Hello Cathe or anyone who might want to chime in.

This is my first post and I'm pretty new to Cathe workouts. Just to give you some history on me, always struggled with my weight and I have lost over a 100 pounds few times in my life. The last time was about 10 years ago when my son turn three and I had gained a lot of weight from my pregnancy (100 lbs). Anyway, fast forward....my son is 14 and my daughter turned 3 years old yesterday. I gained a lot of weight her also and now I'm 42 years old struggling to get this weight off of me.

I'm an ex firmie so I'm no stranger to exercise and I actually love exercising and having a active life style. That is until I had my daughter, my life change dramatically. Stayed home for two years, 1 year and now I'm home again running my own business.

I just recently starting working out every morning (I have to do it in the morning or it won't get done), 5 days a week (trying to get to six).

I've been working out now for about two months with cathe and doing some cardio too (hate most cardio). I love to run, at least I use to but I'm way to heavy and my knees are bad from carrying so much weight.

Again, I'm 42 years old, 5'8 and about 240 pounds. I can't tell that I'm coming down but I want it gone tomorrow.

Any help and encouragement for me would be greatly appreciated.

I want be a hot mom and wife and I want to be healthy so that I can pass on good habits to my daughter.

Sorry for rambling.

Stacey:(

Welcome. I'm new too. :)

I'm also a mom and an ex-firmie who needs to work out in the AM. The rest of my day is taken over by the family. My kids are 12 (soon to be 13!) and 9.

You sound like you're on your way and very determined. Hang out here for inspiration and a few laughs. I use the Search function a ton whenever I have a question, and the forum veterans here are very helpful. It's like I'm learning to eat and exercise properly all over again. Be patient with yourself and have faith ~ the weight will come off.

What Cathe workouts do you have so far? I started with Pyramid Upper/Lower Body and Kick, Punch, Crunch.

Purchase suggestions, especially in view of your time needs:

Cross Train Express (CTX) series: 6 complete 1-hour workouts, 5 with cardio and single-muscle-group upper body training and the 6th with lower body focus; 4 of these 6 also have ab / core workouts as well. If you do just one each day, by the end of the 6th day you'll have trained all the major muscle groups and gotten in your cardio (varied formats: step; step-kickbox; kickbox; and hi/lo).

Timesaver DVD (from the BodyBlast series): compilations of cardio and muscle training footage from all of the workouts in the Body Blast series, organized into 5 complete workouts; these five also include cardio and targeted muscle group training. These workouts are also an hour or less; and

The new 4-Day Split (4DS): four workouts of approximately one hour each; cardio and muscle training in each workout, so that by the end of the series you'll have hit all of the major muscle groups once. The choreography on the step routines is fairly complex, so this one might be more of a decision for you.

Encouragement: no matter what your current fitness level and time demands, there are products and rotations here that will be beneficial for you. Keep checking in here.

Advice: learn to like cardio. And learn to like, or at least function well, in several cardio formats. Although strength training is beneficial in overall body composition management as well as functional fitness, you do need cardio for . . . well, cardiovascular health as well as for it's excess storage-fat burning benefits.

Welcome!

Hang in there! All I can say is 7 years ago I made a decision to win my battle with weight. I started seeing a nutrionist (a huge positive!) and owned up to my mistakes with food. I had always been active, but it was never consistant....fast forward to today and I am an ACE Trainer, have kept off my 20lbs and exercise is a part of most everyday!

My best advice...get up and exercise before the rest of your family gets out of bed! My kids are 16, 15, and 12 and to this day if I don't exercise first thing in the am (5-6am) then it doesn't get done!!!

Good luck

Hi Stacey and welcome to the forums! I can empathize with you on the cardio -- I hate it too, but alas, we must do it. ;)

You've been given some great suggestions so far. Another option would be to start out with Cathe's Official Beginner Rotation. This has some of her easiest cardio routines and will get you used to her style of choreography, and the workouts aren't terribly long. If you're able to lift heavier weights you can always modify, but this will at least give you some good cardio options that are a little less taxing to start with. Here's a link to the beginner rotation, and there's also an intermediate rotation if this one looks too easy:

Hi Stacy, I just had to jump in and say hello. The gals above have some great suggestions. Even if I don't post very often I always check in on Cathe's forum for daily inspiration and motivation. It helps break the Mom isolation for me and I get great workout rotations that even if I can't follow them to the letter, they give me a structure to hang on to.
