need help on Cathe vids once you've mastered the basics

Hi everyone!

I have recently rescued my sister from the Firm by gifting her on her birthday with Body Fusion and the Basic Step DVD. She is hooked (of course) and wondering how to move up. She saw me doing MIC one day during Christmas and was frightened! Since I started Cathe with MIC and have been working out for years (she hasn't), I can't figure out what to tell her - I have found most of Cathe's choreography not too frustrating and the tough power moves invigorating rather than scary. Any advice would be appreciated - I want to keep her hooked on Cathe!

I think the CTX workouts are the least intimidating and the least intense of Cathe's workouts. There is also a rotation automatically built into them. They have a little bit of everything in them step, kickbox, circiut and great upper and lower body workouts. These sound perfect for your sister.

CTX is a good idea, or the Classics Vol. 1 DVD with Step Heat, Step Jam and Step Max. The outfits and chatter are dated but the workouts are fun and Cathe introduces a lot of moves and patterns that show up in her later routines.

What I would tell her is to do only what she can do. For example: My first Cathe workout was Step Blast off of FitTV. I'll be honest and tell you that the first few times I did this workout, I only got through the warmup and part of combo one. I was worried that I'd never get the whole thing down, but I kept plugging away at it, and before long, I was getting through the warmup and combo one, then I was able to get through the warmup, combo one, and combo two...and a few months later, I finally got through the whole thing.

So, tell her to break each workout down and only do one segment each day. You have to learn to walk before you can run, and Cathe is no exception to that rule. Her choreography is more complicated, but once you get down the basic moves and get used to her cuing, learning one of her other workouts is much easier. I mean, look at me: I thought I'd never learn and get through Step Blast, but now I'm getting the footwork on such workouts as Lowmax and Imax 2 on the first or second try.

That's a great thing you're doing for your sister. I can understand how she can easily get hooked to Cathe's basic workouts.

I started with Cardio Hits and the PS series. I'd been working out before that, however, so the moves in Cardio Hits weren't that hard for me to follow. I hear the workouts in the Classics DVD are easier to follow than those in Cardio Hits. I'd also recommend a strength workout like PS or Pyramids or MIS, which are pretty straightforward and need only a bunch of dumbbells (a barbell can come later) and a club step.

This is an old post but what the heck! Back when I was ordering HSTA, I received Body Fusion by mistake. I offered to send it back but SNM told me to just keep it. I did get my original order. To tell you the truth, I wasn't going to even try it if it was basic level. So I gave it to a coworker at work that is very overweight but serious about getting into shape. SHe loved it.

Since, she's tried my RS, BC, ME, C&W and CTX. She liked some of the CTX (my recommendation) but she really loved C&W. She said that was a good level for her to be in but she also thoroughly enjoyed the work out & has since ordered it.
