My Witch dress

I won this second hand dress on ebay and want to wear it as a witches costume.
Any ideas how I pull this together? Suggestions on make-up and accessories?
Should I dare shred the bottom of this dress? Would you?

My hairdresser suggested I tease my hair really big and tie thin black ribbons throughout.

Oh, what a cool dress! I wouldn't shred the bottom of it since I'd be afraid to ruin it!

If you did some big, teased hair and some cool makeup, you'd look great in it!

Wow...that's actually kind of fabulous. It's very Grace Kelly in "Rear Window", except the skirt is black.

Can you do some non-traditional witching? Like a sort of evil twin of Glinda-the-Good thing? You DEFINITELY need some striped stockings. And a wand with a skull on it.

Oh I wouldn't shred the dress!! It's actually really pretty! Could you paint your skin or teeth green? And of course you MUST have a big ugly mole somewhere. LOL!

What a goergous dress!!! I'm sure whatever you do, you will look smashing!!! Be sure to post pictures of you all decked out for Halloween!!! What fun!

DO NOT SHRED!!!!!!! OMG that is so pretty! I think some green makeup, a strategically placed wart, a pointy hat & some red & white striped socks should do it.

Then you can recycle it for NYE. ;)

It is a beautiful dress, but if you won't wear it again, I don't see why not. If you can wear it again, then please don't ruin it just for Halloween.

Have fun, I love Halloween parties.

Is my meez hairdo about what you want to do with yours? Kinda, sorta?

Ok, green skin it is:) Last time I dyed my skin green was in HS., with food coloring! It took a few days to fully come off:eek:

I wonder if there are better skin dyes they do not rub off like that wax make-up?

I was thinking I would add some long black gloves.

Janie, your meez's hair is exactly what I was thinking!
It would be a shame to ruin the dress so I won't shred it. It's a Neiman Marcus dress that cost less than a packaged witch costume. I'm very pleased with my find.:) I love second hand clothes!!:D:D:D

Lisa, I LOVE the Grace Kelly black and white dress. That would be a gorgeous Christmas gown.

Oh my how much did you get it for???? I love to sew and let me tell you something that looks like a 8 pannel bodice. Those are really hard to sew. It also looks like there are several layers of tulle too. Also extremely difficult to sew without adding bulk. Couldn't you use it as a sort of gothic vampire cosutume instead. Get a really cool satin velvet cape lined with red and some really neat vampire teeth? Try to make your skin look super pale, . . . oh the possibilities of that dress are endless. Beautiful find.

You need elbow length gloves. I've seen some that are fingerless and have a spider web pattern to them in the Halloween stores. And a witch hat with feather trim around the brim. And a broom with black feathers instead of bristles.

Nan

I wouldn't shred the skirt. keep it intact, hen the dress has more potential uses in the future. But I would stick on some little applique thingies, moons, stars, pumpkins, etc, anything thematic, that you can take off again at the end of the evening. A few stitches in each one would be enough to hold them and then they would be easily removed afterwards, leaving the dress available for reinvention for another year.

I would drape a spangly shawl around my shoulders to add glitter and shine to the basic black and I would definitely go to town on hair and dramatic make-up.

Not all witches need warts!

Thank you all for all the wonderful suggestions!!!

I'm going to look for some rhinestone skull pins to pull up the front so my striped stockings show. It will be easier for me to walk in the dress with the front bustled up.

I'm thinking about pale skin with make-up similar to Martha Stewart

Love that dress

I love love love that dress!!!!! It looks a little bit like my wedding dress in black. It is gorgeous. Instead of the green witch look did you possibly want to go with an evil/devil bride look, with a black veil and skulls or the ribbons and skulls then you could carry black roses (I just found some awesome ones with black glitter at wal mart), black gloves, etc. You would look stunning.

No Shred!

someone mentioned green makeup . . but rather than the dark green halloween make up you see this time of year in the stores I would buy some green eyeshadow and a big brush and layer that on. I just bought one by Physicians formula - it has a light green and a dark green and is a big palatte so to speak. That would work perfectly. Eyes- PURPLE and black and wing it out. LIPS - I'd say red but if it not a blue red it will yellow your teeth (maybe that is not a bad thing for Halloween). Witches are not dead so to speak so that would not be the look you are going for.

Did anyone talk shoes?? I would get some cheapo black satins and dress them up with a spider and some rhinestones.

Jewelry - anything Gothic.

Sorry to be so long winded. I have done makeup for my nieces and nephews for several years and was a theater major.

Those pic's

posted above are actually MARTHA STEWART from her Halloween issue mag a couple years back. Amazing what makeup can do.
