LAST EDITED ON Jan-16-02 AT 10:41PM (Est)[p]Boy I sure need some MOTIVATION... new job (in December) - big project - lots of hours -not sure what it is but I just don't have that MOTIVATION...

After quite a while of thinking about it TONIGHT - I finally order S&H, Power Hour, Circuit Max, Body Max, and Interval Max... hope this does the trick.

I'm also thinking of joining a gym - we have a WONDERFUL one in the office park where I work - it may be a nice change of pace - workout wise and new folks!

Sure hope these tapes get me out of this phase...

Anyone have any tricks on getting the motivation back ?

Hi Robyn!

I think your tape choices are all GREAT!! I'm sure they will do the trick! You picked some workers! Have fun when they arrive and hope your slump goes away real quick.

Hi Robyn:

Greetings from Toronto!

Re motivation, you're going to gasp at this, but I dislike working out (are you gasping yet?). Most days, I'd just rather stay in bed (I work out, mostly to Cathe, at 5:30 a.m. 5 days per week (and on Sundays in late morning). That means I actually get out of bed at approx. 4:15 a.m. so I can have my coffee, do some chores, and basically "wake up").

Each day as I pull on my running shoes, I say to myself "You know, you don't have to do this. You can just crawl back in bed with your three fluffy and warm cats and have a snuggle in". But I know that the day will not be complete if I don't work out -- I will not have that sense of satisfaction, achievement and pride that carries me throughout the day -- I call it "earning the day". And I am totally addicted that "I did it!" feeling. And that's why I've kept working out over the last 3 or 4 years.

So I always promise myself that I'll do at least 15 minutes of a tape and if I still don't feel like working out, that'll be it. Starting is always the hardest part for me. Usually, if I can get past the warm-up I will complete the entire tape. By half-way, I working my derriere off and am actually enjoying myself (in some perverted way).

Anyways, maybe that 15 minutes minimum is the key to motivate you. And then there's my favorite expression "Just do it!" (Nike).

Good luck and I hope you enjoy your new tapes!

Patricia

Robyn, think of all the things you have scheduled into your life that cannot be ignored. Now make exercise one of those things! It keeps you youthful, strong and lean in addition to desressing and reducing risks for disease. It bolsters self-confidence! It's an absolute essential. Write an exercise time on your calendar every day and keep that date. It's the most worthwhile thing you can do for your mind and your body!

RE: Motivation loves company . . .

I suggest you start participating in the weekly check-ins on the Open Discussion Cathe forum - great way to stay connected to your fellow / fella fitness compadres and motivate EACH OTHER!

Also, maybe hook up with a living breathing deeply workout buddy closer to home?

Annette

I have also been having some motivational trouble. I usually just get stuck in a rut and take a week or 2 off. Once you get a routine going, it usually just becomes a part of you and you'll feel weird if you skip it all the time. But everyone gets sick of working out every once in awhile.

Just get back to it- it's great that you're getting some new fresh videos. I just joined a gym for a change because even though Cathe's awesome, videos can get boring. You have a lot of options for a rotation w/ all of those videos though! Maybe do a rotation w/ the videos for awhile, then join the gym for a bit for another rotation.
Good Luck

Patricia, I just LOVED youre post. You described exactly how I feel. I have been trying to get my husband to exercise for awhile, and he said to me the other day "Yeah, it's easy for you, you LOVE working out!" My mouth dropped open and I responded."Dont think for one second that I enjoy it. Most days it sucks and I would give anything not to have to do it BUT I LOVE what it does for me, how it makes me feel afterwards and how I now have muscles where there once was flab, thats why the call it a WORKOUT and not a PLAY out!!" He just said "oh" and walked away. Judy

I have been trying
>to get my husband to

>you, you LOVE working out!"

Ack!! Doesn't this drive you crazy? My husband says the same thing. I just cannot convince him that I don't LOVE working out and look forward to it. Not to say that I don't sometimes, but for the most part, it is still something I feel I "have" to do. I love what it does for me, but still have to make myself do it most of the time.

Hey Judy!

Thanks for your post! Nice to know I'm not alone! LOVE your post too!

Thing is, I consider working out to be my second job. And it is, in many ways, harder than my "real" one. But after it's done, I can truthfully say "If I can make it here, I'll make it anywhere. Come on, come on, throw somethin', anythin' at me -- I can take it!" (Now, if I could just get my 15-lb cat to get off my face when I do ab work, my life would be complete. You'd think with all the strength work I do, I could throw my cat clear across the room with relative ease --- errr, just kiddin', I love Beauregard).

Have a nice evening!

Patricia (Catricia)

P.S. It's also nice coming into the office in the mornings all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, while every one else is yawning and talking in monosyllables.

Patricia!

(Now, if
>I could just get my
>15-lb cat to get off
>my face when I do
>ab work, my life would
>be complete

This cracks me up! My little beagle Buddy licks my face when I'm doing abs. He thinks that because I'm lying on the floor, it must be time to play :)

You could always sign up for a race or walk to get motivated. Something like a local 5K, or the Avon 3-day Walk... something that becomes an event you are training for. I run a few races a year and when I'm in training mode, I have no motivation problems. You could register with a friend, that's always lots of fun, then you could train together

thanks everyone!

great ideas... hmmmI may try the morning idea --- at least for awhile since the evenings havent been working - I try to do it with my 15 year old but our schedules have been tough

I think the gym may be nice change too....

good idea about scheduling it into the day....

may join the check in....

and yep I cant wait til the tapes come - I love cardio kicks and ctx but will be nice to have some new ones...

RE: Patricia!

My kids do exactly the same thing...step up (shoo one out from behind me)...step down (lift one up off my step)...lay down for abs (get them off my belly)...

This is why I work out at 0430!!! Katie

RE: Katie and Marnie!

Strange thing is, when I was a wee baby, my Mom used to put me in a baby carriage, wrap me up in a fake bearskin blanket, and leave me on the front porch to sleep the afternoon away. This was in Northern Ontario (picture Siberia if you will) in the dead of winter when the temperature would drop to, say 20 degrees below. My Mom had done this with my three older sisters when they were babes as well, and none of them had expired (darn it, I always wanted to be an only child!) Flash to the present: At this point in my Mother's story, I asked in amazement, "Mom, weren't you afraid we'd be kidnapped?" Her response, "Who'd want you? Everybody already had more kids than they could handle in those days!" (We're talking 46 years ago)

At this point, you're probably wondering where this long-winded story is leading. Well, one day, it started to blizzard out and my Mom decided to bring me in. To her horror, she found a big grey cat sitting on my face, probably attracted by my warmth (or maybe it thought the fake bearskin rug was its mother). Luckily, I wasn't smothered, but Mom told me I was looking a bit blue. (Hmmm - 20 below -- great blizzard -- cat sucking up my oxygen. Who wouldn't be blue?)

Makes me kinda wonder if my big, grey 15-lb cat isn't a reincarnation of that Killer Cat.

I wonder, too, if Cathe is not trying to kill me over all again with her killer ab segments -- afterall, the first three letters of her name are CAT!!!

Oh my, I just realized how far off I've strayed from the original "Motivated" question. Sorry Robyn -- you go, girl!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Catricia (errr Patricia)

Ha!

That is too funny "Catricia"!! What a hoot! We always left our doors unlocked & keys in the cars. (I'm 49 and from a family of four kids) Thanks for the good laugh!:7

RE: Katie and Marnie!

Catricia, What a great story!!! Hysterical!! You have a knack for writing. Too funny. But the WEIRDEST thing, is as I am reading your post, my cat jumped up on my lap and she NEVER does that while Im on the computer!! Ok, she just bit me and jumped down. Now, when I workout she is nowhere to be found, my 4 year old son is always there. He too, loves to sit on my stomach as I do my ab routine AND when Im doing planks he loves to crawl underneath me, like I am London Bridge. And theres me, my arms a shakin' clenching my teeth and telling him to go quick as London bridge is ready to fall down!! Judy
