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hi again!

I think mother nature wanted me to run today! The snow stopped just as I was freeing up to go for a run. Ran 6 miles on the running path here and it was beautiful. I think the snow is coming back though along with the wind. Tomorrow won't be so nice.

Hi everyone,

Cindi~Glad you were able to get a good run in. I have a troubled history with fudge. Many of my batches of fudge have turned into hot fudge sundae topping when they failed to set.

Jane~I hope you had an enjoyable and SAFE run downtown.

Alisha and Tricia~Hi!

My greenhouse is still a mess. It will take the rest of the week to get it sorted out and a couple of months to get everything replaced. Some things are not replaceable this time of year.

I got in a walk last night and PLB. I didn't feel motivated to work out and PLB is something I can do with little mental effort - just pick up the dumbbell and move until Cathe stops counting. I guess that means that I'll do PUB tonight. I don't think I'll get any cardio in today. I'll get back on track with that tomorrow or the next day.

I hope everyone is having a good day.
Lisa

Hi All!

Haven't checked in in a few days! Been missing the gang!

Jane - Good workout - at least it looks like it! I couldn't imagine it wouldn't be!

Lisa - Sorry about your greenhouse! That had to be a real bummer! Hope you get things fixed soon!

Cindi - OMG! Send some of those yummies my way! I don't do a lot of baking, mostly cookies! A cheesecake for Christmas dinner and that's about it! It would be a disaster, especially this year as I have lost so much weight! I'd gain 10 pounds!!! Sounds delicious, though! Yes, I remember the drop in the glass test! My Mom and my brother both used that method! LOL!

Hanging in there with STS and indoor cardio! My DH is in San Francisco today through Thursday for a technology conference. I miss him when he's gone! At least he'll be home Thursday night!

Wish he had time to go to Napa and bring home another couple of bottles of wine! Not that we've even touched all the wine we brought home in September, but you can never have too much!:eek::eek:

Stay warm!

Its Snowing!

This is rare for us. The last time was twenty years ago. We got 6 inches to a foot of snow. I'm not running on ice. So its all Cathe and yoga this week. Monday was Step Fit, yesterday was Yoga with Gary Bromley, today (sometime) is LIC. Tomorrow will be off because I'm selling my confections at a craft fair. I still have to bake muffins, spice loaves, and chocolate chewies. The holiday cookies are the wild card.

My menu is as follows:
Dark chocolate truffles
Butter Pecan bon bons
Orange Cremes
Coconut Cremes
Dark Mint Chocolate
Milk Mint Chocolate
Milk Rocky Road
Dark Rocky Road
Dipped Pretzels (milk, dark, and white dipped in candy cane dust)
White Almond Cranberry Bark

Cookies:
Ginger Snaps
Trail Mix Toll House cookies
Butterscotch Bars
Double Chocolate Chewies

After all this baking, I'm just not interested in sugar and chocolate anymore. I only taste tested little nibbles here and there to be certain that everything was ok. Go figure. I will do personals on Friday due to my wicked busy schedule.

That all sounds wonderful! I'm making Spritz cookies on Friday for my son's Cub scout meeting. Then later I'm making gingersnaps, toffee bars, and sugar cookies for ourselves and the neighbors.

I'm doing a cookie exchange at work next week and haven't decided yet what to bring. I may just do another pan of toffee bars.

Snowy blowy here today. I'm most definitely not running outside. Instead I think I will head to the indoor track at the community center for an hour run.

Good morning ladies,
Alisha ~ Your baking sounds fabulous and I hope you get an incredible response at the craft fair. You've worked for it! I love to bake too and usually make cookies/poundcakes/etc for Christmas presents but I'm passing on that this year. I eat too much (I love any cookie, etc in its raw form) and wind up spending a bundle of money and time in the process too!

Cindi ~ Ooh, cookie exchange - I love it! My mom just borrowed my cherry-chocolate chunk cookie recipe for her cookie exchange at work this year. Your toffee bars sound yummy!

Tricia ~ I make a pumpkin cheesecake for Thanksgiving eat year and have a fabulous cheesecake recipe from my mom for special occasions too. Mmm, cheesecake.

You all may have noticed at this point that I'm a bit of a food-whore :). I can't help it. I was raised in one of those church communities where every life event was met with dinner and baked goods - new child, illness, death, marriage, etc - bake and bring dinner and dessert! My mother is a total emotional eater and I learned a lot of bad habits from her that I still struggle with. Other bad habits I just came up with on my own .

I was very unmotivated last night, ate too much (and the wrong things) and sat on the couch and fell asleep early. So I didn't do PUB. I did Providence this morning which made me feel less nasty and bloated. I'm going to take the dogs for a run this afternoon. The weather is gorgeous and sunny today for a change. I'm trying not to feel off-kilter since I did PLB and then skipped PUB. I'm having a hard time this week and hoping that my KB Clinic DVD shows up today or tomorrow so I can do it on Friday. I hope everyone has a great day.

Waving hi to Jane and anyone lurking!
Lisa

Hi All,

I had a very pretty run last night. Downtown was all lit up, there were delicious smells coming from the bakery and the church bells were playing Christmas Carols. I did not trip and fall! Yay!!

Tonight I'm doing a Tabata workout!

Darn Heavy Tabatas!
Go Heavy
Suitcase Deadlifts
Swings
Anchored Sit ups
Balls Slams
20 sec work/10 sec rest, 8 rounds

You guys are making me hungry!!!

Alisha ~ Good luck at the craft fair. It sounds like fun!!

Another baker here. My family and I used to make about 25 different Christmas cookies every year. Then we would get together and make up boxes and trays and give them to friends and family.

I try to stay away from baking though because I tend to eat what I make. I used to make all the desserts at my ex-company's Christmas party. I loved doing that. I haven't been much of a baker lately but I enjoy reading about everything that you guys make. It all sounds so yummy!!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Lisa - Food-whore. That's funny! I know what you mean about churches and food!

Jane - that sounds so fun - 25 kinds of cookies. I wish I could do that - my family is just too far away and I'm too busy. I do what I can. Glad you didn't fall!

Ran 5 miles over lunch at the indoor communicty center track. It is REALLY windy outside today and snowing pretty much constantly.

Cindi ~ I don't even want to mention that it's about 79 degrees here and sunny. We had storms earlier in the day but now it's beautiful. Unfortunately it will be only in the low 50's tomorrow. That's winter for me. I know I'm a wimp!!

Great job on the run today!

Hi Ladies!

Food whore! LOL! Yep. If you're from the South, EVERYTHING is about food, so I can really relate to that!

Alisha - I know you'll sell every bite and crumb at that fair! If not, let me know, I'd be happy to take the rest off your hands! Dibsies!

To all those still out there running outdoors, kudos! My DH is in SF this week and he ran this morning down to Nob Hill and back to his hotel, got a little turned around in the process, but still made it to his conference on time - barely! I think that's just funny as he has a GPS built in to his iPhone. Of course, now that I think about it, he probably didn't take that on his run, just his shuffle!

Anyway, Lisa I'm glad you didn't injure yourself this time on your downtown run! Yippee! We'll just call that a fluke (that first one!)!

My Dad is sending me my tamale fixins'! Yea! I'll be trying my hand for the first time since being a helper to my Mom so many years ago! I'll do that for New Year's. Wish me luck! I've never made them myself before. My Dad would do the meat, Mom would mix the masa and spread it on the corn husks, then us kids would fill them and roll them and Dad would steam them. It was a major production and took all day 'cause Mom would make several dozen to freeze and have available through the year and give some to friends. I won't be making quite that many, but I want enough to pull some out for a meal here and there.

Well, I'm angled to the left, hunched over a beagle that's snoring in my lap to type and my right side is getting tired, so I'm off for now!

Take care Everyone!

today is a rest day for me. 20 below windchills this morning. It could be worse though! Seems like the storm died down before it got to Illinois.

Jane ~ Great job on your run! Sounds like it was pretty and you got back on the horse.

Cindi ~ Sounds like you had a good run. It would take my whole lunch hour to run 5 miles (I'm the Queen of the 10 Minute Mile).

Tricia ~ Hugs to the beagle! My Ben doesn't understand that having his head under my arm and his nose on the keyboard doesn't actually help me type faster. Pip Squeak, being all about the speed, doesn't understand that actually helping push the keys doesn't get the job done faster either - there is a precision element involved too. Oh well.

Alisha ~ Hope you are doing well and aren't in a sugar-induced coma! Your will-power is incredible.

I did CC V3 last night at the orchard with the dogs. Since I'm running a hilly route, I do all challenges for speed and just accept whatever incline I have at the time. I did challenges 1 and 3 a second time since I wanted to cover 3.5 miles either way. My AOS Clinic dvd came today and I'm really hoping I have time to do it tomorrow morning before work.

Have a great night everyone,

Lisa

Cindi - Wow! I guess I have nothing to complain about where the weather is concerned! BRRRRRR!!!

Lisa - Oooh! I just love getting packages! It's my favorite thing! Hmmm, there's a song in there somewhere . . .

I hope you enjoy your new kettlebell dvd! Can't wait for the report!

My DH made it home on time tonight from SF! All settled in and we're watching The Daily Show while we both catch up on our online social networks!

Have a great night everyone!

Hi everyone! I hope if you are in a warmer climate you are enjoying it. It doesn't bother me at all. I grew up in the midwest so I'm used to seasons. Although I do get pretty cranky in March if it doesn't start to thaw so be warned. :)

Got up extra early and made a bunch of spritz cookies for my son's pack meeting tonight. The wind chill is still below 0 which I think is going to be my threashhold for outdoor running. I'll run indoors today.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. We had 2 Concerts this week (Band and Orchestra) and another one tomorrow (my DD Suzuki program orchestra). Next week it's Chorus (DD) and my younger son's combined school music, chorus, band concert. Fun but busy!

Hi Ladies!

Just dropping in to whine a bit and I hope you don't mind. If so, feel free to skip this post! :)

What a week. As you know, my DH was in San Francisco on a business trip. He left Monday was denied his seat on his connecting flight (his first flight was late) and had to wait for another one which ended up getting him in SF at 1 a.m., at his hotel at 2 a.m.,then he had to be up by 6 a.m.

His flight home yesterday was on time, but he was surrounded by unruly brats from SF to Detroit!

To top things off, he went in to work this morning and was let go. :( Yes, we are now victims of the economy. I hate that this happened to him. He's so smart and has a great instinct in investments.

I know we'll be okay. We survived on one income before. I just hate that things were going so well! We were finally off to achieving some of our goals and now BAM back down on the floor!

Okay, I'm done. It's all going to be fine! I just wanted to share and let it out with the people I feel most comfortable talking to. Sad, isn't it, that I don't really have a lot of friends locally! Most of them are in other states and right here in Catheland!

I still did STS Disc 9 Legs! Ouch!

Take care all!

Hi Everyone,

I did not workout today. I was at my parent's house all day. Yesterday I did the scrambled cardio premix from Drill Max.

Tricia ~ {{{HUGS}}} so sorry to hear about your DH. I hope it all works out for you. I know that my company is having financial trouble so I know that there will be laid offs soon. I am saving up so much money as I can just in case.

Lisa ~ Have fun with the AOS Clinic. I don't have it but I have heard it's good!!

Cindi ~ I loved the cold weather when I lived in Chicago. I was born there and lived there for 27 years. After living in the South for the last 20 years I have become a weather wimp. We had a chilly day today. It was in the 50's but windy so I'm sure the wind chill was in the 40's. It was dark and dreary. I just don't handle it well but then again I really don't dress for the cold either. I only have a handful of sweaters and I really don't have a decent coat. I do have my nice thick mittens from when I lived in Chicago but I'm too lazy to pull them out for just a couple of days.

Hope everyone is having a great night.

Jane - That's too funny about being a weather wimp! I did the same thing while living in the South! Never owned a coat, just sweaters and light long-sleeved t-shirts. 50's! We have an arctic blast we're suffering through right now and the high yesterday was 27 without the ridiculous wind we had! I hate that part! I can handle the normal winter temps, but those ABs are killer!

I can't wait for the Workout Blender so I can create those premixes that I don't have with the digital versions of Cathe's workouts! I have to substitute other dvds when a rotation calls for a premix. That's why I'm not worrying about using the December rotation for a while because it's all premixes!

Thanks for the hugs! We are survivors and he's already got a potential line on another job - if he hears back from his contact about where to send his resume.

Good luck to you, too! It's nerve wracking wondering if you're next, so I hope your company doesn't have to do layoffs and, if so, I will be keeping my fingers crossed that you don't end up on that list! I can't wait for this economy to get straightened out!

Have a great weekend! Enjoy your mild weather down there! LOL!
