New neighbor's dog pooping on our property!

It was bad enough that I dropped off a bouquet of flowers to welcome them to the neighborhood... then heard nothing... no thanks, no nice to meet you, nothing. Now, my DH has discovered that their dog has been pooping on our property. He is absolutely livid... he wants to write them a letter complaining. I'm usually a "give them the benefit of the doubt" kind of person, thinking that maybe they're not aware of it, and maybe we could just casually mention when we happen to see them. This has just gotten my mellow Sunday off to a bad start. What has happened to common courtesy!x(

I know how you feel!! Our next door neighbor's dog has actually come into our garage and peed on stuff in there! When we mention it to it's owners they tell the dog what a bad boy he is but make no attempt to keep him from coming over here. The bad part is that he's only out running around when they are outside with him so I can only assume that they don't care!! Aaaarhg!!

I have the same problem as well and I think our neighbors are beyond rude! The sad part is they are usually outside when the dog is and they just don't seem to care.

Sorry to hear that's happening to you. Good luck trying to get the neighbors to cooperate. We have the same problem with our neighbor's cats. They have killed several of our shrubs and were pooping in my flower/veggie garden. We've talked to the neighbors and they will do nothing about it. We've had some success keeping them out of the gardens with well placed monofiliment line but I don't know how you can keep a dog off your property unless there's a fence. Unlike cats, dogs will poop anywhere.

Sorry I'm no help but I completely understand your problem. I'm a dog owner myself and would be mortified if my dog relieved herself on a neighbors property. Some people just don't get it.

Can't you go over and nicely tell them that their dog is using your yard as his toilet? Then ask if they have a fenced-in area they could contain him in to prevent future problems.

Many problems can be solved if you just get the nerve to talk nicely about it. I've had the same issues with my own neighbors and in both cases, they were very apologetic and have since contained their dogs.

Otherwise, there are products you can apply around your property that give off an odor that repels dogs and cats. I don't know what kind of area you are in, as this might not be feasable if everything is open to everything else (no fences).

I feel for you, people don't seem to get how disgusting it is to have to deal their dog's crap x( I was doing a spring walk-about our yard this week and found a bag that someone threw over the fence with dog crap in it aaarggghhhhhh!!!!!
I can't go in or out of my house without the neighbour's dog yippin' at me and it pi$$es me right off. Train you gosh darn dogs people!!!! I moved in last May and was the one to go over and introduce myself to try and get off to a friendly, neighbourly type start. The neighbour prompltly informed me that she likes her gossip and she likes her beers. Not a great start....now I'm not so sure that I can hide my ample annoyance when I muster up the courage to say something. Please let us know how it goes and if you have any success talking your neighbours.

Take Care
Laurie:)

Well if they are not going to exhibit common courtesy you need to get creative. First, I would mention it to them; maybe they aren't aware. If it continues, tell them if they don't control their dog you will collect all the dog poop in your yard and "return" it to them each week. Then do it. Put it in a bag and stick it in the mailbox or dump it all over their front steps. I heard of someone who took a shovel and flipped the poops in her yard all over the neighbor's car. Their dog never came into her yard again.

Can you tell I have no patience with this sort of thing? Control your animal!

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow - what a ride!’ — Peter Sage

Our neighbor across the street had a similar problem. When another neighbor walked his dog he would let it do it's business on her front lawn. One day she scooped and bagged the "evidence" and followed him home, waited a few minutes and then knocked on the door. When he answered she handed him the bag and told him next time she won't be so polite.

I feel for you as I dealt with that living in the city. Try to talk with the neighbors first, and if that is unsuccessful, you have many effective suggestions above.

Now I live in the woods in the mountains and every creature from deer and skunk to black bears poop in my yard. But that's a different problem.:7

There's a guy who lives behind my neighbors, who has a fenced-in backyard, but opens the gate to let his dog out so he (the dog!) can poop in other people's yard! I caught the dog in my yard one day, and as I approached, he growled at me! Then, after he was done pooping, he grabbed a 1/2 brick that was there (from a building that used to be there long ago) and went back home.

I was livid, but didn't know what to do (and saw the (@#@ owner IN THE BACKYARD!).

If I'd thought of it, I would have bagged the poo and taken it to him, mentioning that it is illegal to let a dog run around not under control.

I also thought of taking pictures as proof (without them, it's only my word vs. his).

What your neighbors are doing IS illegal in most towns. Next time it happens, see if you can get some photos. Then find the law concerning the situation, photocopy it, and deliver the poo, the photo and the clipping to your neighbors, telling them it's just a heads up.

You can also buy some dog repellant spray (or some devices that spray citronella---harmless but irritating--when an animal comes too close). But you shouldn't have to put any expense into putting an end to this situation.

If you don't let them know that the dog is pooping on your property and that you mind, you can't really blame your new neighbors. Now, after you tell them and it continues, that's another story.

You may be getting yourselves all worked up over nothing at this point. Your new neightbors may try to stop the pooping as soon as you talk to them.

You still seem angry about them not contacting you about your welcome gift. If they had thanked you and talked to you...I bet you wouldn't be as angry about the poop situation.

I live in Florida and most of our counties have leash laws. Does yours? Another option is to build a fence around your property to keep other animals out. That's what we do.

Just go talk to them.

I have the same problem. How have I fixed it? I bought a smaller dog and she goes over there and poops! LOL! I'm just kidding. I haven't fixed it. I have mentioned it, my dh has mentioned it, they have said that they will do whatever they can to keep their dogs out of our yard. Yet, I still find the poops. I know that they don't belong to my dogs, because my dogs only have 1 area that they go in. The rest of my yard though is open terratory for the other dogs.
One of my neighbors took this other neighbors poop and put it all on their front steps. Maybe not the best idea, but it got his point across.
I'm sure that the people are aware that their dog is doig this. I would mention that you are not ok with it. Don't threaten them, just say that you would like it if they could try to keep their dog on a leash. See how that goes. Then maybe take further steps from there if it doesn't stop.

Irresponsible dog owners drive me crazy!

Is there a leash law in your state? If so, neighbor is breaking the law if his/her dogs go off their property without a leash.

I would first try talking to them. If that doesn't work. I'd call Animal Control myself.

Here's an idea. LOL!

Maybe you could try taking over another "Welcoming gift". A POOPER SCOOPER (full of coarse)....That might make them notice the lack of thanking you for the first gift AND the lack of concideration on the obnoxious pooping.}(

Seriously, I'd just go over and say, "Hey, If you wouldn't mind, can you please keep your dog from pooping on my lawn? I'm not sure if you were aware of it, but I've stepped in it a couple of times and thought I'd bring it to your attention. And then add in... Oh! and did you recieve my welcoming gift? :p }(

I had a friend who got so sick of the neighborhood teenagers hanging out in front of his yard and leaving soda cans, candy wrappers, etc, that he installed a motion sensing sprinkler system. Whenever said teens started hanging out, the sprinklers would go off. (yes, this is after him calmly asking them to move their congegration elsewhere). Problem solved. I would think this would work with dogs as well. It would be a non-confrontational, but expensive solution... Just a thought.

Have any of you seen Me, Myself, and Irene? Those of you who haved probably know what I am thinking.... LOL!

>collect all the dog poop in your yard and "return" it to them each week. Then do it.

I actually did this. I scooped them up and deposited to their owner's front yard.:7
