Need motivation..

OK so I've been very inconsistent with my workouts because of work stress and medical problem and the stress caused by worrying about them. My diet has really been suffering due to the same reasons. I work 2 jobs and when I am home and have time to workout I just don't feel up to it. I'm having trouble getting up early enough to fit in a workout in the morning. I need some motivation to get my butt out of bed and in the gym in the morning. Also need to STOP SNACKING. I've been doing way too much of that lately. Any suggestions on either problem? Thanks guys!

Lauren

I have no great suggestions as I have been going back and forth myself with same issues. I was consistent for over 6 years and this past year threw me to the dogs but . . . maybe you can try incooperating one new thing a week that you enjoy and/or know will be good for you. Start off with drinking all your water. Can you take a yoga class at lunch? Not the best workouts but at least you are being active?

Mostly wrote this to give you hugs b/c i understand and haven't found that magic formula to wake myself out of this bubble either but sooner or later it will have to burst.

No real answers here either but I spent most of the summer struggling with eating {too much} and exercising {not enough}. I finally snapped out of it about three weeks or so ago. But I wanted you to know you aren't struggling alone.

I'm a list maker and what helped me is starting a schedule for each day and being able to mark things off as completed. This helped organize me and tell me what I have to do today. Not that I didn't really 'know' before I made the schedule but somehow marking things off helps, and I was able to split some larger jobs up into several days which helped motivate me to actually do them. At the very least, I'm exercising again. Eating, I'm still working on.

I agree with Eriniski that trying to incorperate one thing each day or week is a good place to start. Getting myself started is sometimes the hardest part, but once I start {cleaning, exercising, raking, weeding whatever} I find I can stick with it much longer than I had thought. Start with small goals and I think you will surprise yourself by how much you will acomplish. HTH.

I just posted this something similar to this last week. I had seen a picture of myself and was absolutely horrified. I had injuries and after the injuries got better I had lost my motivation.

I got some great feedback. What was consistent in the feedback was start small with something I liked. So the first morning was only 20 minutes, the next day I added 5 more minutes, and the next, etc.

Just after this week, I feel so much better. Not any big changes, but most importantly - my mindset is back. I feel so much better mentally and that's what I needed most.

Today I actually did a whole Cathe workout - Cardio & Weights. I couldn't keep up with the abs as she does them, and my heartrate was definitely up in the zone with this intermediate workout but I did all of it!

So I will give you the same message that was given me. Don't beat yourself up, accept where you are in your fitness journey, get back into working out, slowly with workouts you love and it will come back!!

Yep, . . . remember Rome was not built in a day. Every little bit counts, . . .park your car farther, cut out that extra latte, . . . .small baby steps, . . .when you start to see results then it truly becomes addictive. Just ask the gals who run marathons here. You can and you will. Good luck. Hang in there.

This might sound goofy, but try watching a few of the DVD previews. I swear...whenever I preview a Cathe DVD, I'm instantly motivated.

I can totally related - I have NO motivation lately and I'm eating horribly (gained 5 lbs this month) - especially because my workouts are limited to lower body workouts, abs/core and cardio (but no kickbox yet) since my shoulder surgery. I'm TRYING to get in some exercise every day - but I miss my CATHE workouts. I've been doing L&G and GS Legs (using db in place of bb) - but I miss my step and kickbox workouts and all the other workouts too... so I do watch them on FitTV when I'm home and check out the clips too ... it helps to motivate me.

This board is great because it reminds us that WE ARE NOT ALONE! Everyone loses the "fever" at one time or another ...

Thanks to all that post here with hugs and encouragement... I've been lurking lately as I don't feel I have much to share since I'm not "in the groove"

Getting a new fitness toy works for me every time. I have this experience often because we both move and travel often (7th house in 7 years!). Every time my schedule is disrupted, workouts are the first to go.

I usually get myself under control by buying a new type of dvd or fitness item (or maybe just a great outfit). I just need to look forward to the first workout, the rest takes care of itself.

You need a present!

Debbie, so glad to hear that you are feeling better and that you are getting back in the game. WTG!!!:):)

Lauren,i can completely relate to you!!! My workouts and diet has suffered for about three months now:(. I just lost my since of consistency and im not saying "no" to sweets and junk food. My weight hasn't suffered too much(nothing a couple of days wouldn't fix) but dang,I wish I could get back to it! Its so frustrating:mad:.

I guess im writting this to let you know that your not alone...im right there with ya! Will snap out of it soon!!!!

Your best bet...is to just do it! Don't think about it and don't think about how you don't want to workout...just put on your gear and get going.
I read something the other day, "you will never regret working out but you will regret not working out" and thats sooo true! If I don't workout then it plays on my mind all day so its just as well that I do it cause if I don't, Im not going to get peace of mind!
Snacking is usually my problem as well. Its never my meals. If the scale goes up, its b/c I was eating in between meals when I wasn't even hungry.
Its always fun to start fresh on a Mon!

Lori:)

i get like this sometimes too. what i do to motivate myself is i think of the patients i work with. i'm a physical therapy student doing an internship right now in the ICU. It takes everything these patients have just to sit on the edge of the bed and some cannot even do that. I have also lost some of my patients due to complications. So when i get unmotivated I think of them and i say, i'm so lucky to be able to workout and eat healthy through my mouth and not a feeding tube. These thoughts always get me going.

Thanks so much for your support everyone! I will try some of the tips you've given me. Atleast both my jobs have my on my feet most of the day (stylist and server)... atleast its something lol

Lori I think I might just take your advise and start fresh on monday. I'm going to spend today planning my week and seeing where I can fit workouts into my busy schedule. I know what its gonna come down to... I gotta get my butt out of bed earlier... s**t lol.
