Need help with a stove

My oven is set to die. Its 21 years old and not functioning well. I have done everything I can to recresuscitate it, but to no avail. Alas, I need to find an electric stove with a smooth top.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi, Jackie! We're planning to build a new house later this year, and I've made a list of the appliances I hope to buy, based on Consumer Reports research. The range I want is the Maytag Gemini, with double ovens and a smooth top. I like the idea of two ovens. The comments I wrote in my notes from the CR report are "very good baking" and "no discernible downsides." All that said, I haven't seen one in person yet or, obviously, used one!

I also jotted down the Kenmore 9800[3], also a double oven, which they said has "very good high-heat cooktop/baking/oven capacity," and "no weakneses in our tests." Its retail price is $1850, as opposed to $1400 for the Gemini.

I know there are tons of choices out there. Maybe someone who has made a recent purchase will have some info, too!

Good luck,
Allison

I have a Maytag Gemini and I love it. The double oven is great. I mostly use the small one and love that it doesn't heat up the house as much. The only downside I could see is if you make a really big turkey at Thanksgiving it might not fit but the lower bigger oven has always been big enough for me.

I also have a Maytag Gemini and LOVE it!!
I highly recommend it! 2 ovens, the smaller one doubles as a toaster oven, and if you want you can even up grade the ovens to convection!!

This is funny...I'm looking at the GE Profile smoothtop with the double ovens like the Gemini. I love the idea of that smaller oven.

Jackie - Check out the appliance forum over at GardenWeb. http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/appl/

There's bound to be someone there who's had experience with any range your looking at.

Gayle,

I just got the GE Profile, smoothtop, double oven about a month ago. I LOVE it !!!!!!!

I love using the smaller oven for a casserole or smaller thing.......and have used top & bottom at the same time and baked cookies in NO time with cookie sheets on every rack !
I think it will make cooking and baking during the holidays a lot easier too.

I love the 5 burners on the top, with the warming burner. I used it tonight to keep spaghetti sauce warm without it boiling and spitting sauce all over.

It's awesome.
